Why?
How many times do we want to do this? Can somebody come up with an original plot? Anybody?
well, Eggers is, the VVitch, The lighthouse, and The Northman. (also did a Hansel and Gretel, the tell tale heart)
So, I've never read any interviews iirc. but, I have seen dicussions about the VVitch and wanting to go back to the original myths and stories and create a "historically accurate" tale of of colonial witches.
The northman is the original danish story, which was turned into Hamlet.
The lighthouse is based on a truish story of a lighthouse keeper, who went kindof nuts. (not to be confused with "the vanishing 2019. thats a different lighthouse incident) this one, 2 keepers. one dies naturally. but, the other keeper has to preserve the body for 3 weeks, because he is afraid he will get accused with murder if he buries or disposes of the body in the sea. so the mental toll of being alone on an island for 3 weeks with a body, while doing his work, etc, really fucked him up.
so, Eggers seems to really like going back to these original myths and retoring them in the public eye. look at how vampires and witches are seen in the modern eye. sparkling sexy vampires, sexy witches, goths, wiccan, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him make some Tomb of the Mummy, and proper 1930's occult movies. shadow people, green man, the curse of the mummy, etc.
or what about genies? or stories about fairies, and fae, like Rip van winkle?
I think there is totally great potential for bringing these original ideas and version back into the culture.
