No pacifiers. She's actually on baby Zantac, breastfed 95%, and swaddling worked the first few weeks, but now seem to just piss her off (think we bought nearly every kind on the internet). She does sleep much better on a slight incline, so you may be right and her acid reflux is just monstrously bad. Her pedi followup on that is on Thursday.

Both of my kids hated being swaddled too. They would always work their arms out.

Hopefully the pedi has something to help. Our pediatrician suggested using a probiotic. We tried multiple formulas( wife never produced enough milk) and we ended up using a Gerber good start with the same probiotic that we were giving her. Only problem is that her first poop of the day was elephant grey.

At around 3 months she started to improve. Doesn't grunt all the time now and sleeps much better. We stopped giving the probiotic. We'll probably switch formulas around 5 or 6 months to an organic one made with brown rice syrup instead high fructose corn syrup and dha from eggs instead of acid washed algea.

Got to give you respect from not using pacifiers though. I personally couldn't go with out them.

I'll ask the wife about supplementing with a probiotic formula.

And using a pacifier isn't our decision, it's her. She just tongues it out of her mouth when she realizes there's no food coming out of it. Coming from a family with a strong dental background, and knowing the annoyances of getting a kid off a pacifier is nice, but it would be useful if it could be a tool for chilling her the fuck out.

She's certainly strong willed, and it's very annoying when I hear friends and my siblings with kids of very similar age saying things like "I just lay them down and they sleep through the night" or sleep for more than 3.5 hours.

Also just learned that her arching strongly when being fed formula is a sign of acid reflux. Wife is gonna bring up probiotic formula to the pedi for advice.

The girl unfortunately got a little too much of "me", though apparently I was a bit easier as a baby (minus being colic).

You can buy a separate probiotic. It's like $30 for a small vial. I'd talk to your pedi about it.

You might try Home - WubbaNub for a pacifier. It gives them something to grab on to. It's what we use for both of our kids.

Zantac does some crazy shit to people I would be careful using it. Acid reflux in can often be caused by the Mother's diet. Have you tired a lactation consultant they are really helpful, if you get a non hippy one.

Got a professional consultant through the hospital. Not sure what happened there as I wasn't apart of the conversation. I can't say much for my wife's diet, either. Possibility.

agripa said. For all 3 kids my wife had to cut out a TON of stuff from her diet to help the baby's acid reflux. Milk was a no-go, same with a bunch of other stuff. It was brutal for my wife but was worth the sleep.

I dreamed that our 3 year old had died and let me tell you I was never so happy to wake up on a monday morning.
I think I'd kill myself but then I'd also have to be there for the wife and other kid as support so I'd probably not kill myself and keep on keeping on instead, just dead inside.

Now I'm scared. Really scared.

I've never had a dream that extreme, but one of the bigger nightmares that I remember having when my first son was a few months old was that I dreamed I left him in the car in the garage intending to do something real quick and then forgot about him for like 24 hours. I woke up right as I was bolting out to my garage to get him and it had me fucked up for a couple of days.

My wife and I had our first kiddo back in December after 14 years of marriage. I wasn't sure what to expect really, but I couldn't imagine life without her around now. Here I sit at work just looking forward to getting home to play with her before her bedtime. It's been crazy watching her grow up even in such a short span of time from this:

If the baby is not crying insanely while swaddling - they love it, even if they wiggle out - its exercise and a mental challenge for them to get out - even if they do not really care for the comforting aspect of the tightness - everything a baby does teaches them something, it is amazing.

Babies jerk around so much so that their muscles can form. At the same time nerves are forming so they are constantly sending signals to move. Its super exhausting so thats why swaddling help.

If you do the sushing sound pretty loud near them it will reset the crying immediatly unless they want boob or whatever.

Much easier for women breastfeeding, built in alarm clock. But jesus, that makes me uneasy.

It seems like just yesterday she was 7, then 9 then 12. Those were the years. So much love, she was so much fun to hang out with.

She is now 16, almost 17. Such a terrible self-centered human being. But we still love her so much.

She went to a friends the other night for a sleep over.

The other girls dad just called and sent us pictures he found of them sneaking off in the middle of the night and driving into Portland to a "diversity" party in the ghetto. The pictures were to the police sex trafficking/vice unit in an attempt to identify the men in the photos. We are still trying to find out what happened and how to run damage control.

You try to figure out where you went wrong or slipped up along the path and you come up empty. I look to the cabinet for the tools I long to use to solve this problem but can't. Sigh. Done rambling, sorry.

My daughter is borderline puberty and starting to see a lot of the attitude come out. Stories like that scare the hell out of me.

Kill em with love? Be sincere? Blatant honesty about what being a girl can mean? Starting to see who her friends are shape a lot of what she thinks way more than I ever could at least at the topical surface aspects.

I just remembered what I was like at 16 and realized I am super biased having daughters. My parent's knew shit was going on when I was younger, but ultimately I don't think I would have the same relationship with my parent's today if they had an idea of the type of shit I was doing at that age...I think their "ignorance" was bliss and wanting to not find out just escalated the type of illegal behavior. As long as police never showed up they would just assume I was the typical teenager going to parties using drugs occasionally.

Looking back on it all, I feel like I wanted my parent's to step in with some sincere concern and when they didn't that was carte blanche to go full tilt.

I have a bit more of a clear head this morning. She went to the party, her other 16 y/o friend got shit faced, made out with half the room blew some 26 year old thug. That father is escalating things to whatever extent he can. Our daughters take away is that her friend hangs out with some rough folks and maybe some of the things we told her about men in general are appearing true. We are very happy we convinced her to get the birth control implant she does not have to remember to use or take each day/week. Police were interested in the pictures because some of the men in the pictures are people of interest and now they have information on their whereabouts.

It turned out to be less scary then we were first led to believe. Now we just have to not let her hang out with the other girl again but make it sound like it was her idea.
