How many of you have decided to purchase one of the support packages for this? I took a look at them and read the forums looked at the characters etc... it has me intrigued, but I am loathe to be taken, once again, by a game that had a nice shiny surface and absolutely no substance. I guess pledging 500 bucks for 2 copies of the game and 3 months play time along with the other perks, isn't horrible. What do you think?
And ya, EQ mapping to date has been my favourite.
Cons:
1. Brad McQuaid
2. From what I can tell they have completed/populated one zone and one dungeon out of maybe 25+ zones and 15+ dungeons? That's a long ways to go.
3. They have about one third of the classes somewhat done but not fleshed out or balanced.
4. As far as I know they do not have a 3d artist on the team. And no player models (7 races), armor/weapons, mobs, animations have been done.
5. Most of the team is still voluntary.
Pros:
1. They have a CEO and its not McQuaid.
2. They seem to have a dedicated team (though dedication does not equal excellence).
3. They have 10,000 backers (conservatively 1 mil in donations) plus its implied they have had a couple of "angel investors".
4. They are still adding to the team (15 or 17 now?). Most recently they added a guy from the Vanguard Emu project, you have to be dedicated to work on an emu.
My guess is a 50% chance they will release "something" in the next 4 years. Which is good since a year ago I would have put it at about 5%. Since you would be eligible, alpha/beta will probably be in just a few zones with most of the classes for a looong time. This is indie on a shoestring budget with a questionable faceman but its the only group oriented, class interdependent game on the horizon. If you want to spend the money more power to ya but just know what you are getting into.
