If its a virus or x amount of them, why do you give him antibiotics (amoxicillin)? They do nothing against a virus, yet help to spread resistant stems.
the drugs are for the ear infection. Which he has in addition to the viral. (secondary infection).

Kid was uber pissed at me for trying to get him to take it cold haha.

My middle girl had to get tubes put in, for hearing not for ear infections. I always see parents say stuff like "oh it's so horrible when they are sick, worst feeling ever" and I never really felt that way. It is always just whatever, they are sick, take care of them and it will pass. But when she had the surgery for her tubes, that was exactly how I felt. Holy shit was that a traumatic experience for her. Of course she got over it because she's a fucking boss, but for like an entire day she was just attached to me.

Managed to avoid tubes for my son. He got rocephrin (sp?) shots for like 3 days straight but it did the trick and he never got them again after.

Tell me about, when they took her away to put the tubes in, it was the saddest thing you ever saw, with her crying for Mommy as the doctor is taking her away. Fortunately the whole thing took 10 minutes and she was back to us within the half hour.

I didn't want to put tubes in either, but the girl basically had an ongoing ear infection for the better part of 3 months (it would go away for a week with antibiotics, then reoccur when she was off the meds). Not to mention all the accompanying sicknesses (getting stomach flu during Thanksgiving). It did her a world of good when she got them put in.

Both my wife and I had persistent, continual ear infections when we were babies. I had tubes in too, but I don't remember how old I was. Somehow we managed to dodge that bullet with our baby. He's 18 months and still breast feeding.

I'm not sure if that's the entire reason, but I've read that breastfed children more easily flush their inner ears than bottle fed because of all the pressure it takes to get milk from a breast versus a bottle. At his very first checkup (1-2 days?) the doctor noted that his ear canals were tiny (like mine) and that we should watch them very closely given the family proclivity towards ear infections.

Ok, what is everyones solution to stink-ass diapers? Do those odorless diaper disposal pails really work? Up until this point we had just been using a regular small trash can in the kids room and emptying it every day, but that isn't even enough now, almost every single diaper stinks like hell all of a sudden.

I don't want to spend money on some gimmicky odorless disposal bin if it doesn't actually work.

The odorless diaper disposals worked well for us. I only got a whiff of it occasionally when I was changing the bag. I can't ever recall the room smelling with a full bag in there. They are kind of a money grab though (what isn't with a baby?) The refills don't last very long and cost something like $8-10. Not a deal breaker, but when you're already spending money on clothes, formula, diapers, etc it can add up. Simple solution, keep a trash can in the garage or out the back door to deck/patio.

Got a pet? Buy a bulk food that has a snap top lid. Put the diapers in there until the trash is ready to go out.

Diaper Genie.....hardly smell anything unless you got of couple of runny ones in there

This is what we have and it's not that great, especially when you fill it with poop diapers and don't empty it everyday... which defeats the purpose of even having it.

regarding cloth diapers, we had one couple we were friends with use them for about 6 months then they got tired of the hassle and went to regular diapers.

Cloth diapers are a great tool to get your kid to use the bathroom for his/her business when they are allready able to walk (so about 3rd year i assume).
Wait till the summer and its warm outside and let your kid play wearing cloth diapers and after some minutes walking around in wet diapers it will want to get it changed / learn to use the wc to get out of that diapers.

Kiddo is on the mend - totally expecting virus number 4 by next Tuesday. Just in time for the 4 month appointment a week from today and more shots.

My poor husband is going to field that evening time...(though to be fair I fielded the last one)....work awarded me the employee of the year award and I have to go to the fucking board of trustees dinner that night.

(In other news I got the dream job today. I will be giving notice to my current employer 2 December).

Wait what, you get an employee of the year award only to quit the job next month for a better one?
Thats classy.

Haha I thought the same thing but you can't fault her for taking a better opportunity.
I don't fault her either but you got to admit, from the employer point of view that's pretty messed up. Especially since she just recently was on leave from having the baby.

no one worth caring about at my current company will be surprised. The VP I support has known this has been in the works for almost a year.

The company net made money on me from just one phone call I made. And that's not counting anything else I did in 4 years...and I am overhead, not direct charge.

My new boss onboarded two weeks before I went out on leave. He is a great guy and I do feel bad for him but he won't even be surprised. He thinks my salary is a joke too. I told a different VP who works for my boss boss (Cfo) to not let my boss expend political capital in trying to right size mt salary. That VP, knowing I was leaving said he disagreed with that - my boss had to do what he though was right...but out of respect for me he would stop it before it became a detriment.

I gave them more than everything. The people who won't understand are the primary problem. Everyone else will be happy for me and both of those VPs know where I am headed and told the CEO that he was lucky to have me and an idiot if he didn't hire me (I found this out from CEO yesterday).

Judge away. Shrug.

In other news....i think 4 month sleep regression started last night. We haven't had a night that bad since the first week he was home. Ugh.

Oh, agreed. That bridge has been burnt to the ground and the ashes crapped all over.
