Alignment has approved. Don't like Detroit coming East. That's my only gripe.
It's an easy fix too. Move Colorado to the West (A), and move Detroit to the central (B).

Watching Pens fans and Bruins fans go at it makes our shitty season better somehow. Of course we'll forget we should be tanking tonight since Ovechkin loves to beat Miller.

Detroit doesn't want to be in the west.
Exactly this. PST times for playoff matchups is patently unfair to Detroit players. Fans don't want PST times for games either. I happen to be a CST timezone fan, so I don't care much.

Only thing about realignment that has me irked is the whole 14 vs 16 teams and playoff chances. Even if two expansion franchises happen (can they with state of NHL?) they will be doormats of the West for years making the equalizing out of the two sides not even matter...

All that aside, 9-0-0 for the Penguins in March now. 5 of them over current playoff teams. Defense only giving up 1 goal a game over the last 5. Top 2 point scorers in the league, 2 of the top 3 goal scorers, top 2 PP goal scorers, top scoring D man, and winningest goalie.

Without Malkin lately.

The fact I typed that out means there will be some sort of horrible collision involving Crosby, Kunitz, Neal, and Fleury on Tuesday vs. the Caps.
Grimm is so excited about those 9 games. Hawks have been doing all of that all season long

4-1 lead to 4-3...we can still blow this in regulation to help draft position.

Steve Ott, complete bitch. I'm sure if Ribs had been the other guy he would have dropped the mitts much like Marchand yesterday.

Araysar so excited about Hawks season... Detroit been doing it for 21 straight seasons. Sucking and getting some top draft picks helps rebuilding. Try getting low round picks for 20 years and maintaining excellence.

Hawks won the cup 3 years ago, lost half the team to salary cap, got nothing in the way of draft picks and 3 years later still put together one of the greatest NHL team ever

That's what your mom said about...the....wait I had something...
Well, your mom certainly had something last night.

And, you see, by something I mean me. So...yeah. Your mom.

I can't figure out Toronto this year. Are they actually going to make the playoffs?

Also, the South East is just an awful division. Winnipeg in the lead, with a shaky-at-best team is kind of a farce, isn't it?

I feel like Carolina might be a decent team if Ward was healthy, but even so you're right that the Southeast is shit. Pretty sad we aren't somehow in contention to win it. Managed to beat Buffalo cause we can't even tank right. Only joy I get each game now is watching Karl Alzner be a damn stud on D no matter which AHL D man they pair him with.

They haven't actually won anything yet. Again, no one gives a fuck about the regular season in the NHL. And also, they "lost half the team to salary cap" not because of the actual cap, but because their GM shit the bed and didn't qualify three RFA's by the deadline, resulting in them becoming UFA's and Chicago having to overpay them to keep them.

Not sure what you mean. The NHL is in a pretty decent state right now, as far as I know. The majority of the teams are profitable, and the ones that aren't directly profitable have stable ownership who are likely making bank off the sweetheart arena deals that owning a hockey team gets them access to with concerts and the like. The only team that is a problem is Phoenix. The NHL and 30 existing teams are all eager as fuck to get their mitts on a couple 200+ million expansion fees. It'll happen in the next 2-3 years, I would imagine. They're committed to keeping Phoenix where it is, and Quebec will get a team as well. The only question is who the other expansion team goes to, and that looks like Seattle at this point.

I'd be more worried about the talent pool supporting 2 more franchises, not the cities.

I won't disagree that the southeast is pretty bad. Canes have the talent to win that division and the goaltending has been decent despite Ward going down. Their pp is garbage right now and they still are not playing consistent for all 3 periods. Still I like their chances for the playoffs, ward is scheduled to come back around that time.
