The radar and dungeon finder stuff was concerning to me also. The mixed messages even more so. I don't want to be that guy that keeps popping up and saying I talked to ("name drop" because I'm cool!?). So I'll just say, I brought all this up to VRI privately and my concerns with not only the idea of it, but also the mixed messages it sends.. Not to mention more ammo for the...Brad can't lead folks. I said it before, no matter how you cut it, that shit hurts them. I think they got the message, they shouldn't of put themselves in the situation to begin with, but we can't change that now.. Hopefully, going forward these things occur less.. I got some answers about why there were mixed messages, but I won't make excuses for them. Bottom line is, they need to point the ship in a positive direction and stay the course, with consistent, non head scratching, PR.
Maybe you can ask Brad why he stopped posting here. Because we are critical? Because we are overly critical?GOOD. The last thing he needs right now is people blowing sunshine up his ass over every little decision. He needs people who are critical of every single decision. He needs people who actually utilize critical thinking skills and have good ideas and can vet some of his decisions because lets face it, some of them are flat out awful.
Except for a small minority here, nearly everyone wants this game to succeed, that is why we are so critical. Its fine Brad may disagree with our ideas or conclusions about how he is going about this, but if he had listened he wouldn't have put out this abortion of a kickstarter without consulting us. I guarantee you if he had done a video conference with a few members of this board, even privately, they could have steered him in the right direction and it would have been funded. He needs to put aside his arrogance and take suggestions not hide out. Yea, RR is a brutal place to post, but for fucks sake, listen to someone. Even if its just Lithose. You could have avoided a ton of pain if you had Brad. Hiding from us isn't helping your cause. You've lost the majority of your supporters on here because of it.

Stoked on:

Death Penalty - I must have missed where they said there would be summoning altars. Actually, the recent email about death penalty says corpse runs with XP loss are in, and players must be rezzed, corpse summoned, or dragged by other PCs. I haven't seen any mention of NPC rez services at all.
Travel as related to player interdependence - I like their idea of 'portal stones' linked to exploration and achievement. If I have cleaned the fuck out of Upper Guk 10+ times I don't wanna have to trudge through it to get to where I'm going in Lower Guk 4 months later, especially if the dungeons are going to be as large as they boast. It's cool you'll need another player to 'banish' you there too.
Large Dungeons with multiple groups - Yes please
Freedom over my items - fuck NO DROP
Very little instance use
6-8 Group Size - I miss this
Zoned world means it will be possible to not have mobs on leashes. Have they said anything about this?
The return of Utility as a class role
No Auto Grouping/Porting Dungeon Finders - I like their concept of meeting stones. Increases convenience but still makes people talk to each other.

...plus probably a lot more I'm forgetting
They have said no in game MOB/GPS radar except for people with the tracking ability. Still kinda bummed that there might be a mini map. I prefer TESO's waypoint compass thing.
Death penalty - here is where they talk about summoning altars:

So what happens if you can?t find anyone to help you and getting back to your corpse is not an option? You can always ask your god but be warned this comes at a heavy cost. The gods are not ones to interfere for free and rarely do they perform a task in the manner you desire. In order to get help from your god you must first find a prayer altar. Then, the gods ask that you give them some of your experience before they will summon your belongings. When this is done they will return your items to you and destroy your corpse and all experience on it.

You know what's annoying about the radar thing. Brad volunteered that shit. The answer was in response to a question about in game maps, nobody was asking shit about radars. He then volunteered that answer and he didn't even clarify that it was specific to certain classes. So then of course someone else needs to go into damage control to fix his comment. Why couldn't he mention that it was limited to certain classes initially?

Hi Brad! As an old EQ player I'm really happy to see what you are doing with Pantheon. My question is - what are you guys planning on doing with in-game maps with Pantheon? Do you think it will be like early EQ where no maps will be available, or maybe something different? I think a cartography trade skill of sorts would be pretty cool. Thanks!

There may be a radar to show you mobs that are around you. And then we'll release continent maps and such like with EQ (paper or cloth). But no spoiler maps. I'm confident others will make spoiler maps and if the player wants to go to that site for a map, that's their decision and fine with us, but we won't put them in-game because many players will not want a map and would rather explore and map themselves.

Luclin had a bad rep with most of us. But looking back on it - and playing in it now as I have the last few weeks - it had a lot of good stuff.

Vex Thal. SSRA. The best itemized dungeons in the history of the genre. Over two dozen zones with no level increase.

Did a /who on live servers at one point last week - 300 people in general and 100 of them were in Luclin.

The main reason it still has a (deservedly) bad reputation is the lore and the bonkers decision to put it on a moon.
You must mean itemized raid zones. luclin was an unfinished mess at release. Even though there was some very unique drops in each zone, the itemization was very random. I remember it as a lagfest with weird, crowded zones , too many mobs, shitty unfinished quests and ALIENS!. It also started the great divide between casuals and raiders. As a casual i remember the low level and mid tier zones being too easy and the end level zones being a bit too hard at first. Yes i know it is supposed to be, but i could feel a change coming. Obviously everything changed in POP, even i became a raider because doing anything without raid gear was difficult. I remember enjoying Luclin as a place to go back to after POP because it was great content, they just had to fix it!

Who's to say he won't be back? He didn't just drop off here, he dropped off everywhere. The thread linked in the last page wasn't all meadows and flowers where he could be around like minded people. I don't think he's avoiding this place.

It's been said before, he was playing with house money when he was making Vanguard. It doesn't matter what decisions were made there, he was always given the benefit of the doubt until it flamed out in the end. Now it's different, he doesn't get to use the 'I made EQ ' card on everyone (except 2800 or so). The lesson here is this was his chance to make people forget about Vanguard and it hasn't, it just reminded people how that project was mismanaged.

I hate no drop as well, BUT without it you need a few things
1) Somewhat limited access (contested, rare etc) to top end gear
2) Very good RMT control or else we will be invaded by the bot's and gold sellers online so any dumb ass can be walking around in flaming staff of uberness for $3.99.

But I agree, no drop takes away a chance at a really robust economy and the ability to make twinks awesome etc. Some of the best times was running around with my lvl 20 monk with TS & Fungi taking on the world!

He'd be an idiot to not snap up that 400k by matching it with his own contribution to the campaign. That is, if he is financially capable of it.

Even after all the bungles and bad decisions, I still want to see this game get funded. I'm very interested in seeing a game with some oldschool philosophies in place, and quite happy to pledge my $45 to the KS as an alpha preorder, whether or not anything comes of it.
If he had initially invested 100k and actually gotten a working product, some actual original art, and a fleshed out design document instead of trolling forums for design tips then his KS probably would be funded.

It's very apparent Brad does not want to use any of his own money for this at all. Evidently he's wiser about where to spend it than the Pantheon KS supporters. I still can't get over the first thing he wants to do with the initial funding is hand it over to his team for all their 'Pro Bono' work. Anyone investing in this really is ignoring the obvious.

Hopefully he'll just bilk some rich guy, and not a bunch of low income gamers.

Make no mistake, I have almost zero faith in VR's ability to deliver on their promises in a timely manner. But, I'm a bit of a gambling man. Nobody should pledge anything more to this KS than they can afford to absolutely lose and not care about, because it's entirely likely that nothing will come of it. For me, that's $45. I think some of these $250+ backers are fucking insane... But they might have the same outlook as me but have way more disposable income.

I like reading a lot of post by a lot of people on this forum. Mainly for entertainment purposes. But lets be realistic, a lot of this forum is so negative and mean spirited I don't blame anyone from turning away. Re hashing the same nerd shit (hey im a nerd too obviously) gets so old.

You are giving them money for all their work up until now. I have zero idea how anyone can justify this, whether it's $250 dollars or $2.50. There is no gambling angle, this is flushing money down the toilet.

There are tons of Indy devs on Steam who have poured their souls into games that could use that 2.50, and you actually are getting something.

I'm gambling on the delivery of an alpha, based on their stated design principles, in 2015/16. That's what my $45 is for - the minute possibility that they can deliver what they say they can. I don't give a fuck about the work they have shown or not so far, I'm betting on what they have said there will be in the future.

Are any of them like pantheon? I'm open to helping Indy Devs. Just point me to a game you think will resonate with me.

Not really... I don't even buy lottery tickets. The odds of winning a lottery, or beating the casino are a lot worse than this KS pledge going to waste IMO. I'm an MMO enthusiast and probably would have bought this game anyway. The only way I will lose my money is if they 100% fail to deliver any playable product. I think that outcome is possible, so that's why my pledge is so low. It's what I can afford to throw down the toilet.
