It's not insta travel at all. It's exactly the same as asking a druid or wiz for a port to a zone, except you have to have a gem to go there. I don't have a problem with that at all. You seem to have completely missed the part saying you will need another player to actually take you there. This is is their ideas/suggestions subforums. Seriously, insta-travel to any zone via gems.
Planar Banishment (Instantaneous Fast Travel in Pantheon)
Here?s my idea on how to approach teleportation in Pantheon, let me know what you guys think.
As the zones in Pantheon are essentially separate planes existing side by side, it stands to reason that each plane resonates with its own distinct energy that permeates the entire plane, a unique metaphysical composition that keeps it from disintegrating or being absorbed into neighboring planes.
Now what if on each of these planes existed small fragments of this energy in its purest form, perhaps represented as marvelous gemstones. If someone (say a brave adventurer) were to find one of these gemstones, it could provide a link back to that plane that might allow the adventurer to return with the proper magical assistance.
In-Game Application:
In every zone and dungeon there are ultra-rare, no drop gemstones that are unique to that zone. Depending on the zone these gems might drop from random mobs, specific named mobs, be harvested or given as the result of lengthy quests. Characters collect these gems during their adventures, and if they want to return to a specific zone they just equip the required gem and hire a PC spellcaster with the ?Planar Banishment? spell to port them there. The spell itself is generic?it?s the equipped gem that determines where the character is sent.
Advantages to this system:
-Ensures that players spend a significant amount of time in a zone before unlocking teleportation to it (gem drops are very rare)
-Gives a solid reason for players to group up in outdoor zones beyond just grinding xp.
-In the case of dungeons, these gems allow characters to teleport directly to lower levels of the dungeon, skipping time consuming runs that can become monotonous over time (think running through Upper Guk to get to Lower Guk). This also opens up the possibility of huge dungeon complexes consisting of multiple zones.
-Brings back social-based teleportation without requiring casters to memorize dozens of separate teleport spells
-Gem collection can be included as part of an achievement system (collect em all!)
-Fits with the lore of Pantheon
There has been a "going in circle" discussion about Ye olden days since forever, it just moves from thread to thread. Right now it is about BRad and VR because that was (is?) relevant to the old school topic, but if VR drops the project and disbands today that discussion would still continue in either some EQ thread or invade another MMO thread. We can keep going around in circles about this stupid project or you could just sit down, take a deep breathe, and say out loud "I am a moron for believing Brad would produce anything." And then walk away from this. Because if you did, you are. He is the reason vanguard was such shit, microsoft didn't have a DAMN thing to do with it, they had years to get a game in gear and didn't make any head way until the last year when brad finally completely fucked off to cocaine island. You guys are dumb and if you gave money you should feel bad.
Ahhh ok, you guys are right. Sorry bout that. I totally missed that line. It's not insta travel at all. It's exactly the same as asking a druid or wiz for a port to a zone, except you have to have a gem to go there. I don't have a problem with that at all. You seem to have completely missed the part saying you will need another player to actually take you there.
Of course the danger being they would crack under pressure and player whining and just make the gem a clicky travel item, then I would have a problem.
Bro, I love your positivity and willingness to reach out to the VR team in an attempt to bring them back to reality, to try to unfuck PR quicksand they time after time place themselves in, but at this point they either need to start paying you, and give you a clipboard and bluetooth ear piece to follow brad around with and monitor his every word or you need to just call it a day.I jumped on the comment. I certainly don't think I'm trolling Brad. Here is my view of it. Brad saying things like radar with mobs showing and dungeon finders make them look out of touch with the majority of the people they claim to be wanting to reach. It also give a perception that they still don't have a clear direction. It's just bad no matter how you cut it. What possible benefit could having a radar showing mobs add to the game? It's one of those things that should of been laughed at, not actually brought up by the guy looking to make an old school niche game. I'm sure it was a mistake, but it was a bigger mistake even entertaining a feature like that..
I want this to work, but we will never get there giving them passes on stuff like that. The accountability has to be there. Brad cleared it up later and they will post a doc, but he also needs To know his audience. It's been a point of contention with his detractors and he can't continue to feed the perception that he isn't qualified to lead this project. These are silly mistakes.
See this. And maybe I just view it differently but seriously,WHAT HARD EARNED WORK?Can anyone explain to me what work he is referring to? The initial kickstarter showed NOTHING. Just NOTHING. It was something I could have produced in less than a week. There is no working models, no screenshots, no demo, no dungeons, no mobs, shit, not even a zone has yet been produced. There is no art, no financial model, no business plan, and no design doc. I am Brads biggest supporter but he is flat out lying here. And if I'm wrong, Brad, please do correct me. I know you lurk. Can you explain what it is your team has been doing for six months? I'm just beating a dead horse at this point but after six months a team with years of experience in the MMO industry should have produced something. Anything. As of right now, you guys have produced exactlySQUAT. Employers don't pay you ahead of time. You don't get hired and get your check for the month. You work, THEN get paid. Why is this assbackwards? And I'm not UT. I'm a huge, Brad cum guzzling obsessed fan. But I'm not insane either. I can see the forest through the trees here Brad.I don't have a minimum amount... the team is working pro-bono and has been for months now. We want to give them $$ for their hard work as soon as those dollars start coming in (either from KS, or if KS doesn't succeed, from our website which will mirror all of the KS info).
You're complaining that you can opt not to zone out right when you die if there's a cleric in your group/raid who can rez you? I don't see how that's upsetting. Are you serious right now? I just need to step away from the computer at this point.
This is what caught my eye. You're complaining that you can opt not to zone out right when you die if there's a cleric in your group/raid who can rez you? I don't see how that's upsetting.
What I take away from this is that there will be xp loss upon death, but that xp loss is returned upon looting your corpse. However, one may visit a shrine and have their corpse summoned but you take actual xp loss ala classic EQ deaths for said corpse summon. In order to get help from your god you must first find a prayer altar. Then, the gods ask that you give them some of your experience before they will summon your belongings. When this is done they will return your items to you and destroy your corpse and all experience on it.
Yeah, I can understand someone really hard-core old school getting upset over that (I don't have a problem with it, tho). But just hanging out in-zone above your corpse waiting for a rez instead of having to watch Loading, Please Wait... needlessly seems just fine to me. I can't believe someone would get upset over a game mechanic that reduces load time. This is what caught my eye.
It has more to do with the overall picture, which is how the game is trending. Little by little were are starting to get away from what we requested in a new game, and every day they are introducing more and more "new concepts" to the project. Now we are discussing maps, and floating people over corpses, and dungeon finders, and summoning your corpse to alters and fast travel once you have visited a zone etc... This is not the Vision (T) I signed up for.Merlin and Dumar want a carbon copy of Vanilla EQ with absolutely no changes other than graphics. Anything less or more is fail.
I'm confused, isn't this vanilla WoW's death mechanic?Yeah, I can understand someone really hard-core old school getting upset over that (I don't have a problem with it, tho). But just hanging out in-zone above your corpse waiting for a rez instead of having to watch Loading, Please Wait... needlessly seems just fine to me. I can't believe someone would get upset over a game mechanic that reduces load time.
