Episode 3 was ok, it was definitely the best of the prequels but Anakin's dark side switch is too rushed and that faggy shit Daez just posted completely ruined their fight which had been pretty epic up until that point.

If the Season 2 finale of Mandalorian didn't have you on the verge of tears of joy, you're a fucking liar. Favreau and Filoni may not be perfect but they love Star Wars and they love Star Wars fans. Of course there's plenty of reason to be skeptical of Kenobi because it's under the purview of the KKK instead of F&F, but Deborah Chow did good work on her episodes of Mando S1. Honestly, Star Wars is probably better off today than it was in the aftermath of the prequels, despite how much worse the sequels were.

I liked this little interview, but two WTFs: Black inquisitor basically sounds like she went into this not knowing a damn thing about Star Wars, and Ewan drops Jar-Jar love? Noooooooooo!

Time has been very kind to the prequels. Sure, they're a blue-screen hellscape, but we (humanity) were too hard on them during their time.

Nah Attack of the Clones is still hot garbage, and I still hate how Padme died, but I will give you Phantom Menace is nowhere as bad to me anymore, though that may be because the sequels were even worse.

maybe you had to be a little kid to get nostalgic over TPM, but as someone who went to see the original SW at the theater back in 77 and saw the midnight showing of TPM on the Wednesday of its release. it was a jarring experience. everyone in the theater was cheering and clapping at the story crawl at the the start, but by the end credits the theater was dead silent and everyone just quietly got up from their seats and left. none of us knew wtf that shit was we just sat through. it hasnt gotten better for me over time. i skipped the clones movie at the theater and only went to see ROTS because it was supposed to have Darth Vader in it. yeah, for 30 seconds.

I was actually pretty thrilled at Ep 7 in the theater, it wasn't until I was walking through the parking lot that it all started to fall apart in my head.

That was mostly my experience with Ep 7 as well. On initial viewing I thought, "Holy shit, is Star Wars back?!". Then I remember thinking, "Wait, that actually kind of sucked..." on the drive home, when thinking about it more.

Episode 7 felt like a rehash of Episode 4, whereas Eragon simply copied all the plot points from Ep4. Their only success was that TFA felt Star Wars-y but was entirely leaning on setting up 8 & 9 and not good on its own. Then RJ + KK churned out Last Jedi and benefit of the doubt was gone.

to be fair to that kid Eragon was a mishmash of copied fantasy and sci-fi, not just Star Wars. And Star Wars itself is such a formulaic hero's journey that any similarly straightforward hero's journey will inevitably bear it some resemblance. He obviously never would have been published in the first place if it weren't for his parents, but I think he managed to distinguish himself with quality original writing in the latter half of the quartet.

I will give Abrams this much credit: he is expert at milking nostalgia and making things appear superficially right. I similarly loved the 2009 Star Trek movie when I first saw it and it wasn't until I saw other people picking at it (and especially looking at it in retrospect after Into Darkness came out) that I realized how flawed it was. By the time Ep 7 came out I was much more on my guard against Abrams but the nostalgia was too strong.

they could have easily made something superior to the prequel trilogy if they hadn't completely shit the bed with ep 8 & 9

No, you're 100% right. All the reasons have been beaten to absolute death but even 7 had that... indescribable "polished, paint-by-numbers programming" to it that silently screams "we have no originality here and are just riding Lucas's creative coattails".

TFA was just a superficial setup to TLJ. basically a Star Wars reboot with a woman who already outclassed Luke in every single way. she didnt need any training when she already could clown the empire on her own. she didnt need no man. she was the absolute Mary Sue. as bad as TLJ was, RJ didnt really get much to work with either in the form of character growth. so he went with complete destruction of everything Star Wars fans loved, i guess in hopes that whomever did ep9 would start over with their own clean slate. you can see that none of these people had a "vision" or even a clue about what made Star Wars, Star Wars. it wasnt about light saber dances and blowing up death star after death star. Lucas made Star Wars because he couldnt secure the rights to Flash Gordon and so he made his own Flash Gordon. the Flash Gordon series is where you really need to get your inspiration from. Star Wars morphed into something completely different as time went on.

Adding major plot elements in post-production ADR is an unforgivable hack job. These actors should have been given more respect than that.

So I'm inclined to agree TFA is the worst of them-- with all things accounted for.

TFA was awful. In its own way it may have even been the worst of the sequels.

I don't know, this feels like a lot of what came after souring it in retrospect. I left the theater after TFA thinking they had done an all right job making it feel like Star Wars (versus how I felt after seeing Phantom Menace), even if they just copied so many story elements. Calling it the worst when 8 and 9 exist is just crazy to me. I can still watch TFA when it comes on TV and be like "yeah, the Han and Chewie stuff hit, there's still enough there that it's an okay watch". I just can't bring myself to watch Last Jedi again, and I've still never seen 9 and don't want to after hearing all the plot elements and terribad shit.
