I wouldn't say must have, the only mods I've ever considered a must have were pliers and the one that allowed deconstruction of gravitas buildings, both of which klei added into the base game some time ago.

Some good QOL mods:
Build over plants
Buildable Natural tile

Spaced out is must have DLC imo.

Other mods I have installed of varying usefulness:

hah, i was about to suggest you play oni after playing rimworld.

I run "airlock door", pip plant overlay, bigger camera zoom out

i always, also disable suit wear because it was introduced after i already had thousands of hours in the game and it's too tiresome to deal with, so i leave it off.

Which is fine and all but you're basically gonna be flushing 30-50 hours down the drain if you don't click on this spoiler. It's a single tip that covers something that's incredibly frustrating to learn on your own and still leaves you with plenty to figure out for yourself.

Dig out the entire starter biome and wall it off with insulated tiles, this has to be done in pretty much every single playthrough.

There's a fair bit of important mid to late-game stuff you'll most likely never learn on your own though.

Just expanded a bunch. Going to try and figure out husbandry or whatever with those beetles in the bottom left and the plants they polinate or whatever.

specific heat capacity

I have a gas pump at the very top of my base that sucks hydrogen in and pushes it to the hydrogen generator. If this is retarded please don't tell me. You can see it in the pic below.


I found a Natural Gas geyser and am trying to build out to use it. I'm hoping it'll save my dupes from having to run on the hamster wheel.

i'm trying to work out why my rocket passenger module has 32k gas per tile. if my poor space man wasn't in a suit he'd have exploded ears:
