This fight is prior to Leap Slam being available. It is barely past where you can get your first lvl 3 gem and even have access to Shockwave Totem. Even if you have all that, though, there is *literally* no downtime from boss attacks to allow an attack. That is just bad design when you are going for this type of punishing game play. And that is even in the first phase of the fight, as it gets more intense the only time you are even able to reliably get close to him is when he rushes in with 5 quick attacks before immediately going into the next attack animation. I actually think the fight has great mechanics, but it is not properly tuned for all classes and their abilities at that point in the game.
I will have to watch a video to remember which fight it was, but even before Leap slam I was able to find what attacks I could take the chip damage to get in stun attacks and then would get 2 full rolling attacks once they were stunned.

Idk, could have just gotten lucky with gear drops and overleveled a bit but not intentionally, I just have been taking my time and full clearing, for the most part I'm usually around 1 level over the monster level of that area.

Edit: I also had a decent amount of life regen on gear so I'm sure that helped, too.

Going from 0 life regen to even like 2 or 3 is such a monumental difference in act 1. It is crazy.

Almost at maps, started thinking to myself..."Hey wheres the 3rd ascendancy trial at, I should ask around"

Apparently its a fucking drop. Cause everyone LOVED Uber lab requiring RNG from maps they tripled down on it. Oh and its a 3 floor Sanctum for an additional swift kick to the nuts, cause its a super fun mechanic to run around traps and mobs like a tool.

Hey GGG, wake the fuck up. Stop trying to make me hate your fucking game and make me want to spend $500 on cosmetic for it you retards.

Watching mapping group play I have the impression that end game exp rates are on the ruthless side of things.

Has anyone tried grouping yet? Just doing a couple bosses in the campaign with another person feels much better because the gameplay is so slow that adding people feels worth it? There's so many combo type abilities I feel that benefit group synergy (break, freeze, immobilzing etc etc).

Talking about loot, I mentioned it eariler I got a rare chest piece in act one that wasn't half bad for my build. Cicked on a boulder, not a mob drop lol.

Just bait cause then I started clicking on more of them.

Anyone else appreciating varied zone layouts? I'm at the end of Act 2.

Some are wide open, some are narrow corridors, some are a mix. Seems better than PoE 1.

All of D4 felt the same, especially the open world.

Guess I'll chalk that up as yet another reason to play SRS witch. Third ascendancy is superfluous at best, fourth is basically pointless (like, "take two small nodes" level of pointless).

Testing Dual Wield as Warrior, and I just smoked The King of the Mists. Stuns stack super fast. I think base DPS drops, but Boneshatter just takes out huge groups, and is nice on the bosses too. Feels better than 2H as well; not nearly as clunky. I guess we'll se how it feels in a couple levels. DW>2H>-SB

Funnily enough, Sanctum is my least favorite mechanic in the last couple of years, seconded closely by Ultimatum. And they are both integral to this new game. Who coulda figured.

So much so that I would just vendor all the Forbidden Tomes I had drop in the last league, couldn't even be bothered to sell them in bulk.

I was regularly running Righteous Fire at the time of Sanctum league, so any mechanic that needed stand-off was antithetical to that gameplay. Had to switch to EA Totem that, by the by, became my new go to for a couple of leagues.

Pretty idiotic choices, if you ask me.

I bet if there are available statistics on mechanics run, Ultimatum and Sanctum would come in last. But let's make THAT progression gameplay in PoE2!!!!!

Edit - I could be speaking out of my ass on Ultimatum, just thought I read it a couple of times that it is in.

Those are just the implicit modifiers (always active on that type of item so a Gold Amulet always has increase rarity of items found) The +skill is probably an explicit affix.
yeah. level 30+ I started noticing new enchants I hadn't seen before.

+spirit on a chest. "baroness"
and +presence area on a scepter.

can you just NOT do these with self damage builds? yeah, I don't know why they would put in something that prioritizes certain builds like that. If I ain't dead. the run is not over.

Ulti was farmed cause you could get Ulti runs that would reward shit like a Mageblood but it wasn't anyhting I spec'd my maps into. The boss was more annoying then anything and farming up boss maps with the rewards people wanted was the ultimate RNG.

So it seems like items are in fact the key. Spent some time (and way too much currency and gold) on getting some better stuff, and the act 2 boss was pretty well handled. Sadly, after I got to act 3, I noticed that there was a slightly better version of my ice staff already in the guild stash. Swapped it out for the one I made, but I should really make a habit of checking that thing. Especially since it seems like people are just putting their old stuff in there and you can just gear up fast, and put your old stuff in there for the next guy.

It also appears that maybe the loot problems are solved in act 3? Seem to be at the very least getting tons of magic drops. But I've also had a few rares in not very much exploring. Could just be a fluke though.

Reddit has some complaining about it, too, but holy shit at these giant maps. I just went looking for the 3 jungle POI's (I guess I'll call them that) and that map is HUUUUUUGE. And speaking of that, talk about a rage inducing encounter with that giant gorilla guy. I've never played a souls game, but I think that's what it's like? Maybe my stats just suck, but I had to do it as a 100% clean fight, cause everything one shot me.

Finally getting to play some. I did several of the closed tests but they were vertical slices and never a fresh start from level 1 in the campaign. A bit disappointed that a lot of the pretty unanimously criticized decisions for melee just haven't changed at all:

1. If you're gonna make the game a lot more precise and 'souls-like' or whatever, you can't also then keep accuracy as a stat/mechanic for attacks. Having to care so much about positioning and directions of attack to then have attacks just miss because you only have an 85% hit chance is beyond retarded. Just an ancient dogshit mechanic left over from D2. I suspect a lot of the 'hit detection' complaints are just this mechanic cucking people.

2. '60% of base attack speed' - whoever came up with this as a thing needs to be kicked in the balls. Almost everyones issue with melee in the closed tests stemmed from this fuckin problem of making skills feel like garbage because you have a 2.5 second windup on the goddamn thing, can get stunned out of it, miss based solely on directional issues, or then just miss because lol accuracy exists. This was a problem in poe1 as well, and it's really beyond me why they insist on keeping it around.

3. Basic attack is your best DPS. They talked a lot a while ago about how the strike skills in poe1 were kinda boring and entirely pointless, and they aren't really *wrong*, but their current solution of just removing almost all of them and wanting warrior to just use the default attack a bunch is kinda just worse. Sure heavy strike/double strike/whatever from poe1 weren't exactly mechanically interesting, but they were for sure more interesting than the best single target damage option being just hold right mouse button like we're playing a fucking frenzy barb from D2.

4. Recovery options in the under level 40ish game. This has been a huge issue since the very first closed tests, and has actually really only gotten worse. You just cannot get any kind of functional regen or leech set up until you're basically at the endgame, and it makes playing a melee character that has to use 2.5 second windup attacks an absolute slog. It's something like 14-ish levels before you could potentially even click a single passive that gives any amount of regen at all, so you just constantly are running around at 75% health because you have to safe flasks in case you hit a magic/rare pack, and there's just no real recourse for it other than to suffer through it until you're level 45 and get leech set up.

Oh no.

I've started Act 3 and done one single zone of it. This place is embarrassing Blizzard, it's what Vessel of Hatred should have been.

I somehow feel more nostalgia for Alva from PoE 1 than Ormus from Diablo 2. Also this jungle has flayers and they are full size!

So only 1 chance to kill a boss? I can't kill any a boss on the 1st try unless I'm super broken so I don't have to do the mechanics lol.

Also how bad is the dodge stuff game. Cause them souls games are impossible.
