It feels very odd agreeing with Mist.
An insider would make some sense, discounting the fact that again the hackers had access to untold millions of dollars and didn't take any of it. But "most security experts" definitely have not said that.

Yeah, sure. But burning a theater or a lone gunman mass shooting are completely plausible. It isn't your money, the people who own the theaters don't want to take the risk. Really that's the end of the story.

As for whether or not they did it, we know they have been actively building attack cells using resources and techniques they get feom Iran, and we know they were likely involved in the Aramco hack back in 2012 . And we know they could have made off with millions, they very literally owned the network, and they didn't, instead opting to embarrass the execs. I don't see why it is so far fetched.
The theaters don't care about the actual risk of an attack. They have insurance for shit like that. Like I said before, the theaters are concerned with their customers not showing up because their customers don't want to take the risk.

I just assume that the Team America part of it is entirely wrapped up in contract and IP deals.

Like if these theaters showed team america again then someone would be legally obligated to pay someone else monies, and fuck that noise. Go buy the dvd, bitches!

Not that I know any of that to be true, but I assume that's exactly what it is instead of any kind of ideological statement.

Why would you assume this? Old movies like Team America get shown at theaters all the time. Hell, the theaters that wanted to show this wouldn't have said they were going to show it unless they already had the rights.

Well, yeah, that is what risk is. Risk doesn't just refer to violence. They made a judgement that the financial risks of showing the movie outweigh the cons of not showing it. Whether they think people won't want to see the movie because of threats of violence or because the movie isn't good or whatever idk, but someone somewhere clearly has some research showing that playing the movie is not in the best interest of the theaters. Or maybe not, maybe they're just winging it. But I doubt it.

Chaos, did you check under your bed for North Koreans when you woke up this morning?

I usually only check for Russians, at least until their economy completely tanks. Putin and NK in a race to the worlds shittiest standard of living, I wouldn't count your boy out of the race yet.

Be sure to check your closet for China's navy to make sure they aren't invading us so Merlin doesn't shit himself.

Chinas navy is busy cruising the seas looking out for a missed airplane and gobbling up all that radioactive bananas and mangosteens, though.

Team America isn't so old. Ten years ago the internet existed and streaming was starting.

It's easier to believe the there is some sort of copyright or royalty issue than to believe a bunch of small theaters are all terrified of NK or something.

They said they were but then didn't. Thinking they had the rights isn't the same as having them. And if they just got strongarmed, that's basically semantics when it comes to media production. IP being what it is.

But I unno. Coulda been something else entirely.

Acts of war and terrorism are almost always excluded under most insurance policies. Endorsements for terrorism coverage exist under TRIA (insurers don't have the capital to offer the coverage privately.) Then there are specific triggers that must be met, along with significant deductibles and co-pay percentages. An attack would be an enormous loss for the theater.

Utterly contemptible that the Black Prince would criticize a private actor for wilting under the threat of violence from another government. The US should be out there giving them the dick for threatening our citizens, not boarding Air Force One and jetting off to Hawaii for a secluded vacation.

TRIA expires on December 31st and won't be renewed. Loss of reputation is not covered. tria also only covered losses over $5mm per occurrence.

That is stupid, movies make the vast majority of bank on release, Sony would be stupid to release it two just a few theaters, as Chaos said it can only be released once.

Yeah if they ever want to do a theatrical release they can only do it if all the big theater chains get back on board.

Try 4k theaters in the US and I'm sure you'll get to go see it
