There is absolutely no doubt that the MMORPG genre is passed the cash cow stage in marketing lingo and deep into decline save one or two stand outs. Compared to what the market could have been, there has been a huge/unmeasure opportunity cost lost due to poor management from company leaders in the genre as a whole. Now, we will continue to see niche stand outs and it will continue to shrink as the market for the entire genre grows older.

That's just how it is.

MMO's are bringing in billions of dollars world wide, and the industry keeps growing. A big portion of that growth is in asia (China).

The amount of options for modern gamers is staggering though. It isn't just WoW and a couple of others. With so many options, big whales like WoW are probably never going to happen again. Almost every mmo makes money, lots of it, so they will keep popping them out.

There could eventually be another WoW, if someone out there actually tries to make a unique game and delivers something new instead of just copying WoW and doing the same old, same old. In other words, the next WoW will be nothing like WoW at all.

MMO VR will be the next Unicorn if/when VR devices reach massive adoption.

Geolocation MMO via pokemongo really showed a potentional market, but Niantic fumbled that one pretty hard.

MMORPG in VR definitely will be where it will be at. Imagine something as engaging as EverQuest was with the world building and community aspects in VR with updated graphics. We would never leave our house.

Full VR, nude mod pack, bukkake raids...I'm pretty sure Brad said these are all planned features for Pantheon.

VR Porn will probably be the death of humanity. We're going to end up as brains in a jar gambling for quatloos.

There could eventually be another WoW, if someone out there actually tries to make a unique game and delivers something new instead of just copying WoW and doing the same old, same old. In other words, the next WoW will be nothing like WoW at all.

This is the same logic heroin addicts use to try to relive that first high. It's not going to happen and Brad should know this better than anyone...and anyone else on these forums to be honest.

WoW brought a ton of people to the MMORPG genre and ballooned the industry itself, so that both studios and players alike believe whole-heartedly in the model. Whereas before WoW, MMORPG's were an indie-genre before indie-genres.

Now that the market is huge, thanks to WoW, the next big thing will be much smaller. Games like Crowfall, Camelot Unchained and the like are the most likely to achieve this. I don't personally believe in the Kickstarter method of building a game and I'm certainly not holding my breath, but taking pieces of WoW and trying to improve on them is the path of least resistance.

I mean, philosophically, this was WoW's strategy to begin with. Take EQ and do it better.

The biggest failures are those that try to be WoW. There's already WoW. No one's going to become the new WoW by copying the old WoW.

That's just my two-cents. Maybe I can't see around the corner and there's some MMO Nostradamus out there that will disagree with me.

Would love for a kick starter buy in to sit across from Brad and experience The Vision when the game launches.

I'm down for almost whatever he's down for. Would be great. He's a trip man, I was reading his posts about (and I quote) "renigging" on things, diplomacy and faction systems etc in that AMA he did.

Slowly but surely reading his comments and doing his people handling in the responses became like potato chips in a way... once I read one I couldn't stop reading them randomly one after another until I closed the browser.

Chief Creative Officer (Chief Lore Officer, this is a serious position at the top of his company).... man... and he just keeps coming back and doing this shit rocking black suits and making these hand gestures when he talks at these unveils like he's advancing science or some shit and giving a particle physics lecture.

I'm all in on this fucker especially since he promised an FFA PvP shard at launch. Even if its bad its gonna be good. I can't give up Brad and his Vision lol, just freak.ing. l.o.l. I would be mad at myself if I missed this. I'm not sure how the modern world with reddit etc and everything that goes down in the "personal relationships" he wants players to build would turn out in our modern era of social media.

Like EQ at launch if Reddit was already established as a thing... lol. The EQ bomb and the madness of its community was more contained in certain places back then... but now.. are we truly ready for the pixel sickness to infect social media and spread?
