Was looking for a game, saw this thread and downloaded it.

What the fuck, CO2 is gradually creeping up my base. How do I get rid of it!?

Open the oxygen tab and pick something.
I'm making enough Oxygen, the people are making CO2 that's filling the bottom level.

I feel like I missed a mechanic. I see gas pipes but not sure how to vent it, just looking a pointer in the right direction.

You probably want Carbon Skimmer for early game.

There is also Algae Terrarium

If you're lucky with a care package you can get Oxyfern

If you search for carbon dioxide in your game database it'll show all the things that consume it.

Thanks, I think that's what I missed.

I guess that I should I be digging up ASAP and finding the surface to dump anything problematic?
hell no. carbon pits can be used to farm mushrooms which are an excellent mid game food. Basically everything in this game can be used as a resource in some way or another. Trying to space your co2 early is a tremendous waste of time and effort. Move your living quarters up a little higher in the starter biome and dig out more room below you for the CO2 to settle.

Also do not use algae terrariums. They burn through algae like mad and algae is one of the least sustainable resources in ONI.

basically everything (except gunk) is worth saving if you can. at the start of the game it's hard to use the excess of c02, so i tend to vent it into space to start. later when i need it for short range rocket fuel, farming, or making soda, i'll make my C02 evacuatin lines have a bridge that send the gas to storage or buildings/rooms that want it.

its real hard to run out of c02 in the long run tho, so don't feel bad about venting it early.

Ah, I didn't think to just dig more to give it more areas to settle for my CO2 problem, I'd been trying to suction it out and vent it over to an area I was just going to treat as toxic where I was starting to setup a coal generator. Was using that as a reason to learn how to setup a little airlock with breathing masks and stuff, lol. That would make my max pressure problem become irrelevant too then.

All this talking about ONI made me realize that it really has been a loooong time since I've played. The base game hasn't really changed in that time but tactics and builds have continued to be refined so I thought I'd walk back/add qualifiers to some of the things I've said so far after watching a couple more recent gameplay videos.

I still generally stand by what I said about insulating the entire starter biome. If you've accumulated enough hours in ONI to feel like you don't need to do this then you don't really need random message board tips in the first place. Newer players who are still working things out or people who just go at a slower pace will leave a lot more time for the surrounding biomes to heat up the starter til you get trapped in a death spiral.

Digging up to space early to vent gasses is not an unreasonable solution in the base game since there's no CO2 rocket engine like there is in Spaced Out. Also I think meteor showers were changed to no longer gradually destroy the top of your asteroid in the base game which was a major reason to avoid breaching into space as long as possible because that was what triggered the start of meteor showers.

Day 194. Got plastic up and running, which took forever. If I need to build something far away I might try building a second base, idk. I also built a great hall and nice bedrooms. Please don't give me any help.

I don't think it counts as help because it's too late to implement it now without doing an incredibly tedious remodel but I'll put it in spoilers to respect your stubbornness

You should have a primary transit column that is a 3 square wide gap so there is room for a ladder, fire pole, and eventually a transit tube. The fire pole alone will allow for much faster dupe travel.

There's a couple other things I want to comment on from that screenshot but I'll refrain even though they're driving me crazy.

Something I'm curious about, is there something analogous to the repeatable research that's in Factorio or Dyson Sphere Program? Maxing out my science per minute and then making it highly reliable was a fun endgame goal.
