Are you using 3-4 skills regularly to clear and progress?

Wanting people to use more buttons is something that sounds good until you remember that the reason people like less buttons is because it feels better to play. This then compounds as playtime increases.

edit - and multiplies again if you're actually trying to melee

If they purposefully held back completed content than this year seems reasonable but if the beta is essentially everything they've done up until now it's hard to see how they'd make it out in 2025 with a product that met their standards.
It sounds like Act 4 and a few classes are already done from trailers they released and the fact that the Act 4 map is out there (It's Kingsmarch and Karui islands).

So - having finished campaign now I can offer the following:

Cruel seems like it should be a higher difficulty spike.

Act 3 maps are way too big. Especially when you are practically forced to go through some of them twice or more ( I'm looking at you Drowned City ). This might be artificially padded to make up for lack of act4 ? It still sucks.

The most dangerous thing in the game is not bosses, affixes, chaos or modifiers - it's the color palette. It looks great, but 95% of my deaths are to practically invisible ground effects that are covered up by 5 different aoe explosions while shit twitches randomly all over the screen.* Half the the time there aren't even any mobs. I am sorry if it ruins your artistic vision, but this shit needs to be clearly visible under all circumstances.

*Less is more is a general criticism I think I'd make of the game - having mobs that charge, rush, jump, teleport, blink, backflip, warp speed-run is fine, but there are tooooo many of them. I kind of want to be able to see what's happening without developing epilepsy.

Overall pretty fun though.

Definitely should've been utilizing trade more. Figure I can probably buy something for 1 exalt and sell it easily. Basically rent it for leveling.

Picked up a new bow and I'm fucking flying through Act 5. Like, the damage increase is insane, even where I had a really good bow to begin with.

Will probably upgrade a few more pieces for 1 exalt and sell em off in a day or two.
Ya now that the game has been out for a bit, the set of gear you can get with even just like 10 ex is pretty bonkers if you shop wisely.

Since Exalts drop more often I wasted a bunch, now I find out it's the new Chaos and decent gear is 1 EX. FML.

IRL friends of friends who have been playing POE1 for years have been arguing that currency/item drop rates are fine, because of their experience and the trade forums are working so well for them. That there are even such a thing as out-of-game trade forums shows that the drop rates are insufficient and GGG is using the crutch of "emergent interaction" or some such bullshit to avoid fixing it. Any time you have to leave the game to get items that make or break gameplay that players rely upon, its bad design in one or more, probably multiple places in your game economy/crafting systems. I was thinking that they were trying to test the white item->magic->rare item-> add affixes path for crafting but the drop rates in the campaign without increased rarity are so parsimonious that its just mind boggling. You are just effectively relying on the power of people who have made it to maps who have what seem like much better or at least adequate currency drop rates to add liquidity and set prices for the whole market. I have had a number of these arguments thrown my way: "I completed the campaign with a mediocre load out, why can't everyone else?" : Any system designed so a top 1% non melee player who knew how to use the trading system but didn't have top level gear because there was no one finished with the campaign yet is anecdata and again poor design. Folks making it work based on the few rares that drop and 10 years playing POE1 is not an example of a working system, quite the contrary. And how does that help SSF folks? What kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape must that be, trying to get through Cruel with just what you find on Merchants and drops.

Game is good to great, and when its done may even best in genre; gameplay is fun and animations are stunning. I still feel like Blizzard/Diablo has the slight edge here but its really an apple and oranges comparison on that front. Blizzard isn't trying to have a Souls-like Diablo game but it just feels a scintilla more responsive to me, engine wise. I replaced my mouse and my keyboard (Razor and Roccat, respectively) just to be sure they weren't getting old.

Now I have concerns that GGG has holes in their design philosophy that they are content to leave broken and do not intend to fix. The more I play, the more I find things with the UI, storage/stash space/inventory that are industry standard but missing in POE2, and when I ask my resident POE1 veterans about it, they can't seem to grok why its even an issue
-no way to tell item rarity without mousing over,
-Items should have level of transparency when placing in stash,
-no auto optimize/empty space removal in stash tabs,
-can't organize tabs via vertical menu on right in stash, among others;

at least I finally found option to always show sockets, which was a maddening search before I discovered it while looking through the options for something else.

TLDR: Game is super good, I hope GGG is fully intent on improving it more still, and resolving/addressing crafting/itemization issues before full launch.

retarded UI design example number 1

there is no hotkey or any other way to access list of all skill/support gems other than using uncut skill/support gems. Who the fuck thought, yeah this is the way. How fucking hard would it have been to have it under Ctrl+G or Alt+G. Also the icons are too big, they could have double the amount of skill you could see without scrolling.

So I guess if you aren't big into trading shit and faggot trading sites you aren't gonna have a great time in this game. I thought I was buying an ARPG not GGG's stock market faggotry.

Yeah they definitely need some tweaks to drops to increase the chances of good shit for your char / build. If I didnt luck out finding a few divines I would have fucked myself over by using the couple exalts I found through the campaign.

(Which is what they said they wanted us to do). Trading is 1000000x more efficient than the RNG of using the damn orbs.

I don't mind an auction house but why does it have to be such an aids secondary site? It's only "emergent" because the game doesn't support it.

One thing that needs to change is the character name thing. Why the fuck not just give an account name or numeric tag. It's fucking awful.
It's funny because if you log into your account on the POE site you do have a numeric tag.

It's not worth complaining about it that much, other than making GGG aware.

PoE 1 has a functional in game trade market, not porting it over means they are working on a new version for full release. Probably using gold instead of orb barter.

They should announce that this is the case though.

Anyway I can whisper someone for the unique frost staff tonight without much effort I'm sure. If only I did it last week! xD

There's always SSF and there's no tradig at all. The currency exchange that went in during the settlers league (last/current) of PoE is light years ahead of what it used to be, nothing but online. I made more currency and had more handy since I normally vary the stuff I do I could get rid of small quantities of stuff instead of running them over and over to allow me to sell in bulk which worked better online than selling 1 or 2 items as far as currency stuff was concerned.
