I'm pretty torn on how to best do placement matches. There's some Reddit threads out there saying "play what your team needs" but ive been burned by so many matches when people try to mirror the fotm tournament comp and get completely stream rolled because tournament play and placement/qp are not the same thing. Im almost thinking its best to just play what YOU know you can play well with the other picks. I don't know. I didn't really play the last season.

I'd def insist on playing what you want within each category. If i have 30 hours on zen do you think it's better for me to heal as mercy since we only have 1 support? The answer is fuck you.

I think it's important to know how to play at least one Tank, one Support and if possible one Damage very well if you want to play Competitive.
If my team needs a tank I play D.Va very well and if they need support I bring Lucio or Mercy. If we have enough tanks and support I bring Reaper/Soldier.

It's really tough to pick a hero you don't know well in a competitive game and you will play games where your main hero is going to be picked or not needed.

I think the most important thing people don't learn about this game is when it's time to switch hero. If you are playing into 3 of your counters, it's time to switch.

Just wanted to report that in my placements I've been ignoring the needs of the team and dunking on sluts with junkrat. Currently 3-0. Feels good.

yep,, i play Zenyatta/Lucio/Ana in that order for support. Tanks i play Roadhog/Zarya/Rein in that order. Offensive i play Reaper/76/Phara. Junkrat/Hanzo/Mei.

Gotta learn a little of everything.

I just played a competitive game in Volskaya? Industry (Russian map) and we kept repeating it attacking/defending around 7-8 times, I lost track. Everyone was confused why this was happening. It was weird the last two games we both were attacking and the final one we won after capping point A. What the fuck is going on here?

It's a time bank. You keep going until you run out of time. If you both cap both points, the team with the least time remaining attacks first. It sounds like it probably got to a 4-4 point, and their team finished the second point with 0 time remaining. Then when you capped the first point it ended since they had no time remaining with which to try to cap it.

Edit: Finished my placements 6-4. Grouped with someone for the last couple I really shouldn't have because he really sucks, but so's life. Placesd 27xx. Played 3 games after and went 2-1 on those, peaked at 2801. I really feel like if I have competent people that can peel from me I just crush faces on Zenyatta. There was a Gibraltar game that I had 5 golds on attack, and got POTG without even using Transcendence by just crushing souls. It's so reliant on people around you being able to keep focus off you though. I hate rando's who insta lock Mercy and Lucio, and then we struggle to kill anyone. I really think Zen is still pretty mandatory.

Finished placement. Ended up with 2347 or so. Had horrible matches...7 losses, 3 wins total. One of the wins is when I got sick of losing and went attack Torb on Dorado...opposing team rage quit lol

Went 5-3-2 in my placements and got 2550 or something. It really seems at this rank, the greatest determining factor in winning versus losing is team comp. Seems like 95% of games where my team picks a well rounded, balanced comp it results in a win, or at the very least, a close and competitive match. On the flip side, a team that simply plays what they want with no regard to what is needed to actually win the match results in a loss nearly every time. I can tell if I'm going to win or lose before the match even begins.

How come I went 7 wins 2 losses 1 draw and got placed at 2407? It seems a lot of people with 6 wins or less got placed higher. :/

There are some individual performance metrics in the background that contribute to your ranking. No one really knows how they work though. I think they are independently based on the hero, so you have to play well for the hero you are playing.

Alright, that seems more complicated than I thought.
What about progressing in the ladder. I so far had 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. I didn't progress I am actually now less than when I started. Moving up in the ladder seems to be too hard :/ You probably need 60%+ win rate in order to progress otherwise then the only way to go is down.

Yeah, it's the same for SR. Most people will move up slowly over time because they'll naturally get better, and better players will filter up faster so you'll be left with more people around your actual skill making it easier to move up for you. Don't expect a lot of movement though. I think a lot of people view it as something you should be able to climb, and that really isn't the case/purpose. It's designed so that you play games with people your skill level so that you hopefully have close competitive games, not as something to grind.

For me, I'm smack in the middle of Platinum. I expect to be able to move up into Diamond, as I feel a lot of my wins now are when I'm playing extremely well and putting the team on my back. I don't expect to ever get into Masters. I've gotten too old and slow. I'll keep playing regardless though, because I enjoy competitive with people who want to try to win.

I'm at 5 win 4 lose. One last match to play. I did play mostly as Lucio/Mercy/Zen cause that what my team needed. I'm not sure I wanna do the last one an know how low playing mainly support get me.....

I got 3W-1L playing with only 1 friend, 2W-1L while playing with a 5 man team and 2 defeat while running my 2 RL friends.

While we queued with 3 the game kept matching us with 4-5 man teams.

I did not get a ton of medals cause I was switching to counter. Start with Lucio get 8 k heal, I switch to Zen to counter their team (Phara, Roadhog,) and in the end I get 12k healing silver and 9 k damage while the losing team Lucio that stayed on him did 23k healing... We did won but I wonder how it will affect my ranking.

Doing placements after not playing around, about to play game 4, but first 3 have already had leavers..... fucking god damn faggot cuck assholes. One guy with admittedly shitty internet (thanks dipshit), other 2 I don't know.

One of them I know we'd lose anyways, got some asshole mercy that rezzed once in like 6 mins and it was at the end pointlessly.

Up to 6-1, going well. Been seeing plat icons in my groups so that's where I'm thinking I'll end up unless I really start shitting the bed.

Ya, her ult seems to charge really fast and it now covers like a mile in diameter. They need to nerf her charge rate on it, it is WAY too powerful right now. Unless Dva happens to have a DMatrix up when she tosses it and it lands in the matrix, your team is fucked.
