If you're going to talk shit about his wealth-while-begging-money, it's your pejorative to bring up a $7,000 bike, but it ameliorates your argument and makes you look absurd and partisan.
Not to mention his non-current-model-year $40,000 BIG DICK BALLER 'sports car'. Give me a break. Brad REEKS of 'I once had some money', now, not so much. His bike, car, and clothing all say 'average dude' to me. I bet this whole situation arose from buying that big house when Vanguard got released, and not being able to afford it now that his situation has changed. I bet 2008-2009 fucked him hard.

Btw, for increased lulz, a poll on races is up on pantheon boards

I definitely can agree with that. All evidence points to his trying to live beyond his means atm.

Im still waiting for you to explain how the terms were not used correctly. All you've done is link a wiki definition that I showed supported what I said as opposed to contradicting it.
I'm done shitting up this thread with this vocabulary derail after this last post. Promise.

No. I'm not your English teacher. I'm not going back through your back-alley-abortion posts to tell you how you used words incorrectly. Words you were specifically using to lend a sense of intellectual credence to your arguments. The fact that you believe the link I posted on the word 'pejorative' supports your use of it, proves that any attempt I make to educate you would be fruitless. Your grasp of the language is pretty rough.

Word to the wise: you'll get more respect from well thought out content, not impressive vocabulary.

I know you understood it as being my asking you to refute the statements. We both can agree that you're smart in that regard. But I do agree it is/was derailing to have jumped from the discussion about Brad onto word choices because you dont feel it fits here(discourse community norms). I get that.

IMHO he should have stuck with SOE and tried pouring his heart and soul into a project there.

Brad is never going to learn. He had trouble with funding and management with Vanguard and he is having those troubles now. SOE could solve both of those problems and allow him to 'create'. That brings up more questions though...is Brad too proud to 'just' be a lead Dev on a project under Smed at SOE? Does he want to make games that don't align with SOE's "Vision" for what they want to make, for example, SOE wanting to push for more mainstream games and Brad still wants to make somewhat old-school style MMOs? Is Brad not humble enough to work for whatever SOE would pay him and he wants to strike out on his own so that he can get a bigger house and more motorcycles? Or is it as simple as Brad thinking too highly of his own abilities, thought SOE didn't value him enough and he decided that he'd strike out on his own?

I mean, I'm sure that it's pretty damned unlikely that he'd ever make the money that he made from EQ1 again unless he left SOE (again), because I can't see SOE being so generous to Brad as to leave the door open to him making millions with how things are now. But I also can't imagine that he'd be paid a shitty entry level salary at SOE either, and he wouldn't have to bilk KS money to pay his bills.
You know who is making the game Brad wants to make? Shroud of the Avatar aka UO part II. I like the alpha it's as old school as it gets. Most of the game will remind you of 1999, the same era Brad is stuck in. Could he hitch his wagon to that game? He should sure as hell try.

I agree that SotA is pretty much the best "old school" option on the table at the moment, but I highly doubt, especially after all this, that Garriot would let Brad any where near his game.

Brad wants to make a different kind of game. Soe wants no part in this type of game anymore so it goes no where. Brad is a one trick pony, but I love it.

We don't need Brad to have the game many of us want, but It's unfortunate, because he's the only one out there trying to do it that has the resources. He fucked up and now we have to suffer longer.

I'm sitting here waiting for secrets to put the Mac emu server live, that's how fucked mmos have become to me. Fuck you soe! Grandpa needs his progression server.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to speak of you in the pejorative. I hope to ameliorate our relationship in the future.

I haven't looked into it much, but I remember something about the cities being in MMO format (everyone in the world running around in the same 'home' locations) but that outside of that, it was more of a multiplayer RPG than an MMO. That was from a long time ago so I don't know how accurate that was, and I gather that it might be blurring the line between MMOs and online multiplayer RPGs, but that is one of the things that interested me the most.

SotA is not an MMO, which is very, very.. very sad.
Yeah they call it a "selective multiplayer game". I can't help but feel that has to do with some sort of design constraints they realized early on over it being an intended design, but I dont know for sure. Im not closely following it, atm.

The only things I'd want an MMO for anymore is good PVP and world building. I can't really think of many games (possibly any games) where I thought that the PVP was worthwhile and actual worldbuilding on the scale I'd want seems to be well beyond current capabilities and that might never change. Even in MMOs where PVP isn't a battleground or arena, the PVP is rarely part of the gameworld itself and seems to exist in some parallel design schema that doesn't mesh well or at all with the PVE design. I have zero desire to fight for points, honor, tokens, keeps or RVR locations, rank...EVE might be the closest to what I'd like but EVE has a lot of issues that I think prevent players from getting into that part of the game.

I think in time, what we are seeing with EQL, we may get that. Since I'm on my H1Z1 kick... It may hit on those points. I don't know how far they plan to take world building but it'll exist to extent.

Same... I have some hope for EQN, but I'm not expecting much from the PVP game. We'll see if they are brave enough to do what should be done.

I wish I had the resources to get my game concept made... *sigh*

Im cautiously interested in both of those. I got a Landmark package for free months ago and play it a bit but got bored with the testing around with it before water came in and haven't loaded it since. Since I've a lifetime station thing too, Im hoping that I'll be able to get some sort of perks for h1z1 once it releases without having to invest in it thus nothing to lose for trying it.

And I'm slightly interested in Elite Dangerous due to the supposed massive size of the play world they've generated for it. Just was reading this article on it:Gamasutra - Learning about our own universe by modeling it in Elite: Dangerous

in what way is it not an an MMO?

I log in there is a world that I share with other players. I can trade with them I can adventure with them, I can guild with them, I can build a house they can visit. Next release later this month I can PvP with them What am I missing that SotA is not an MMO?

I think Dumar is probably referring to the nature of the world. From what I understand, it is a segmented instanced world where you won't 'run in' to other players, correct? Outside of cities/hubs, they can only be with you if you are specifically grouped with them? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, it's been quite some time since I've looked SotA closely.

If I'm correct, the 'massively' in MMORPG isn't really there.
