Unfortunately acting chops aren'tnecessarilyall you need to play certain parts. In this case, if he's a fully visible villain, I just can't take him seriously looking that fucking goofy. If he's masked 100% of the time like Vader, then ok it can probably work.

But damn, that's a goofy looking dude.

He was a marine in real life. Is that imperial enough for you? He's great in girls he's mostly facial blankness and with poignant two-liners. Sounds like an awesome vader-esque villain to me. As long as they don't want him to do fucking kung fu. Yoda battle was great and all, but I hope it's more Vader not-moving-while-I-force-throw-shit-at-you fighting than hopping around Ray Park Darth Maul style.

I don't know a lot about the EU and I'm sure Luke has had dark side moments, but why not make the bad guy Luke? Have something happen that flips him out and turn to the dark side. Like worse than the emperor level of evil. The trilogy can then focus on what he preached in the original trilogy that no matter how far you fall its never too late to return to the light. Hell make it his son or daughter that never gives up on him like he did for Vader, but the twist at the end is the kid sacrifices them self for Luke much like Vader did. Guy they already cast can be the overachieving apprentice that Luke ultimately must defeat at the end.

That's kind of what happens with EU. It isn't Luke that has to defeat the new Darth though. Luke is the new Yoda who can't take up the fight himself.

Luke was tempted a few times, but mostly near the beginning of the new republic. Once he becomes established in his role he gets tempted by a lot of things, but not the darkside per say.

Despite the often poor writers handed the job of giving life to the EU, there was some good stories and characters in there. Kind of a shame.
