i agree. VG was as close to a good MMO as i have played since EQ. if that game would have had 6 more months, and if microsoft didn't back out, it would have been solid. the concept was there, just lacked execution.
This seems revisionist to me. Vanguard was a train wreck at release and six more months would not have made that much of a difference. Also, according to reports wasn't Vanguard released despite Brad being mostly MIA? At least with Garriott's Tabula Rasa game he was there peddling away to the last moment, even though his game was utter crap, until NCSoft tossed him out.

I want Brad to have the passion he had in EQ and to create a visionary AD&D-like dangerous world and to be the guy he was in 1997. The problem I have is unlike Chris Roberts who knows exactly what he wants, I'm not sure Brad is even drinking his own Cool Aid.

What do you mean Gecko? Can you point to something specific that shows Brad is somehow waivering in his "vision?" I mean for the most part he's only been apart of projects from EQ and VG. Even when he want back to SoE. He's also openly said the game will be like those games and look to attract a crowd from those games. You keep saying he doesn't know what he wants but it's pretty clear exactly what his goals are. I mean..I guess you could argue he doesn't know what features? But you don't have to look far.. *cough* EQN to see that's not always something Devs want to write in stone. Just seems like you're reaching a bit and making an assumption based on nothing but an opinion.

I have the strong feeling that any Brad McQuaid project will end up as a complete piece of shit. This guy has the talent to drum up a hype and crash it right into a wall shortly after.

In that light then Id say Brad is ahead of Butler and Smed in the chance to make a non mmo for dummies.

Brads at least saying he'd like to make something closer to EQ/VG.
Smed is advertising Disney Troll Ninja Paladins and Tony the Tiger with the Everquest name to whore it out.

I already know EQN is going to be stupid overall to me , Brads game even at 1% chance of being made has a higher chance to actually be enjoyable to me than EQN.

( sadly EQL may actually be the only enjoyable part of the entire EQ franchise now in the future )

It's about being realistic which I think Brad is right now.. The irony is people who point to VG as the reason to see him being able to compete this project is the reason I think he will. We all need humble pie and he got a big piece of it.

Fair enough. I think I'm lacking a positive opinion because Brad has actually given us nothing. Setting the wayback machine to 1998 does not really do much for my enthusiasm. Indeed I'd like to hear features, support, and how's about a demo or actual design goals and plans?

I think Star Citizen and their process has really spoiled me. I also still remember Brad and his Vanguard bullshit on the forums, when the game was utter garbage. I gave him the benefit of the doubt then, but really that release was such a train wreck that I'm cautious with anything the guy says.

You're right and I think Brad has an uphill battle in the PR department. I think he knows that too and it's something he hopefully will address in the KS. NDA's will not save him if this project is a mess in beta. Not if he's not being transparent anyway..I don't know why...I just think this time around he will get it right and deliver. If he does, VG will have much less of an impact on his legacy. I think he really does care what people think.. That's why I think he'll put together a good team/mmo together. Really looking forward to all this.

I'm sure it will have a relatively limited scope similar to Camelot Unchained, but instead of PvP it will focus on group PvE content.

Probably but then again Beta/Early Release VG was a trainwreck and still my favorite MMO.
