Networks fiend for younger viewers and that article mentions that P&R had the youngest audience of the networks and had the best hipness measurement thing.

"It was the third-most-upscale primetime series on the Big 4 in 18-49 living. It was also the youngest show on ABC, CBS or NBC last season, with a median age for its audience of 41.7."

Whatever the fuck all that means.

Why the fuck even renew it? It's already in syndication...
Because between syndication, streaming rights, and DVD sales, a lot of money in television is now madeaftera show goes off the air. NBC may make a lot of stupid decisions, but I think bringing a show back for a final, closing season isn't one of them and will pay off for them in the long run. It allows them to package the show as "complete" rather than just having it end abruptly, which - given how many choices we have available to us now at any time - could dissuade people from getting into it. In my opinion, this might be the one area where NBC is ahead of the curve.

Did you watch last season? It had a huge time jump ending that would have made a perfect series ender. Intentionally because they didn't know if they'd be back. But NBC renewed it, and now appears to be regretting that decision and just wants to burn off the episodes as fast as possible.

What you are saying isn't stupid, but in this one specific case it doesn't hold much water. They had a complete series start to finish with a great ending.

November, February, and May are the Nielsen sweeps periods so NBC airing a shitload of P&R during that time actually signals strong confidence in the show, basically they want to use it to say their network dominates those time slots. Whether that'll happen or not of course is up in the air.

Fun thing: I recently got invited to be part of the nielsen panel, they sent me $25 and a diary to fill out with my viewing habits. I kept the $25 and threw out the diary, since I don't think "torrented this show and watched it 6 months later" is something I can fit in the tiny spaces they gave. For a brief shining moment I had the power to influence the TV landscape, but then I realized I was too lazy to give a shit.

The showrunner knewthey were doing to be renewedbeforethey came up with the time jump:

We had a meeting with NBC to talk about the future of the show, and we were given really every assurance that we would have another season. So at that point we were like, "Well, we can either radically reconceive all of these big story moves that we're doing to try to leave things more open-ended, or we can just figure out a way to take everything that we've got - that we like - and throw a crazy wrench into the works." And then out of that brainstorming session came the idea that we would jump into the future - quite literally into the future - and I just thought that was more interesting.
According to him, that episode was never intended to serve as a series finale. It came about more because they wrote themselves into a corner with a lot of storylines. And, I think the fact that he said this before NBC officially announced the show's renewal sort of lends some credence to what he says.

It means only dead people watch the other shows.

Well I'll be damned, could have sworn the opposite came out before. Your idea definitely has merit then.

You done goofed. You fill that out, and they know you're good peeps and may eventually give your household a full blown gig for a couple years.

This is back, is anyone else watching it? I really enjoyed the first two episodes, and I like the change in dynamic between Ron and Leslie.

Also, am I crazy, or is the house that Andy and April bought the same one Don Draper grew up in? That also reminds me, lol at another appearance from stupid John Hamm.

I thought the exact same thing as I was watching, but haven't confirmed it yet.

EDIT: They are not. They do look a bit alike, but they are definitely not the same.

Yeah that was amazing. Especially for anyone that's heard Paul F Tompkins playing him on Comedy Bang Bang.

I did not like episodes 3 and 4. I'm starting to rethink my shit talking of NBC when they were going to cancel it. Going out on top is always better than Flanderizing all your characters.
