Well, MVP is most valuable player, so it seems to me like it should be something close to your first option. Who had the biggest impact on their team.

And I'm not just saying that because it would make elliot a lock.
That's kind of a shit definition though. Having a good backup would effectively make you unqualified for MVP?

The fact that Belichick and Brady do it during this free agency and salary cap era, put them leaps and bound ahead of Walsh/Montana.

This is the 4th different "team" Brady has taken to the Super Bowl. It's not like the Steelers, 49'ers or Cowboys who had one run. The Pats are doing this with roster turnover, it's unreal.
Yep.

Oh right, cheating.

So no*******.

Speaking of the devil.

Belichick might have won more games, but Walsh's offense revolutionized football and the guys from his coaching tree went on to win 5 more super bowls running variations on it. The Atlanta Falcons will be running it on Sunday. I don't know if Belichick has actually innovated anything or has any legacy aside from winning a lot of games with Brady.

So his assistants were great.

Part of why they can do it is Brady is willing to take much less than market value so that the team can pick up better players

No doubt about it, which makes him even more of a winner.

Montana was like 22-0 td/int ratio in Super Bowls, I dont think anyone will ever touch his legacy

makes him smart- he is a millionaire many many times over.

if he is ok with making ~8 million less than he COULD demand on the market. that means the team can spend that 8 million on....other players- it is how they got hogan, lewis, blount, edelman, amendola, (leaving mitchell out- rookie) Long, etc...

a team with a lot of good players - should - be better than a team with a few great players. it is no big deal though.

genjiro -montana was 11td-0int in 4 superbowls. brady in 6 is 13td to 4int....still very good.

Possibly the only thing I really like about Brady. Well, actually his press conferences are pretty good too, he does seem like a nice enough dude. I wouldn't have a beer summit with the guy though because at some point I'd probably get drunk and bash the mug across his face.

If you're backup is really that close to you, then you're probably nothing special. I mean seriously, how often is it happening that you have an elite player backing up another elite player? Prescott/Romo this year is the only example that comes immediately to mind. And in that case, yeah I'd say prescott doesn't deserve the MVP trophy. Rookie of the Year maybe, but not league MVP.

I long for the good ole days when a linebacker, lineman, or placekicker would be sprinkled in every once in a while.

1982 Mark Moseley Washington Redskins Placekicker

Yeah, a placekicker. This was the AP MVP. Today the AP chooses the official NFL MVP, I don't know if the NFL had an official one back in 82 though. The other groups who picked an MVP in 82 all seemed to pick Dan Fouts.

That makes sense. Kinda like how baseball has the Cy Young award and then the MVP, which is everyone but a pitcher. I remember there being talk of a pitcher winning MVP a few years back and people were going apeshit.
