Give this a read
It's more about picking an ability that you want to focus a build on. But most of the dual claw builds are fairly similar and revolve around the shadow section of the tree with minor variations for CI/acrobatics/ or IR EB MOM life crit etc.
Also be sure to visit the shadow duelist and ranger section of the official forums, the best builds and strats are posted there. (can't get you a link cuz I'm at work)

Not really new, played a ranger up to like 47 when it came out. Just put points into bow buff shit though, wasn't focused at all and I died like hell in nightmare mode. Need something mighty.

Vaal Molten Shell for sure, maybe tempest shield if I can afford the mana reserves with my other auras.

And a bramble jack, you're a man if you do this. Pretty sure increased phys dmg nodes (non weapon specific) scale bramble jack reflect.
Make sure to run hatred, and get a spike shield, and run cast on damage taken level 1 punishment curse with increased curse effect nodes.
Also run vaal cyclone and vaal lightning warp to get them all ontop of you.
Herald of ice will add cold dmg and mobs explode etc.
(I wonder if you can life leach reflect dmg)

You can also equip shackles on yourself to apply permanent punishment to yourself to proc Vaal Molten Shell with a bright beak and multistrike double strike. Something like 6-9 molten shell explosions per second.Nice, I like the idea of taking hits to kill them. Veil of the night will get me killed horribly
Might be able to do this with Cast when damage taken and ice nova / shock nova etc.
The item I'm thinking of is Shackles of the Wretched (which applies a curse to yourself)
Alternatively you could do CWDT: Enduring Cry Discharge Life leach
Main attack: Frenzy Multi strike Faster Attacks
the idea is that you're spamming frenzy charges and discharges that life leach a bunch.
Effectively a Cast on Hit Discharger.

Having free level 1 blood magic seems incredibly strong for some builds, since it effectively frees up a gem slot in their main skill chains, and the little bit of extra life cost from being only level 1 is easily offset by high leech or life on hit.
If you reach 100% piercing, does projectile return make every arrow skill into spectral throw basically? Seems very strong.

Yes, if the projectile has 100% pierce it is effectively spectral throw for all projectile attacks.
Projectile speed will increase the range at which it will snap back. Both increased and decreased.
It's worth seeing if projectiles that fork off into the distance return to hit the mobs they missed.
The one thing that makes this not like spectral throw is that spectral throw applies damage to mobs every .35 seconds that the proj is in contact.
