Spectral throw is fun as fuck. It's also pretty much guaranteed to be nerfed once they milk the "cool new ability" factor

I'm going to try it with Flicker Strike, summon a lot of boomerangs then teleport around so that they never reach you and instead slam into opponents.

Since they accelerate over time they'll definitely reach you. I don't know about being nerfed, I've played spectral a bit and I don't feel it's really much better than archer builds. I guess you can get better passives with the weapon specific or 2H nodes, or you can use a shield if you want so that's a plus, but the coverage seems a lot worse than split+chain or LA+chain, even with LMP. It sure is good but I don't feel it's as OP as people make it out to be.

The most nerf-worthy factor of the new class isn't starting with spectral throw, but the fact that there are like a dozen health nodes right near the starting position of the skill tree.

Holy hell, I'm like lvl 10 on hardcore with zero twink gear and almost 500HP. Shit's crazy

That's an unrelated thing though, and to be honest after making a couple of scions, I'm not sure it's worth it. Sure you can frontload a fuckton of health right away, but your stats are shit so you can't equip all that much or lvl your gems, so you need to stop adding health quickly and go pickup stats, which are fairly far in efficient nodes so it's mostly filler 10 nodes on the way to something else. You don't really need all that health right away and other starting locations can generally find a good amount of health in the first 10-15levels too without sacrificing everything else for it. The main advantage of the build is how it lets you pick 2 opposite sides of the tree without too much loss, however if you focus in one area, it's not that good, especially if that area isn't marauder/templar where the health is located.

I've been making builds a lot and a lot of them around the bottom and right side of the build, melee shit so you want duellist/ranger stuff, or trapper so you want ranger or shadow area, wanna check acro too so that. In every cases, you can start duellist, witch or ranger and get a stronger build right away and eventually they'll just be the same, so Scion is a worse choice. The ranger start is especially strong imo, since it combines both health and evasion, and exits right away into massively efficient nodes(all the larger nodes that gives like +20stats and 2 other things) and good life nodes. There's no wasted stats and you get everything right away, including a decent boost of dmg if you want. The witch start with the change to the flask nodes has very good value if you're gonna need mana quickly, you get out of the starting area quickly by picking flask efficiency nodes(which are good for every build almost and can later be respeced out if CI or something) then hit that large fitness node for health and the 30dex 50str gives you all the stats you need.

I feel the Scion start is so so. It feels really nice to have super high health right away and if you exit via the health regen path instead, you're literally unkillable until brutus and even he doesn't do fuckshit, but at the same time you can only really use attacks efficiently(since they don't need to be lvled) and you won't do too much dmg until you start investing into other shit. The ranger start is so much better imo, it is by far the best, and Duellist might be second. Witch and Scion I'd put together, they're good if you know exactly what you wanna do but they're more situational imo. Marauder and Templar are fairly outdated but still work out fine, and I never liked Shadow start or area in general, it's a great 30-60 area to grab damage in but starting these is like so annoying with how little health there is.

Question...did the new items from that last league in beta(was it Nemesis?) make it into release? Like the combo necklaces(str and int, int and dex, etc).

Yeah they're now part of the normal drop table. It's likely the double resist rings from this season will also be added. As for the league specific unique, I'm not entirely sure they were added, maybe.

I'd wager there are better classes for a spectral thrower than the scion. Probably dualist.

Has anyone tried discharger after the passive tree change? I thought it was dead, and it seems like the important keystones are now even further apart, but there's a new keystone that 50% of nonfire damage converts to fire, which seems like it could revive burning dischargers. The single-cooldown enduring cry is still rough though

Direct discharge is probably shit, however the Cast on crit discharge build look broken as fuck. Get a dagger build with a solid crit rate, cast on crit+discharge, a decent attack like spectral, lightning strike or possibly cyclone if you're feeling adventurous, then a volls, and you can spam power discharge super quickly. Can do it with frenzy too and the uniques and spam frenzy discharge instead. Could possibly do it with both not sure how the build would hold out. Potentially endurance on melee stun+good hammer with a bunch of stun treshold nodes/gear could do fire discharge too, not sure. Groundslam fire discharge or some shit.

The result is Discharge is being spammed for "free" while you're spamming an attack that's building the charges, so it's less clunky than build charges > discharge etc.

Sorry for kind of a noob question, been trying to avoid them and looking at the Wiki as much as I can. I can't tell if there is a way to reset all of your skill points though, other than just a single one at a time?

I have my first character, a 20 Templar, and I went with 2h weapons as shields didn't seem to great, but now shields are looking a lot more compelling and I'm feeling a bit squishy, so I'm second guessing the idea.

Is the only solution to reroll?

Correct, there are no full passive resets short of GGG altering the skill tree in some way and giving them out.

Reroll is the best way

Lvl20 shouldn't take you long to get back to. Probably a few hours max

However powerful that ion cannon attack skill is it's counterbalanced by the fact that it fills your entire screen with effects, lol.

Seeing shit in this game in general is a bit of a problem I think. I don't know if there are any builds that focus on melee single DPS but good luck picking a target if there is.

Just started this tonight and liking it a lot. Not sure why after hating almost every bit that Diablo 3 had to puke out. Can't put my finger on it.

Well you don't really single target anything but bosses, and bosses are alone(once everything else has been aoed down) so they're easy to target. Rest of the time melee builds use a combination of multistrike, melee splash or just basic aoes, so there isn't really any targetting to be done. The game is balanced around aoeing shit, if you single target everything it takes forever to clear stuff.

But yeah that discharge spam is annoying as fuck, and loud too. That's when solo so in a group it'd be even worse, groups in general are a fucking mess, between spork totems, LMP spectral throw and chain LA for the most common builds, the whole screen is filled with glowy blinking shit in a generally very dark game so it burns through your eyes right into your soul. That's one reason I don't care much about grouping.

Damnit, I knew I shouldn't attempt the new boss at the end of Act 3 for the first time with a Hardcore character. RIP...goddamn blood rain crap, killed me pretty fast. Should have done some research, but I wanted to be surprised. That quick death on the last phase was definitely surprising, lol.

My lvl 38 Scion was freaking destroying stuff though, with a big slow 2H maul was spectral throw+multi+faster projectiles for about 150DPS, just mowing stuff down, with the throws going so far they were going off the edge of the screen before returning. Amazing range on that attack once you get some faster projectiles going. Had about 1500HP+ max resists for that last boss fight on normal. That class is pretty sweet.

Yeah I didn't die but I think mostly because I was melee so I didn't really notice the rain stuff much since he seems to cast the thingie on himself so as long as you melee him you don't really have to move. Not entirely sure how I'm gonna kill him with my summoner though, I put it on hold for a bit while I rerolled as dual strike melee for a bit, now feel like playing summoner again and it's going fine mostly but my gear is atrocious and I don't feel like canibalizing the gear from my main. Also my spec is a fuckton weaker so I don't know, might farm to 38 or some shit before I go there, maybe I'll have enough with the 2points from piety though. Mostly my concern is my zombies are gonna die instantly most likely, then I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing, facetanking him with no armor/evasion seems fucking dumb and I don't have a skeleton totem yet, doubt Decoy does a better job either. Guess we'll see, probably just portal spam that shit and hope I don't crash.

Well fuck - Made it to 45 on a dual wield Cleave/Elemental DMG templar without dying, and got raped by a reflect rare mob with frost. Wish I could blame it on desync, but I just killed myself before realizing what had happened heh. Why are people starting totally over when they die though? What am I missing?

hardcore? when it dies, its gone, and so is everything they were carrying.

Jumped back in.
So much has changed. I hadn't realized it was so long since I had played. All sort of new gear, and npcs/monsters even. and of course skills.

Giving summoner a shot. always avoided it, cuase I hated the undead nature of it. was waiting for golems or animals.
unfortunately, after 20 levels or so of trying to make animate weapon slightly useful. its not. its completely terrible.

I even went so far as to drop like 10 rare 2 handed weapons in front of merviel, and animated them all, after I sent my skels/zombies in.
nope they all died in about 10seconds anyway.
Maybe there is some magic late game build that makes it viable. dunno what it would be though. just in general, they are skeletons, but worse.

Spectral throw on the other hand seems crazy OP. its the weapon version of freezing pulse basically.

spectral throw+slower proj+lmp.
