Most of them aren't ready yet. I also thought that everything they currently sell would be up there and it'd just be old retired stuff but nope. It seems like almost everything isn't actually available yet.

I thought they also did curses and dots, isn't one of their ascendancy trees not minion related?

It needs to say this when buying them then. It's crazy that I just spent my tokens on something that may not released until I get tired and move on to something else eventually.

I presume you can make a monster blood mage doing chaos damage like that.

Maybe eventually. But basically all but two spells in the first two tiers have been all minions. And those two spells are shitty dots that take ages to do anything. One, contagion, is "okay" for packs of mobs, but does literally nothing to bosses (think it ticks like 6 damage?). There aren't really enough support gems to make anything worthwhile in the first act.

Which is why it was somehow better to just buy a weapon with a completely different class's spell on it to actually do anything productive.

And then I sit there wondering why I'm not just playing that class instead.

Welp, definitely like the sorc over the warrior. Going frost orb through firewall, frost bomb for big badaboom, and stacking freeze ramp.

I dislike how slow you are in general, it is somewhat tedious to wander around, especially the first time you scope out an entire area just to make sure you aren't missing something.

It seems like GGG implemented action cancelling a little too well, because firewall has just enough cast time that about half the time I end up not finishing casting because I've already hit frost orb. Is just a pacing thing, but annoying at the moment.

Gear is pretty fucking meh, as it should be in Act 1, but you take so long in the Act that progression is definitely subtly unsatisfying.

I will say that combat, overall, feels better than I expected it to at the slower pace.

But fuck those poison shooting crabs right in their carapace. There's a mob that doesn't fight at a slow pace.

Also, am I crazy or can you not roll through mobs. Annoying as fuck.

I'm a bit into act 2 on my sorc, and I hated frost bolt. I started out just spamming ice nova and eventually transitioned into orb of storms + spark and then into double orb of storms + Arc.

The boss fight philosophy, especially in just a normal campaign, is going to ruin the game for the majority of players, especially players expecting an ARPG.

This is a Souls Lite. Complete with 1 chance fights and "hang-time" boss mechanics. You cannot stop moving, there are no "unload" phases, you have to use dodge roll often, and it's just plain not fun when I want to play an ARPG.

I'm almost through Act 2 and even overleveling the fights its simply not fun.

Spark through Fire Wall at a chokepoint is my happy place. Totally recognize that it is not optimal gaming but it is fun, and right now that's what I prefer.

Thats what I'm doing at the moment as well and my staff raises all fire damage by 40%

I'm 100% frost. My weapon is the freezing shards, and I tend to kite around while I ice nova, drop frost bomb on stationary / casters / frozen stuff and frost orb at things I don't want to get close to, or the things I'm kiting, and cast ice nova on the orb to nova stuff at range. It's really effective and feels good once you've got it going. I should mess w/ firewall stuff too, but I basically an focused on those 3 abilities and the weapon skill at this point.

Chain gem on freezing shards wrecks stuff, and once you have the unleash gem on ice nova it does so much more. Those are the 2 gems I'd want to get first.

Edit, yeah my staff is partly why I went all frost as well.

Once you know what you're doing PoE is pretty chill. It's a game I can plow audiobooks during while on the grind. This game is very, very not chill. Getting that act one boss down along with a couple semi-rough bits previously and I was pretty cooked mentally. PoE is a game always coaxing me to do a little more, grind a little more, run one more map do one more invite. Looking forward to closing the client after picking up a boss's loot is the opposite of PoE for me. So far this feels like an attempt by GGG to prove to us that we actually liked Ruthless difficulty all along despite constantly bitching about it taking up dev time and space on the patch notes.

Oh, and if you die after a boss / miniboss dies and has dropped its loot.... the loot is gone! Because fuck you!

Surprisingly I liked the fact that the projectile is slow, it matches the overall pace of the fighting so far.

Oh and I've been doing mostly defensive passives, with energy shield and mana on tree, as I work my way north to all the cold damage and freeze ramp nodes at the top. Damage does not seem too bad having not taken a single damage node yet; the gem leveling has dealt with it sufficiently so far.

And not pre-planning a build at all, I am just taking all int on attribute nodes, because I have no idea what I will need for dex or str later. I find that a little disconcerting.

Finished Act 1/all quests and into Act 2 on monk with 2 deaths. Glad I didn't start off on HC.

Game is really fun and have no idea what I'm doing =D
