Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future are really well done books by Zahn. I don't think they're quite as popular as the Thrawn trilogy.

The X-Wing series of books was probably my favorite when I was growing up. Each one of those books could make for an awesome movie.

I never really read any Star Wars books other than Shadows of the Empire, still trying to get around to Thrawn books. Call it cheating but I picked up]Star Wars: The New Essential Chronology, It gives a good timeline off all the EU up to the end of the Yuuzhan Vong stuff. It was published almost ten years ago so it's missing the newer stuff but still gives a good idea of what happens before and after the movies.

Sort of like what was done with the prequels, where their target demographic age was 9? Young reader to me seems a cop out for writing crappy books.

I guess if one is a bad writer, then getting a fancy Star Wars cover and selling 'young reader' crappy novels is about the best chance one has for selling a lot of books.

I thought the first Kevin J Anderson trilogy was good... apparently they are called the Jedi Academy trilogy. But it's Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, and Champions of the Force.

Exar Kun was such a badass.
