I don't really enjoy watching people play poe on stream, but I'm pretty hyped to see Mathil, Havoc and Zizaran play 4.0.

Thats awesome I didn’t know they picked those 3. They have end game boss on their schedule not sure if it’s to talk about future ones or design?

I need to watch Mathil on my flight home tonight. Love that midget.

There's a bunch more ppl who will be playing most likely. They have specific streamers on their "main stream" thing that stream while playing, first one is Kripp with Jonathan(poe dev) then second day Mathil, Zizaran, Quin and Rhykker, some with devs others not, but only 30mins each(while kripp gets 1hour on the first day). But meanwhile I think they're all going to be streaming stuff too, just not on the official stream.

My predictions for 4.0.0, just a few ideas i thought.

Content

  • No new acts added.
  • A new class added.
  • A fourth level of ascendency added for all.
  • They are going to have another endless dungeon idea, but one that only goes "down". Something akin to like the general idea of an item world type system (think disgaea) that makes a specific item stronger.
  • Something to increase 123 skill tree points @ level 100. Perhaps some additional quests throughout existing areas.
  • Annointment type things for all items.
  • Re-doing of character models.
  • No auction house, but will have something akin to the bazaar in everquest where you can leave your character online in a place for players to buy from you directly while you're afk. This will be limited to what you can fit in your normal inventory.
  • Removal of act 1-10 requirement every time. They will require it once per league. After it's done, every new character can start without it.
  • Removal of need to clear lab every time. They will require each done once per league. After it's done, every new character only has to do the final level of lab in order for all previous ascendencies to be unlocked (eg: completing uber will clear merc/cruel/normal).
  • Addition of maps that work from level 1 to 67, usable only if you've completed the act 1-10.
  • A new type of currency will be added, likely related to the endless dungeon idea.
  • Few new bosses akin to Shaper/Elder/Atziri
  • Something fishy with Vaal side areas........

QoL

  • Auto-sort button for stash tabs.
  • Stackable normal quality maps that are all the same quality.
  • Inventory will be raised to 12x6 instead of 12x5.
  • Readjustment of currency so that all currency shares the same stack sizes.
  • Map tab overhaul
  • Gem stash tab to allow stackable gems.
  • When X of an item drops, no longer will we have to pick up a bunch of singles. Now, they will always drop as like 5x (item)

I actually think they’re going to double down on crafting including master crafting. I love the focus on grinding mats and rolling items via master crafting. I might be in the minority.

I’ve wondered if they’ll just literally scrap parts of the current story or revamp the acts. I feel they could put in a “sequel” story somehow.

I expect if they do add point bloat, that monsters are going to get harder.

Oh well, I’m done with this league. I heard 3.9 is one of the largest they’ve done? I sorta plan to sit it out.

They should rebalance drops so that higher ilvl drops have higher % chance of rolling T1/T2 mods - PoE is way too skewed to crafting imo. We went from all MF play to high end play literally leaving all rares on the grounds. I still love the feeling of picking up and ID'ing that awesome rare, but in today's meta it's just inefficient game play. Better off speed clearing and buying/crafting what you need.

I wouldn’t mind it if they did it that way. If higher level content blocked out lower tiers of rolls maybe it could be worth picking up drops to find useful items. I don’t even think crafting needs to change much to accommodate it. I would be happy to hunt for drops if they actually had a chance of being good, that shit is satisfying. Crafting rng destroys my motivation to even try. I always buy pre rolled bases and multi mod them myself.

Somehow though good drop items end up on trade. If I need, say, a ring with life, cold resist, phys damage and dex with an empty prefix I can usually find one for sale.

I dunno. This league I decided to make a 10c quad tab and filled it with ID’s 84-86 desirable base rares and other things. Pick up, ID, dump. If I got spammed instantly I knew I’d underpriced and would investigate. Then I’d clean it out almost all at the end of a few days. I made tons of passive income that way and felt like it was worth it overall to pull stuff out of dump and drop it there. Toward the end I would screen for life and resists.

on the surface that sounds like a good idea. I would be a little concerned of flooding the market, and/or additional power creep from this though.

An interesting side effect is you want to reduce total amount of drops to balance this. And thus, increase the quality of what does drop. picking up blues and rares would be on the table, since that blue or rare might be that t1 roll you want, at a higher probability. (assuming rates made appreciable.) as opposed to only giving a shit about ilvl and base type for later rerolling.

And that’s what they’ve said in the past. I mean d3 has what 1/10th of the shit drop?

It’s not like it’s hard to kit out. It’s just hard to get those 1% gains but you can have 95% of a build going that isn’t reliant on a specific combination of uniques (read: watcher’s eyes) in minutes after your starter.

Once you know the game, it’s as easy to reroll as d3, instead the investment is time in acts instead of hunting sets and legendaries.

Finally got that Blight Herald, so I'm done with the league. If anyone needs gear or currency, let me know.

I hope Blight was an attempt to slow gameplay down. If so, A for intention, F for implementation. Anyone playing melee was at a disadvantage(not saying they couldn't do it), and certain builds could AFK the encounters. Streamers stopped using Blighted maps as a build showcase. I imagine because the gameplay was radically different enough that it was a disservice to their videos.

Recent league mechanics plus engineered meta shifts have become too polarizing. I rolled a lot of characters this league, partly because there was a lot new stuff to try, and partly because my old mainstays had been nerfed. I really enjoy cooking up new PoBs and trying them out, so I actually like that aspect of the meta shifts. But tried and true fallbacks need to persist so when it comes time to grind out those challenges, you know exactly what to do. I don't know how to fix this, but the swing just seems too large atm. I didn't feel like I could go back to my cyclone or ED/Contagion characters from past leagues.

My thoughts on the builds I tried out this league:
Slave Driver Mana Guardian. Ridiculous power/investment. I expect summoners overall and slave drivers in particular to get nerfed. My dislikes were typical summoner shit(I hate having minions kill for you), and that delay waiting for ES recharge to kick in. Uber Elder was a shitshow too, but I imagine part of that was user error. I wasn't timing my recalls very well.

Zombie Mana Guardian. An attempt to solve ES recharge with ES leech. I didn't put much time into this character as the clear was unsatisfactory. Minions already feel like dragging a pack of ADHD dogs through a map, zombies are the worst of the bunch.

Static Strike Elementalist and Gladiator. First one was Mathil's build. It was ok, dropped it eventually as Static Strike's nature is at odds with itself. It will kill packs before you can swing at them, guaranteeing you will run into a pack without the buff up. Tried Gladiator version as challenger charges and bleed pops seemed promising for ridiculous clear speeds. And it was, well into the late 80s I was getting over 500M XP/hour. Dropped it because it was TOO fast, Static Strike's range kinda sucks(felt worse than BV) and there was still the aforementioned buff refresh issue.

Elusive Abuse Assassin. This is basically a juiced up HoI-chaining build with some of the new Elusive tools. Definitely the most fun to map with. Bosses, not so much. I tried BV and having to run up and hug packs to get a HoI chain was mildly annoying. Also, melee positioning when you have +250% movement speed is actually a major downside. I tried WOrb too and it solved those problems. I would recommend both versions of the build except for Uber Elder farming(WOrb is quite dumb here) and deep Delving. The build relies on avoidance, so challenging content can lead to one-shots. This build is REALLY fun for theorycrafting.

Voidfletcher Ice Shot Raider. Didn't play it much, felt it was pretty similar to the above but worse at clearing and better at boss dps.

Mathil's Magma Orb/Ice Spear build. Gave this another try this league, not sure why, came to the same conclusion. Inconsistency in triggering is really annoying. I hope they change crit calculations for 4.0 as basically any build that wants to do CoC has use cyclone and this build does not function with cyclone.

HoWA Wild Strike CI Trickster. Clear was great, blight was unfriendly to it in higher tier maps, dropped it because of that.

Cold Cobra Lash CI Deadeye. Clear was decent to pretty good. I think relying on one "model" of damage can lead to issues. By that, I mean just having a bunch of chaining projectiles without secondary explosions. Since projectiles from one attack cannot hit the same mob more than once, you either have to one-shot the pack or fire into it multiple times. Dropped it because of that and my single target felt flacid despite what PoB was telling me.

Also rolled a Storm Brand Mana Guardian but meh, nothing changed with that build.

Pets will surely be nerfed as they have been wild but it's been fun to play the entire league with them - I hope that they don't nerf golemancers when they do nerf pets.

Golemancers great as a 2nd character for me as it's costly to gear and it does all the content nicely, plus they are really fun if you like min/maxing. Unlike say a slave driver necro in a tabula who destroys pretty much everything on the cheap.

I dont' want to see pets get fucked over though, Zombies have been in the shitter for ages in this game, they don't deserve to get put back there.

I predict a lot of butthurt regardless of what they announce.

Ahh yes, I am super guilty of this in the past lol. The reduced mana change was epic but they all made sense looking back on them now.

They've already said bow rework next league and bows are already insanely strong. Hopefully we get a new bow skill or 2 for 3.9.

Hoping for a couple new bow skills and maybe make bows not feel like poop for use as a league starter.

I thought at some point a rework of the loot system was mentioned to address the disparity of drops and crafted. I vaguely recall something about quantities generated as well. I want to say by Jonathan in a Baeclast ep.

I would love some QoL changes for dealing with dump tabs--even as little as an identify all option. Some way to mass roll maps. I hope they drop, or limit, the veiled crafting mods--have them limited to special crafts. Probably some tweaks to the early game to improve the first time play for new players.

After that, it's just the usual more bosses, new class, new skills, more zones.

With another bow league, I'm expecting something done with Mirage Archer.

I want to be able to right click stuff in my inventory and it'll get auto-sorted into the correct tab when I am at my stash.

I've wanted this for a long time.

My DREAM implementation is to have a ruleset, like we do for loot filters, for where items go into your stash. i.e. if you have multiple map tabs, you can have one for white maps, one for yellow, one for IDed yellow that have X mod, etc. It would be fantastic and amazing QoL which is why they will likely never do it :(
