Of course all this bitching I, and many of you , are doing about the way the KS has been handled ,is only because we genuinely want the game that Brad wants to make. If I didn't fund it and want it , I'd just be mildly enjoying the trainwreck that we have been trying to avoid since the KS went live. I think (and hope) Brad understands that.
This is exactly why I am being critical of the whole thing, the thing I wish more people would think about is if those of us here are having doubts how does the average person who comes across this feel? It should be a no brainer for us, there should be enough information that everyone on this board at least tosses in $10.00 but there really isn't enough to do even that, and this is from a board founded in EQ roots.
Ok I am going to try to dive into this one last time. I know Brad and Co. are reading the thread but I don't know how much they agree with or care about the statements. I really feel like they should put out an announcement and delay the kickstarter for a week or so and put out the word why. Just be humble we jumped the gun a little.
Take a few moments and go over what you want to accomplish with this kickstarter, the stretch goals including shit like other classes make it sound like unless you reach those then classes aren't going to be in the game.
Basic core parts of the game should never be a stretch goal!!! It turns people off. Be upfront that this isn't to fund the game! PERIOD!This kickstarter isn't funding the game if it was you would be asking for 8 million or whatever. Tell us what you intend to do with the fucking money, what your goal is. Define success for this goddamn kickstarter.
Once that is done sit down and think about the rewards, and put together a tier of goods that make sense. Think about the offers, do they make sense, you can have limited ones for sure, the $250 lifetime and the $250 alpha need to be rethought out the most, just like the guild packages do. Offer a limited Alpha + Lifetime at a $300-400 cost I am sure people would fucking jump on it. You will be making physical copies of the games if this succeeded offer a physical copy, no fuck that a signed physical copy that's a decent value add at pretty much no cost to you.
Give us something to fucking chew on about the game. We don't expect shit loads of videos ect, but how about some concept art for monsters, or shit how about an introduction to your current staff and let them toss out a few words why they believe in this project. It would be nice to hear the passion coming from you guys as to why we fucking need this. Your video you don't even seen to inspire yourself. Let these guys say hey Pantheon is the game I have always wanted to make and here it why, this is what makes it special.. talk about instancing, death penalties, talk about the challenges you have had on other games, what you have learned, why you really are reaching out and need the communities help and what you are going to do for them in return.
Get a PR person to set up all of the major gaming sites you can pull interest in to promote the new kickstarter launch date, fucking tweet, facebook, pintest, Reddit AMA, and promote it on all pages at the same time. Talk to someone over at Cursed or MMOChamp see if you can get a small section added into their front page, talk to some of your supporters who enjoyed your games, hit up Penny Arcade, talk to some of the EQ fan sites, or some of the webcomic sites, reach out as if you care spend a little bit of time talking with these people instead of just saying hey guys push my shit out please. I mean just spending a bit of time bullshitting with people here would go a long ways to gaining support for those on the fence. Most of us really would love to see the game you describe, we really would, we are passionate gamers who care about this stuff, so take some time and give us a reason to put down that cash. Hell reach out and see if someone can get in touch with Furor and have him come here and offer his stamp of approval. I am sure that would inspire a few more people to donate. You are a professional developer with a ton of experience that's why so many are surprised about the lack of professionalism with this kickstarter. Why is it different this time around.
You need to sell us the dream with that kickstarter page, not just ask for money.Hell in your current state you are losing as many pledges as you are getting.
