I should have known once I started playing this game a couple of weeks ago I should have checked Rerolled to see if anyone here was playing. It's a nice side distraction game and it's not P2W cash shop heavy which I love.

I just jumped in and started playing and did not bother looking up builds on the forums so I will probably have to start over. Started on rampage but was beat down fairly fast and got reset to standard. I figured I would learn the game mechanics there and try Rampage again.

Can you farm bosses for better drops? I never seem to get good drops out of them after killing them a couple of time. I am almost to to the end of act 3 and just killed the boss that drops a key to complete that act. But my gear seems a bit weak as the dailies are always touch and go for me. I play a marauder lots of points in mace damage and strength not enough in life I am guessing.

Rampage doesn't reset you back to Standard, Beyond does. If you die that is.

Maruader tree needs as much life as you can spare + additional defensive options like shield block/IR+Grace etc.

Getting gear early is a tricky subject, I'd recommend getting in the rerolled guild and trading some currency up for some decent leveling gear. Plenty of established players in both rampage and beyond would be willing to part with dual resist life gear for a chaos or two (or stack of alterations etc)

Definitely do your research, research goes a long way in this game. Look up builds to get an idea what to do with your marauder.

poexyz site probably going to be your best resource longterm for your character power.

Generally I tell new players to prioritize defensive stats and max resists in each difficulty as soon as possible.

You can definitely farm bosses, Greyform. You can manually re-set a zone by holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard while you click either the zone entrance, or the waypoint on the map. A menu will pop up asking if you want to enter the last instance, or start a new one.

The 2 most popular zones to farm tend to be the Ledge in Act 1(staight-line zone, quick clear that get's every mob without having to look for them all), and Docks in Act 3(used to be the highest level zone in Act 3 that has an easy waypoint right into it, and really only 1 resist to worry about, fire, nothing there uses lightning or cold)

Piety and Dominus in Act 3, and Vaal in Act 2 are all popular farming targets, they just take a little bit of running to get to as there are no waypoints real close to them, you have to go through a few levels to get to them.

ah than I started on beyond. Yeah research seems to be key it really reminds me of D&D online. But a little more forgiving to respec.

Its the closest thing to an MMO I have found but with a lot more action. I like to theorycraft a lot and this game celebrates diverse builds and ideas.

well over 20 maps for my first zana to spawn. Ranger is 76..

An Infractem dropped. probably pretty great for that tornado shot ranger alt I was making.
(Alternatively, may have an Infractem on Rampage, if someone is more interested in actually using it.)

I did not realize that after act 3 the game starts over. Is there more to it than that?
not storywise. currently.
The game is using a progressive launch/content platform.
Act4 is currently scheduled for "in the future".

While large content updates each season are the standard. Masters were a massive change in content for example, this season. Last seasons corrupted zones, and strongboxes of course then.

the story does just repeat 3 times in the classic D2 style.
While Maps add another endgame element here. Maps being a drop based system, were you can spawn new zones to farm based on tilesets, and modifiers on the map. In ARPG style, these are random generated farming/progression areas. Not story or puzzle, etc based.

Basic gameplay itself opens as you go, via support gems, and possibly build enabling uniques, etc. at your first playthrough normal mode, you likely only have a few supports.

There's also the queen atziri zone, which is kind of your end-game goal to eventually be able to clear the minibosses and her. Then there's the uber version of atziri and friends, but that's mostly top 1% only content.

Yea, the "end-game" in PoE is mapping, Atziri, or boss-running (piety/dom). You can't fairly judge the game if you haven't done one of those three for a bit. Also, as characters build out the passive tree and accumulate gear, they tend to feel substantially different in each act. Faster, stronger, etc etc.

I have checked out a few builds and I see I am not too far off the path. in fact it was almost as if I were following the "ground slammer" build for my marauder. I needed to get more points in +life but that was next anyhow. I went DPS at the start since nothing seemed to be hurting much. That's changed and I am adding in the + life as fast as I can level.

I need to get some more support gems as mentioned above.

\o/ after dying a couple of characters in beyond - 59 shockwave totem, 67 srs witch, 77 shockwave totem I have now finally gotten a character to 80 - along with the "IMMORTAL" achievement popping up on my screen. Prior to this happening though, I did the hardest thing I've done so far in this game - I soloed the Coward's trial. Hol-ay-shit. Luckily it was worth it because I got a spidersilk robe that is probably worth 10 alterations

p.s. If anyone finds a +2/+1 fire staff on beyond I am very interested in purchasing it

+2/+1 fire staffs are like 15 ex minimum on Rampage right now.

seem to be about half that on poe.trade for beyond. trying to craft one was a major headache, though. Might give that a try again if I ever stumble upon a 6-linked staff

To add a little to this. It is a good idea to learn how to level fast and efficiently through normal and cruel. Especially if you can become familiar with the following for leveling: A skill + support gem(s) that work regardless of tree, what you can and can't skip, a set of leveling gear/uniques. There are quite a few builds that don't even start until you hit your 50's and everything before that is just getting to 50 in the safest and fastest manner possible. Many of those builds have leveling guides but you'll quickly see some similarities (Level as Spectral Throw, Freezing Pulse, Cleave, Double Strike, Molten Strike, etc.)

If you are new to the game it's not a bad idea to start with one of those base skills as a long term spec just so you can become familiar with how it and it's supports work. Then when you want to start a new build or just try something out you can blow throw normal and cruel in a few hours if you want. Once you become familiar with support gems and how their interactions really work you'll find ways to speed up your initial leveling that even takes advantage of the early passive tree you are using for a later build.

My arc witch got a +1 lightning mace to drop naturally with 3 slots already linked. Arc is the bestest spell in the game. So much winning.
