Well fuck - Made it to 45 on a dual wield Cleave/Elemental DMG templar without dying, and got raped by a reflect rare mob with frost. Wish I could blame it on desync, but I just killed myself before realizing what had happened heh. Why are people starting totally over when they die though? What am I missing?
If you pick hardcore or the nemesis league the whole hardcore or nemesis aspect of things just goes *poof* when you die, turning your character into a "standard mode" character. Far as I can tell it's the basic perma-death deal only you don't lose the gear you collected. Bragging rights is what it seems to be so far. Although the disclaimer says Nemesis league has fancy loot so maybe there is more to it than that?

Nah, its on domination or whatever the deal is called with the buff nodes. I guess dying in hardcore sends your char to normal league?

EDIT** I gotcha. I'm just going to keep playing then, can't be bothered to start over and really like this build haha.

Well if you play HC/Nemesis, when you die your char is moved to Standard, most ppl who play there tend to stop playing that char at that point and reroll, but you can just keep playing standard. If you picked domination then it doesn't make much of a difference, you do lose xp on death starting cruel though so you don't want to be death rushing shit. It's just a playstyle that makes the game more fun for certain people and worse for others, I like knowing that if I die it's over so every time I get close to death and survive it feels nice. That said if I were to die on a build that wasn't done/just started getting fun to play I probably would keep playing it for a bit in standard. Hasn't really been the case though.

Beat Dominus with my summoner witch, fight was intense. Intensely gay even. As usual all my zombies died within the first 10secs of the fight, so had to do the whole fight as a normal caster with no damage nodes. Worst part was the caster phase, since my main spell is freezing pulse but he hurts so bad at short range, so ended up killing him super slowly with fire and lightning traps. At least last phase he keeps summoning adds so I could spam zombies, it went better than I thought it would because of that, and I could even spectre tittydemons.

What is a Scion? I see it on that list and you guys mentioning it but I don't have it as a character option. Do you have to buy it or somthing?

That class unlocks after you beat the campaign once, supposedly because it would be difficult for a brand new player to make a good build without being overwhelmed by too many early options due to that placement.

Technically, you free her in the last zone but you don't actually need to finish the campaign, but yeah. She was auto unlocked for everyone who had beaten normal during beta too, so people started with Scion right away. Her start is pretty good but you're not losing out much, and she is constantly talking about random shit unlike other chars who tend to only comment on the bigger events. While I get that it's because they recorded the Scion stuff later on, it's annoying as shit, especially since she's like some sort of psycho crazy, it's like the girlfriend you wish you never had. Much prefer the Witch lines.

Ah, that explains it.

I really like the passive skill system they have set up. The only thing that bothers me a bit is you have little control over what actual powers you get due to the gem thing. While I *like* the gem implementation for the most part, it does create odd things.

While I have no interest in zombies, I've been using them all the time on my templar just due to the gem dropping and I can't see not using them, especially clearing trash. *shrug*

The game seems excellent to me, I guess I'm just having a bit of a hard time finding what I want to play.

I agree the method of obtaining gems could use an improvement. I'm talking about quested gems, not the drop only stuff. Drop only gems are fine as is, but it's a little silly that each time me and my friend roll new characters, we have to spend 3 hours powering mules to specific quests in preparation.

You want a reduced mana gem, but happen to be playing a duelist? Too bad, it won't ever be offered to your class! Time to rush a templar to cruel act 2 to get it as a quest reward before you begin your real character. Stuff like that can get annoying.

Or just trade a chaos or whatever they go for these days for a reduced mana gem. Rushing only makes sense if you are 4 boxing for multiples.

However powerful that ion cannon attack skill is it's counterbalanced by the fact that it fills your entire screen with effects, lol.
I've been working on making this build. 34% crit on my level 34 shadow and it procs every half dozen hits or so. Just about to go up into the dagger crit nodes in the which tree. Has been a ton of fun. I'm taking it a bit slow since I am playing HC and I grab as many life nodes/evasion nodes before dps whenever they are near. I may eventually go for Acrobatics since 50% less armor/evasion won't matter much to me given just how little armor I have (75) and shield is like 100. I have almost 1k life though. Need to get grace aura on top of all my other evasion. I've been running vitality in the meantime.

Have to find someone who wants to sell the gem and shit though, it's a bit annoying. Something like a recipe would be nice, trade 3 gems to get a gem at least equal or lower level, same color. Could use the onyx trick to rotate gems and find the one you want by using a bunch of trash gems. Wouldn't change the new player experience or the new league since you need 3 gems of the same level meaning you can't make 3 shadows and trade a bunch of dual strikes for all the 31 gems and would let use recycle the gems in another way than for onyx necklace.

At the very least, they should fix the quest rewards. The new quest they added gives the same rewards for every class, incidentally, it also gives every drop only gem as a reward, the only ones that aren't quest rewards in 1.0 afaik are Portal obviously and Empower, Chain/GMP/Prolif/Ele Hit/Temp Chains etc are all rewards at various difficulty from the archives new quest. So I think having either a new quest, or one quest per difficulty normalized between every class with your usual stuff would be nice.

Like I think everyone should get access to clarity and purity(especially since they're not 60% auras), reduced mana, trap/spell totem/remote mine, faster attacks/casting and I think that'd be enough. Faster attacks/casting maybe not but I find casting to be useful to link to totems even on non caster classes, decoy is shit to summon without frenzy charges or faster casting. Oh and Decoy should probably be in there too but it's very easy to get, and so is clarity I guess. Unless they remove Reduce mana/make it reduce mana cost only and reduce all auras to 45-50% instead, it is mandatory for basically every build as it lets you run 2 auras instead of 1. I think removing it is probably best to be honest, forces people to put skill points if they want to run more than one aura, seems fair enough

Or just play the game and wait till it drops or you see someone in trade chat selling. Rushing to cruel act 2 for reduced mana? That's beyond retarded. Play the game

Welcome to PoE. I've been playing the game for over a year, have tried every major build there is, and I still don't know what I want to play. That's the nice thing about hardcore/nemesis, you get to try a new build everytime you die, lol. I've personally lost ~500 levels worth of characters and equipment in Hardcore mode (2 lvl 60+, probably a half dozen level 50+, and countless low level characters) and keep coming back for more. Great game.

Been a while since I've played. The polish compared to beta is top notch. Rolled a ranger and was given spectral throw by some dude. FFS that gem is so op.

Gonna be around tonight 9pm est if anyone wants to group up. Just killed Brutus.

Well, I've been having a blast to 50 or so (love the templar build I chose) - for me though, what keeps this game from being really really great is the loot (or more importantly, the armor design, character models, etc). I get that they have neat looking helms, and glowie light sticks for sale for real money and that doesn't bother me at all. However, my character literally looks the exact same now as it did 30 levels ago. The character models themselves are terrible, and the animations are mostly poor as well. I guess those are the cuts that have to be made as an independent developer, but it still takes away from the game for me (again, for me). I know it doesn't bother most people though, as the game is doing really really well (and rightfully so). After playing this, then getting in bed and playing d3 on ps3 I can only sit back and imagine this gameplay, character progression, dark level design, etc with Blizzards art team behind it and varied armors. Would really be a close to perfect lootwhore game. Won't keep me from playing though, just that it detracts from an otherwise great gaming experience.

Agreed. Better gear designs, fixing desyncing, and better animations would make this better than any other game in the genre.

I have 30% packet loss to whatever router/device is the last hop on my trace route, and 10-30% on devices on what appear to be on the same network as the second to last hop.

Diablo 3, for instance, had between 0-3% in my testing.

I'm tired of this debate with the GGG / fan boys... let me spell this out.

It's either their equipment or their ISPs... either way, it results in shitty service and they should do something about it. I'm aware you may have to move physical equipment, I'm aware the game is free... but its really bad. Like... 20 times worse than the next worst game I played with synch issues. Diablo 2 did NOT have this problem, before the "okay so the game has latency, your point?" argument comes up. Its every 30 seconds, it is extremely bad and it should be something they consider a priority. Other than that, yes, I do love the game. I'm not running tons of runspeed or a teleport type ability of any kind :p.

Do they have physical servers in North America, or are all of their serves located where they are (New Zealand), just with various names for geographical reasons to keep people in the same timezones playing together
