Why isnt there life in the tree Chris? Can you point to a design choice that would necessitate that? Can you elaborate on what you think led to that design decision? This is this shit im talking about being super duper concerning.
Did you not play PoE 1 when most builds stacked life? It sucked.

I don't think they fully fixed it, Energy Sheild needed the same treatment and for enemies do less burst damage/gear give more life/sheild.

You can get life from the tree though. There are a few nodes and strength give life with viable builds that stack it and even double the life bonus.

"Concerning" though? Seems a bit much.

The only concerning thing about taking off life nodes was removing them but leaving ES essentially the same as PoE1

Right, Fogel gets it, ES is still there for whatever reason. Not just a little ES....a LOT of ES + Grim Harvest so its obviously intended for ES to scale so high. So then why is Life gone? Gear already has far more Life on it then PoE , its the tree nodes that scale it. If the intent for warrior is to just play strength stack then thats a fail. If ES needs to come down but then you also reduce damage then nothing is threatening cause its not just ES. Then you add Evasion + Acrobatics into the mix and you get immortal characters. So damage is supposed to be high. But then warrior get shafted cause it cant really do ES or Acrobatics.

And the problem is IDK which its supposed to be. Is mapping supposed to be cArn's Titan as a baseline or is baseline closer to Spark? They were asked and they cant answer. If at this point in a game dev you cant determine the speed you expect players to go then its a real problem. I'd say its supposed to be slow but the mobs are PoE turbo speed so I guess baseline is Spark? Then how the fuck did warrior get released as is?

So yes its "Concerning" its concerning because they are now pulling away resources form a game that does make money into a potential one that needs way more work then "Remove ES from Tree and reduce burst" That Q&A they did showed that fundamentally they have a vision for a game that wasn't implemented to the EA they released and they are unsure where to go. "Rarity is fine! it doesn't increase Quant, but oh well I guess it does cause it changes gold into currency and currency into actual good currency so quant goes up. Ohhhhhhhhh. I guess we should have just asked the PoE team that removed that shit years ago cause it made the game a giant mess"

Again, the game is fine. It is no PoE, but its fine. It sucks that the actual good game gets the shaft for this, but all I can do is not buy MTX until the next PoE league comes out.

Path of Exile 2 is a game at odds with itself.

Yep. In a game where they hoped to make thorns an actual build they hide player power via Ascendancy behind an honor bar, or they wanted slow gameplay but made maps the size of an act and a requirement to kill rares that requires backtracking. Gotta pick fellas.

Saw this on reddit, its the perfect summation of all my problems with this game

I might be done until they bring out the big balance patch. Also mapping is just retarded. It feels like there's no direction, no sense of accomplishment. Fuck I miss heist

people don't like heist?

Hesit is okay. I like the rare bases and the replica items and gems, and the blueprints are fun from a min maxing perspective. My issue is they never fundamentally solved the issue that unless you ultra zoomed it was horribly inefficient. Its a problem I have with Delve still, I'd rather just buy fossils from that dude that goes to 10k depth every league then to do it myself while I boss killed or scarab lorded over the atlas.

The league itself was fun for me though cause you could do that stupid Poet Pen + Arc + Choir crit build and you auto teleported all over the place clearing everything. That build was always a good in game memory for me.

I did more Heist in Kalguur than I have ever done in any league. What made it enjoyable was that it dropped nearly zero gold thus fewer people were doing it thus it was just a money printer. Even the bad replica uniques usually had solid disenchant value. Without some "and the rewards were insane this league because X" thing operating in the background I don't find the general activity/gameplay loop to be fun.

Just did a Iron Citadel with +8 on Boss tree. Had 680% Waypoint drops. Phased him easy so he did not even got to do the Ice shit.

I think I have a big reason why maps in POE 2 feels so lackluster compared to POE: the lack of a 'collection' mentality or goal.

In POE 1, you get to maps and you have this empty Atlas. You think to yourself, OK, I just have to fill this out by finding and completing all of these maps... cool, let's get started! And for each one you complete, and with the bonus goals of completing them white then blue then yellow then red, it gives you a clear sense of progression. It also gives you a clear idea of what you need to get to accomplish your goals. Once you've completed the atlas, then beaten the conqueror's/guardians, you can fight the end game bosses and get some cool stuff. Potentially.

It's easy to understand, incremental progression with a clear goal... beautifully done GGG.

In POE2 you get none of that. The only thing close is the quests you get to complete the various tiers, but that's it. Do you go in one direction? Do you make a spiral pattern? Do you just pick a random direction? Why do any of it at all? This last question is a little unfair, as all the content isn't there yet that might answer this question, but then again it's totally fair because EA should be a place where questions like this get asked and an answer is hopefully forthcoming AND satisfying.

Now, it could be said that POE2's maps system is more like delve in POE. OK, fair enough, but again it kind of breaks down in comparison. Delve has a clear goal: go down as far as you can, and the farther you go the harder things get, and there's practically no end to it. (I know there is now, but for most of POE's history there was effectively no end to delve). What's the clear goal of POE2's maps compared to that? There isn't one. It doesn't say have a goal of clearing as much of the fog as you can, or maybe uncovering X amount of a single type of map, as another example. There's finding the citadel's, and they're improving that, but other than that what do we have as a goal for the Atlas?

I'm not saying all is lost here, as they could easily add another type(s) of 'landmark' for lack of a better term that you need to try to hunt down in the map area besides citadels. But making it all RNG generated is going to most likely feel bad in implementation. IMO at least.

They could also add some extra threatening biomes that you need to path around if you're too weak or path to if you if you're strong enough to tackle the threat that lives there. Something like that would be better than yet another random desert/forest/coastal biome spawning in again. There IS potential here, but it needs a LOT of work to make it half as compelling as POE1's systems. I also think it needs more structure to hold it together than a pure RNG/procedurally generated landscape that could be bricked if the stars align just right.

I think they'll get there eventually, but it's always a bit concerning to see a company like GGG make so many unforced errors that they've previously solved and having to retread so much ground.

I never really like PoE1s mapping but it's mainly because I did not understand it properly I think. I usally quit once I completed the Atlas (115/115) because I suck and it got to hard after that with the Bosses etc.

That said, the current PoE 2 Atlas is lackluster as hell. I dont think I really like the "endless" part of it at all, feels like it will get annoying to keep track of and my OCD does not like maps that are not completed.

They did mention more "tutorial bosses" during the progress of maps but they need something else to add after that. Would be nice if they had some sort of Roadmap for what they are aiming for but I guess they dont really know themselves as they panic made this current version.

I need 1 Spirit, hah. Want to run Overwhelming Presence but requires 30 reserve. Don't really want to break the bank trying to make up +1.

View attachment 569241
don't know what your running to get 149.
100 base+scepter would be 200..

but in the case thats like 30 or 60base while in campaign, +scepter. quality on scepters increases the 100 spirit implicit.

check to make sure whatever you are running doesn't reduce reservation with quality. (blasphemy for example)
