I find there to be big difference between the way EQ did subtle references to outside the game and the way other games have. Especially in the discussion over Vanguard, where we ended up with shit like an NPC named Slapply the Cool who was summoned with a whistle to play dance music and force nearby players to hip-hop dance. It wasn't subtle. It wasn't creative. It didn't belong. And it was frankly embarrassing on both professional and personal levels.

I like holidays in games when it doesn't feel cheap, whether it's just plastering santa hats on mobs or dangling items like a flying reindeer in front of players to entice them to come back to grind for that one item everyone will regret the rest of the year not getting during that holiday event. I like when things in the game are made part of the game, as crazy as that sounds. And most holiday events are mostly fun because it often seems it's the only time we get dev events anymore.

Keep this shit out of here.
I always liked the Italian Mafia approach to the business: men are fair game, but the wives and chil'n are off limits.

@Merlin @gogjira I like Halloween celebrations (whatever the hell you want to call them) and Christmas celebrations(ditto), I got a little tired of every holiday everywhere being celebrated in MMOs. Less is more, and etc.

Holidays are fine but make an effort to be part of the world. Solstice, days of the dead and so on are good if they have a twist that fits the region/culture they are placed in. They blow if they have santas and so on. I do have to say I did like the darkmoon faire idea, a traveling circus could be in character if they avoid remote controlled toy tanks and crap like that (note, for WoW it fits fine). Bonus points for actually making it travel.

I don't mind it if it's done right.. I'd also like them to create some shit in game that NPC mention, prepare for and eventually happen. Like a dawn of the dead day. Just a whole day of darkness once a year with some bad ass undead mobs flooding the towns and attacking anything in their path!

As I'm feeding my dog this morning the following thought occurred...

I really wish there was a distinction between small combat pets (dogs, cats, birds) which should be tamable/buyable by any class and large combat pets (crocodiles, skeletons, etc) which are only tamable/useable by what we consider "pet" classes in EQ/VG/WoW.

I don't know if there is a way balance them properly, without making small pets almost useless, but I rather like the idea of eveyone being able to get a German Shepard or a Falcon or etc that can aid them in fighting when they're wandering solo. Since non-pet classes don't have any heal pet abilities Bowser would probably die pretty soon. Which may or may not be a bad thing - small pets would end up being a small money sink.

I never liked the non-combat pet idea but I appreciate that there should be a world of difference between the Warrior with a trained dog and a true pet class.

Not a big deal, just bored on a Sunday waiting for the game to start.

I love the holiday stuff b/c it's always a fun break from the normal grind. Yea, I like fluffy fun stuff. I like having a pet monkey follow me around. I like using a petamorph to change my pet into a pink elephant. I like putting a skirt (ok, kilt) on my SK. I like Shard of Love in Eq2. Sometimes you just need a break from the grind and want to do something just for the fun.

One way would be the follower system that Neverwinter or TOR have. But that essentially makes everyone a pet class. Neverwinter then gives you a choice of pets that arent really creatures but a floating stone that provides a specific passive advantage.

Considering that, you could have an item slot for a companion where anyone that wants to can slot an actual pet or maybe even ally npc that vouched to accompany him, and those that dont want that would slot a non-npc upgrade there. Actual pet classes would still have their seperate pet. In essence it's just an item slot kinda like trinkets in early WoW that can provide a wide range of effects, some of them happen to be a dog npc that is like a small dot or knocks over the mob randomly but goes on cooldown if killed. If you dont like that just put another item there that doesnt have an animated npc as part of the effect.

Wooooo mini pets, in game holidays, and cosmetic clothing!

While we're at it, I've always wanted a cock sucking sim mini-game that you could play while LFG. It'd be kinda like gems, but with more cock sucking.

What do you guys think?

I wish they would change the quests, "dungeons" though. Its been the same shit for years now. They haven't even bothered to even change graphics or anything on the quest rewards. But it is fun.

+1

That's a way, way, way better option than what I was thinking. Add in your trinket slot and yeah have a wide variety of trinkets including Max the Dog (small dot) or Avis the Falcon (small% chance of blind)

Quaid's usual shit
What's awesome about Quaid's posts in this thread is that if Pantheon gets funded and released with the classes, levels, Creed's trinket dog and all the stuff he professes to hate, you can bet your life that three years from now he'll be playing the game and posting crap like "just hit level 50 and got the Max the Dog trinket of XyxxKil , fucking awesome! Yo" on his facebook page or wtf social media he uses.

Sorry man. I'm just trying to provide a counterpoint to the neckbeard circle jerk ALREADY happening in this thread.

There's a fucking 10 page discussion every time someone brings up something contrary to your definition of 'immersion', and yet people are justifying in game holidays, vanity clothes, and fucking MINI PETS? You have got to be kidding me.

"Verily, the moon hangs low like a testicle on the horizon."

It's going to be a long three years.

I don't really partake too much of any of the above but have no cares if others do, just FYI.

Quaid has a point, we have pops that sounds like qwerty chasing his own tale, dumar that wants to rock a poison tshirt and relive nostalgia with a mullet and the same 4-5 posters that contrary themselves with their same but own opinions thinking brad will welcome their ideas arms open. But it's a fun amusement indeed reading all the same things over and over again.

No, nobody is kidding you AFAICT.

The issue as always is broadening the appeal of the game while still keeping it old-school, hardcore and group focused.

If putting in some costume options for girls (which doesn't effect the 'hardcore' nature of the game) broadens the appeal, why wouldn't Visionary Realms consider it?

People in general don't seem to mind holidays (well as long as there aren't too many and they have some linkage to the in-game lore - my personal preference is for something like: Yuletide Celebration instead of Christmas and All Hallow's Eve/Day of the Dead instead of Halloween) and some people really like them, so again, if it broadens the appeal, doesn't detract from the 'hardcore' nature of the game (however defined) why not talk about it.

@Tauro we're all still waiting on KS info though technically, discussion of Creed's trinket slot is a discussion of the 'base game' because it would probably have to be in at release to be useful.

Quiad- people justify all kinds of things in MMOs.. Even paying for an alpha;-). Why does this have to be any different...

I do find it intersting that people are complaining about the discussions but aren't offering up anything to move the discussion to a new topic..

Is there something you guys want to talk about??
