$200k in 10 days ? It's dead Jim, discussing it is as relevant as discussing shadowbane at this point.

Even if it blew the doors off funding, I'd have doubts that Brad's track record would get him any good development talent, and on a shoestring budget if they somehow squeak over the line ?
We have 30 more days to dream about this game before the great depression sets in. At this point I think I'm probably going to play EQ:next and the nostalgia from the names and geography alone will carry it, even if it's a fucking WoW carbon copy. But until then, I won't stop believing.

The guy taking the screenshots probably isn't the guy that made the captions; that and if they had EverQuest style night there wouldn't be much to show anyway.
There's much to show in an EQ style night

you can clearly see that the view range is very limited because it's actually dark.

It's a bit premature to call a project dead when there is still 30 days on the kickstarter project. They had a pretty good day yesterday; if they can bring some more solid updates again today and going forward they could reverse the trend and get it funded. It really depends if Brad and friends have finally got their shit together or not.

Quineloe, I guess it wasn't so obvious that I was exaggerating. My first character in EverQuest was a human ranger and I remember night being really dark and hard to see if I didn't have my candle. According to Vu, nights in Pantheon will be much darker than the screen they showed so it's kind of a moot discussion.

last 8 hours/pages have been complete shit, despite the fact we actually have something to discuss. I'm so proud to be part of this community.

So apparently we get "WoW night", ie a slightly more blue-ish day. Very disappointing, Brad.
I always hated when nights in MMORPGs are nothing but a different color palette. There's no adjustment to your character's vision.

I think the reason why Brad doesn't want to do it is probably because his team can't do it. The engine, I believe, has a lot of limitations and to do custom things like that probably too much? (I'm pulling this out of my ass btw).

I think Game Designers will rarely say "Oh I wish we can do this simple thing but we really have no idea how to code it." but then again maybe Brad really doesn't care about characters vision having mechanical role.

A pretty good day? They definitely improved but their day is still under the daily threshold needed (even if you want to give them an end bump). If they start getting 20K days (and soon) there might be some hope.

Arctic, why are you still here when you're constantly shitting on us in the KS comments section?

and to exmortis, who's reading this thread: I don't feel the need to play with a morbidly obese retard who poses with plastic katanas for his profile picture either.

Hey all, Vu here. No its not a night shot. Just a different skybox (since the other one didn't have clouds) with some different ambient light to test settings. And yes, the night should be much darker.

That's right there in the comments section below the update. Night will be darker according to Vu.

nah.

i think the reason they don't want dark to be super dark is because everyone in EverQuest that made a Barbarian for their first character cancelled their subscriptions after the first month.

Dear Aradune,
All I ask for is a Bard/Dirge/Troubadour style character. I like to be a buff bot that can somewhat DPS. Also, Selos is the shit.

Thank you,
Big Jx3

P.S. Get your shit together, I want to believe in this game.

You know considering the type of game people are asking for why doesn't someone just make an EQ clone with updated graphics, I mean most everything in EQ was generic enough that you could damn near copy all of the classes without running into any legal issues. I mean for fuck sake it's damn near a copy of a D&D book as is. MMO with forced first person perspective, factions, day and night, weather, leave in trains, and FD pulling. Sure it could be interesting if you could update it to be a seemless enough world like they did with WoW so you aren't running into zone lines and they could try and make a slightly smoother combat system but really why do we need to add all the other bullshit of new games and reinvent the wheel?

You could kind of say that's what Brad is attempting to do, but I mean more of just copy EQ in a Project 1999 kind of way, just modernized and changed just enough so SoE can't sue them and people need to explore a little.

Sadly the EQ screenshots are more inspiring than the shit on the Kickstarter, they should of slapped that up there for a Pre Alpha reference.

With all this talk about Unity, I get an itch to try making something myself. Surely it can't be harder then when I created huge Doom levels with DoomEd and DEU where you connected every vertex with linedefs yourself.....linedefs and wads haunted my dreams in those days.

Linking that youtube vid about a random dungeon generator for Unity3d once more to wet the appetite. Unfortunately I do not know if that tool is free, I guess not.

Random Dungeon Generator - YouTube

EDIT: I looked the tool up in the Unity Asset store and its only 75 dollars:Asset Store

Amazing the amount of tools that have been created for Unity.

Also, general pricing for a Unity Pro License:Unity - Store

Wow, only 1575 dollars and I can pretend that I am a game-developer.

Yeah, Unity asset store is crazy. I guess a competent coder could build a complete mmo-framework with unity&asset store extensions in 6-12 month (without playable content). Would cost about 5k max in software licenses.

I got into Unity some 4 weeks ago.

Background: Computer scientist originally, but for the past 10 years I've been doing other stuff.
So I downloaded Unity and activated a 4 week Pro trial licence, and started watching YouTube videos. Within a few days I had the basic workflow down, and once I polished off my somewhat rusty C# skills I was able to put together small minigames fairly quickly.
I could have put together the screenshot that was posted the other day in about 2 hours of work. (Of course, I'm assuming there's actual code behind it as well.)

Right now I'm stumbling around making my own single player Star Citizen-style game, with Oculus Rift support. It's great fun, and surprisingly easy. Using assets from the Asset Store I can put together a prototype framework in a week (working a couple of hours each night).
