If all we did DDOS them that's a pretty weak way to retaliate. I suspect it's Anonymous doing it. We'll see I guess.

That article said NK has just barely over 1k IP addresses. LOL. Can't be to hard to knock down their entire network.

Well, if that's the case then the FBI and the White House are colluding with Sony to cover it up, because even if Sony lied to the FBI, by the time they were done combing over Sony's network they would know about it. Also, even if money was demanded, it sure must have been an astronomical amount, because I'm sure Sony would have happily paid anything semi-reasonable to avoid this disaster going public.

I'm not saying what you're stating is impossible, but it paints a conspiracy that involves the government that would make themselves look bad, which doesn't make much sense. From a governmental PR perspective, its a lot less damaging to make the claim that this was done by some hacker group than it does to lay the blame on North Korea.
I'm not sure the exact laws but I am fairly sure that if they did get stolen from, they would have to report that as losses to their shareholders and the govt. If they were covering it up, like you said, the level of coverup would be enormous, I don't see how it would even be possible.

I really don't think people understand the level to which Sony got owned here. They were fucking signing malware with Sony's certificates. If they wanted the money Sony has in a bank somewhere, they could have had it. They had to make a conscious choice not to take that. That alone leads me to immediately think "state actor" rather than private entity. Really, I haven't heard a convincing reason why it couldn't be North Korea other than "LAWL NORTH KOREA", which is silly. They did this exact same thing 2 years ago to Saudi Aramco, but they didn't disparage Denzel Washington's good name so i guess it isn't as interesting.

Yup, exactly. SJW hacker groups take credit for their work, and extortion hackers would have either stolen the cash, or held all of Sony's data in ransom. Once you eliminate the notoriety motive, and the money motive, all you're really left with is a state actor.

After 24 hours I expect to hear that the crack team of Best Korean Super Best Bureau of Bestest Investigation has determined that the US government is behind their current internet problems.

Meanwhile, 3 guys who were in charge of infrastructure security are dragged out back and shot for not knowing anything.

Are we really supposed to fear a cyber army from a country where you can take their entire connection to the internet offline......

Absurdities, and yet back in the world there could be actual consequences for showing a picture of Mohammed or whatever other stupid shit. Who are you to demand that other people pay those consequences?
A sentient being who possesses a sense of worth for my other possessors of sentience. One who is honor-bound not to allow my fellow brains to be enslaved by idiocy, and will not see them handed over to the fuckingfaithsof others.

Or, they are still extorting which is the very reason why Sony isn't releasing this movie because the hackers have already leaked some damaging stuff and said if you put the movie out we release even worse stuff. In the meantime there is some kind of crazy plan to delay it all while Sony converts money into physical cash or something else? Really a stretch here but it's possible.

They can't pay people? Come on now.

Unlikely, but maybe this will help spur some real progress in the computer and network security implementations of corporate America. Then again, it might take an entire bank being cleaned out before we take it seriously.

Every so often I read about westernrs caught in NK at the border trying to cross or whateever. Are those sympathizers with NK or are they trying to infilitrate NK for a varity of other reasons.

The NK revolution begins once we sneak a copy of Starcraft into the country.

North Korea is back up apparently and if this was the US doing it's pretty fail. I'm sure NK will blame it on us none the less. If this was honestly us it's pretty much egg on our face because I would like to hope we could accomplish much more than a ddos. If there was a time to test out our cyberwarfare arsenal it's now, but you can't show too much like NK did.
