Starting to wonder is the NK senior military leaders are the ones provoking confrontation so an outside country will come in and finally dismantle the Kim Regime / Dynasty. They know they can't 'Coup' a cult of personality from the inside, maybe this is a cry for help to the outside?? just a thought.

"Selfless" and "Selfish" are interchangable and synonymous when the context is positive global change (i.e micro loans to Sumatra etc...) because by bettering struggling economies and societies, the US thereby broadens it's future's horizon.
He's right, this is an old school "liberal" (Liberal in the economic sense--as in capitalist) dogma. The more people have, the better customers they are. The best way to get more for yourself, if you own a lot, isn't to take another person's portion, because eventually you'll run out (Which is happening now). Rather it's to grow the entire economy, and then your slice naturally gets larger.

annnnnnnd now we're bloodthirsty. What the hell is happening here?
I am bloodthirsty? The situation in North Korea is completely against any sort of human ethics I know. Fixing North Korea isn't our problem, yet. Doesn't mean they are some of the most brutal people on this earth, because they are. You do or you do not<PERIOD> when you are born a North Korean. Sorry if that disgusts me.

go crawl back into that red sox hole you like to live in.

Part of the problem is that we have never effectively used war as a tool to effect those humanitarian ends. I'm not just talking about America with "we". I mean civilization itself. So, while I can appreciate the intent and the sentiment behind the thought -- I really can --, when someone says "We should just go in there and make this right" I'm left wondering, "Because that's worked so astoundingly well in the past that we obviously know how to do that?"

It's not enough to just kill the bad guys. Which is too bad. The situation would be much easier if it were.

I enjoyed the interview up until the Twitter bullshit at the end. I think Clinton felt the same way.

What will be funny is when Kim miscalculates and we end up pushing his shit in a bit. Once the US starts building up forces for real, China will feel the heat and act by forcing an internal coup that will end in the death of the Kim dynasty.

He seemed like he was being a good sport, but he was not entirely amused. I'm sure he wanted to talk about actual policy and initiatives rather than the (good natured) fluff that Colbert was tossing at him.

That's what I got out of it. Clinton didn't super wanna be there and Colbert was kind of intimidated.

I'd be intimidated too. And I assume Colbert is a bigger fan of Clinton than I am.

Wanting to depose the monstrous North Korean regime is hardly bloodthirstiness. Random trivia: The minimum height allowed for enrolment into the North Korean military has been reduced to 4' 9" because the endemic starvation of the population has led to entire malnourished generations. And that's for the people that are treated 'nicely' by the regime.
Have you ever met anyone from North Korea? I'm 5"10"; my old classmates from NK were all around my height. Obviously things suck there, but the idea that everyone there is a malnourished midget is simply propaganda.

Was this class in a foreign school? If so, the people you were with were the children of very important people. Obviously though your anecdotal evidence based on a group of outliers is probably right and the actual statistical data showing a height difference between north and south (Between 1.5 and 3 inches) based on data from aid workers, and refugees, is just "propaganda".

lol at how they drew Obama.

Chinese comic shows an impish Kim Jong-un, standing on a pedestal and urinating on the United States, Japan and South Korea. Off to one side, China leans on its cane and says, ?Stupid child, you?re asking for death.?

Yes, a foreign school. Yes of course they were very privileged students; they wouldn't have been allowed outside NK otherwise. If you'll note, the quote I took issue to suggested that even those that were treated "nicely" by the North Korean regime were suffering from malnutrition. Though malnutrition is rampant in NK, the suggestion that everyone in the entire country doesn't eat their fill simply isn't the case.

"Before his escape from North Korea, Lee Gi-chul served as a lieutenant in the Korean People's army, part of the second war training unit responsible for guerrilla warfare.

He said that although the outside world might not enjoy growing animosities between North Korea and the west, it was something his fellow soldiers looked forward to. Not because they were overly patriotic, but because this was the only time they were fed properly."

"The situation is very bad. People are starving. There are some rich people, some rich politicians, who have a lot of money, but the rest of the people do not have anything. My father and mother both starved to death and my older brother died of illness," he said. "

Stupid question I'm sure; why haven't we just... attacked them?

I would suggest nuclear warfare but I'm well aware many of the citizens are innocent in all of this. So... just attack them, it shouldn't be that hard to just mobilize and destroy their leadership and leave - letting South Korea take them over.

Again, stupid question I'm sure. :/

I don't think it's a stupid question, and more to the point I don't think anyone is qualified to even answer that question.

My guess though? We can't continuously dish peace rhetoric to the UN to then pre-emptively strike an assumed threat.

Not to mention China would freak out.
