That Jedi kung-fu hustle cartoon was stupid. That is the problem with the entire prequel universe: Lucas couldn't decide if the Jedi were omniscient super-powered demigods, or monks with a flashy sword that can be killed by a few brainwashed clone troopers. It is the same reason I couldn't play Force Unleashed, it just brought Jedi to full retard strength level.

Jedi in everything are pretty stupidly powerful. Being able to see into the future to parry shots before they happen is strong, not to mention the god-level power of lightsabers themselves. The only thing that could bring down even a shitty (i.e. Luke) Jedi was another one. In the prequels you had a bunch of apparently REALLY shitty Jedi dying because movie tropes and hack writing more so than because they weren't insanely strong. The cartoon actually showed what droids should be to Jedi: a bunch of metal scrap to toss around and crush at your discretion. In the prequels, they didn't do that because stupid

I liked the first Force Unleashed game. Except the level when you had to kill the Star Destroyer. That sucked.

Not only did Force Unleashed have Lucas's approval, he pushed them to make it even more extreme. Yet in the prequels he kept telling the fight choreographers to stop using wire-fu and to tone down the acrobatic stuff.

That didn't stop them from putting in that awful fake flip Dooku pulls off in EP3. Ugh. Or the horribly obvious wire work when Obi Wan flings himself up and over Maul in laughable slow motion.

I wouldn't mind things like the visual waves of energy when they are slamming people around with the force. Or shit like the (awesome) Faora fight in Superman where she is warping around. But no Spiderman levels of CGI acrobatics, please.

i may be wrong but I believe none of the EU will be considered canon for 7-9, which makes sense it would be really overwhelming running every single thing through an EU expert to make sure nothing conflicts, and it would be a huge minefield of stuff to restrict creative ideas. Unless they just used the thrawn trilogy for 7-9 of course, but I don't have much hopes for that.

I remember reading the original screenwriter for Episode 7 basically left because he wanted episode 7 to be mostly about luke/leia/han's kids, and JJ Abrams wants it to be mostly about Luke/Leia/Han with the kids taking over at the end and episodes 8 and 9 just having them (maybe years later?). No clue if that's a recipe for success or failure, while it sounds cool on paper, I'm not really sure I wanna see 75 year old Han Solo crashing the Millenium Falcon into other spaceships in the parking lot. Either way its too late, the script for episode 7 was finished last week so its done.

still, its hard to imagine a lot of scenarios where episode 7 turns out to be worse than episode 1, so whats the worst that could happen... right...

That's surprising given how much CGI and over the top fight crap he used in the prequels.

Lucas really should have had zero to do with the prequels outside of green lighting them. He probably should have even less involvement in video games. Hopefully ABC/Disney kicks him out of any involvement in the future. If only he had brought in some real writers, and a director like Cuaron, then the prequels would probably still be in the theaters printing money, but his ego couldn't accept he is just a mediocre writer and a terrible director.

I don't expect much for the new series. I expect JJ Abrams will just create another rote adventure movie with light sabers and some easter eggs for the diehard fans. He can't be any worse than Lucas, whose target audience for a 30+ year old series was preteens.

Are you talking about Star Trek? Cause time travel has been a staple of Star Trek since always.

Fringe and Lost also had a bit of time travel here and there, Abrams does love his time travel. He is smart enough to know that doesn't fit in Star Wars like it does in Star Trek or his other stuff though.

However way you want to take this. I am meh about it but knowing the director...

Time travel - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki

Flow-walking
Jacen Solo learned a Force power called "flow-walking" from the Aing-Tii. This ability allowed him to not only view the past and future, but also leave an imprint of himself there. He used this power in 35 ABY to witness the crash of the Tachyon Flier in 27 ABY, and leave an imprint of himself for his mother, Leia Organa Solo, to follow.

In 40 ABY, Jacen flow-walked two more times, this time to the Jedi Temple to observe the fall of his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker.

Ben Skywalker used flow-walking to witness Jacen while he learned the ability from the Aing-Tii.

Troy Denning.

So anyone who wants to read SW EU novels, here's a quick guide...

Shit that's a Damn Good Novel Period: Anything by Matthew Stover.
Shit that's a Damn Good SW Novel: Thrawn Trilogy and the other Thrawn Duolgy that Zahn wrote, the X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston, the first Republic Commando book, anything by James Luceno.
Shit that's Shit that People with Bad Taste Say Isn't Shit: New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi, Darth Bane Books.
Shit On Another Level that Only Shit Addicts Would Read: Everything Else.

Agree 100%. The only reason I kept reading is because I wanted to know the over all story archs for both Legacy and Fate. With better writing and not having 8 different authors for the series, then it might've had potential. What I find hilarious is all this passed the lucas lore and direction goals to be written in the first place. I've read interviews about how tough it was even the story outlines approved, let alone final drafts.

The crazy power levels of Force Unleashed don't even come close to the stuff Jacen and Luke do during Legacy/Fate. Since all this was being developed and outlined around the same time it makes sense that GL was all for it. The only reason I even played the second game outside of storyboard was to get a visual of the black saber crystal. Hah.

There were a few singular ideas that I really liked in all this EU stuff. Ideas about why Yoda distanced himself from everything and how that paralleled to fights Luke refused to face. That sort of thing. Can't blame me for trying to hold onto a few good ideas in 20+ books though.

Timothy Zahn's novels are by far the best ones and the top of my SW food reading pyramid. If you want to read EU. read the Thrawn Novels. The rest pretty much suck.

The Darth Bane books were readable, but closer to fanfiction than actual professional writing, and they are probably the best of the lot of other stuff. The rule of two just pisses me off, as it's idiotic.

I find it interesting you put Stover at the top of your list, and then put New Jedi Order in the list of mostly bad books.
