My bet is it'll be some kinda player build-a-thon like EQN. There's no way Brad gets the money and/or people to actually create it w/o player help.So assuming this does get off the ground and get the funding needed we're looking at 4-5 years of development time, so I can look for this around the year 2018 or so? Alright, I'll put it on my radar.
Good for him if he's motivated and wants to earn his rep back. EQ was 15 years ago. All of us give him props for that. The problem is the used car sales routine for his lemon on FOH is fresher in our memory.People are unwilling to give Brad credit for EQ. They want to rewrite history.. It's really not worth arguing with them.. Lol
I don't think Brad wants a pass anyway. I'm betting he wants to earn his rep back. Let's see what he does.
Specifically on the "make EQ again and money," I don't side that way 100 percent either. But I do side with the idea that you have to hit those key notes that made it so awesome, most of which have long been forgotten in the MMO genre. There are certain things in classic EQ I'd remove, like harsh exp hits for certain classes and hell levels (either by design or accidental). Naturally you've got to look at the things done right since EQ, no matter how few they've been. This whole project needs to be a blast from the past with the understanding that you've also got to push forward from where you were.Good for him if he's motivated and wants to earn his rep back. EQ was 15 years ago. All of us give him props for that. The problem is the used car sales routine for his lemon on FOH is fresher in our memory.
My other issue is I see no commentary or insights from Brad regarding how he'd currently make a game. I am not in the rebuild EQ and they will come camp. That was great 15 years ago, but I want the genre to move forward. I don't sense a feeling of passion and the impression I have from him is a guy who mailed it in last time. If I expect him to create a crappy small game copied from DIKU again, then perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised and he'll make something decent.
Everyone here is rooting him, but most of us are realists.
Well said, I agree.Push forward doesnt mean it has to be exactly the same direction that the last decade pushed towards, this game definitely needs to move forward at a a different angle. For example to get me interested McQuaid would have to emphasize the "immersion in a fantasy world" aspect which probably means ignoring may ease of access features that have become expected from MMOs these days.
I agree somewhat. The problems arise when things become too tedious, or the game itself loses out on fun due to that. It's all about balance. I think if he makes what he originally envisioned with Vanguard on a smaller scale with more immersion and some non standard advances, he'd have a great niche game with a lot of potentialPush forward doesnt mean it has to be exactly the same direction that the last decade pushed towards, this game definitely needs to move forward at a a different angle. Too bad he's not a baseball player?people keep saying brad is garbage, but he has only really been involved in 2 projects: everquest and vanguard. that's batting 500. if he was a baseball player, he'd be the greatest of all time.
You are to Brad and WoD what I was to Age of Conan and WAR. After experiencing the hype behind AoC + WAR and experiencing the fail, I'm forever a skeptic until there's critical eyes on the game that confirm/deny all the BS.My life has been a series of MMORPG disappointments.
I'm not crossing my fingers but this definitely will be the last project I will follow (along side with World of Darkness).
If this and WoD failed to deliver; I will finally rest from this torment.
But just think, you'll have 4 years of opening a thread that has nothing to do with the game and arguing the same arguments that we've been arguing about for the last 10+ years. That has to count for something, right? So assuming this does get off the ground and get the funding needed we're looking at 4-5 years of development time, so I can look for this around the year 2018 or so? Alright, I'll put it on my radar.
