I've been unintentionally following a Primal style diet for ~3 months now and it's been the greatest change I've made to my life--I have had so much more energy and mental clarity and focus and the only thing I've changed is my diet. The basic principles I've followed are:
Get ~1g of protein per pound of LBM through protein powder and meats (80% chicken)
Eat massive amounts of veg--usually in the form of a veggie shake (spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, carrot, broccoli, and an apple)
Get my carbohydrates in the form of just a couple of fruits a day--usually blueberries, bananas, or apples.
Super simple to follow, has had outstanding effects in terms of mental and physical performance, haven't had too many cravings for anything cheat-like, and there is no way that any of this could be considered even remotely unhealthy. The only difference between my diet and a "clean" bodybuilding diet is that I eat a few fruits instead of brown rice or sweet potatoes.
Honestly, as long as you don't get into the Atkins mindset that drinking liquid bacon is ok because it doesn't contain carbs then you're not really doing any harm. Your body is great at giving you feedback on what you're doing, listen to it.
