I try and do regular shit to give my wife a break. She is a stay at home mom so she feels overwhelmed sometimes, I get that. But like tonight, I take her out, get the sitter, she spends the whole time thinking about the kids. Shit is crazy.

My wife's first mother's day present was a night of my parents looking after the baby so that we could get a whole night to sleep. What does she do? Get frustrated that the baby isn't there.

I'm almost ready to give up... but at least I got some sleep!

I'm just going to try and take care of my daughter all day and let my wife do whatever she wants. I know if I actually took this advice and left for the day, she would spend the day missing our girl.
Looks like my advice was bad. This was our first Mom's day, and she didn't want me taking him out because, yep, she'd miss him. We went to dinner last night, to avoid the Mom's day rush, and I spent today looking after him while she caught up on some stuff she wanted to get done.

Are you guys all new/first time parents? Must be! I fret when I'm out without the baby still, but by the third I think you appreciate the time to yourself a bit more.

My husband treated me to a massage and facial last month while he watched the kids and yeah I worried about the little one, but those few hours were also heaven.

Give it a few years!

Yeah, no shit. I'm more than happy for a break. My wife spends all day with them, gets a night out without them, spends the whole night thinking about and missing them. Our oldest is 4 and we have three, so she is probably just crazy.

my wife gets pissed at me when I don't worry or think about our son as much as she thinks I should. I see my oldest two kids every three to four weeks and it's been this way for four years. Sorry I'm not freaking the Fuck out after not seeing my youngest after being away for 12 hours.

It's pretty overwhelming doing the dishes and vacuuming the carpet.

We've been doing Baby Signing Time with our son since he was about 5 months old (I think the earliest you can expect them to start signing back is 8 months, but we wanted to set the habit of signing with him early). Learning the signs is much less of a pain in the ass than I thought it would be, and the ability to actually have a two way conversation with him before he's able to speak has made life much easier. He just started signing "bear" the other day for the first time.

edit: wife asked to take the video down

Since he's still young his signs aren't perfect, but "bear" is crossing your arms and scratching your shoulders. He also signs for more, nurse (breast feeding), all done, ball, dog, and he's starting to do "dad" and "sleep." He just turned a year old last week.

I was so skeptical about the sign language, but it actually works. I was shocked, I thought it was some bs like those infomercial "teach your baby to read" things.

Hmmm, should pick it up for my little girl. Any suggestions where to start - app or how'd you guys do it?

We started out renting Baby Signing Time Vol 1 on Amazon Video on our PS3. After demonstrating that we could've purchased it 3 times for the amount we've spent renting it the past 6 months I convinced my wife to actually get the series. We just watch it with him (they're about 25 min episodes), and when he shows an interest or looks at us we sign whatever is on the screen being signed back to him. Until recently he just smiled and giggled, but he's been signing back for about 6 weeks now.

There is another series done by the same folks called "Signing Time" (notBabySigning Time). It's a lower production value and pretty complex. I don't recommend it for babies.

On your guys' advice I picked up a DVD for here and my day care has it as part of the curriculum starting at 3-6 month segment of infant room.
