CWDT: Imortal Call + Enduring Cry + Increased duration for the hits that slip through. Essentially you need 50% chance to evade from evasion rating for ondars to be considered near phys proj immune.

Lol, for the first time in my POE Career I spent more than a few chaos on a character. I bought a CoD yesterday for my lvl 78 FP Shadow and then spent some extra currency fixing its links for 2.5ex total expenditure. I literally died 3 minutes after finalizing it. If anyone wants a 4L COD in Standard let me know.

Not sweating it -- that character needed to RIP and now I feel free to YOLO a bit more. I spent 2 months in invasion league playing like a huge pussmonster and hording exalts, then I got bored and quit. Not going to do that this time around. Following Mathil's build and its super fun so far.

I know that feel, Eidal. On my 3rd attempt at my duelist things were going great. I had managed to 6link my belly of the beast in 30 fusings while trying to just 5link it. Less than an hour later I look away from the screen for 10 seconds while in merciless docks (no monsters on screen) and come back to the death message... I'm already assuming the same will happen to my current character once I manage to 5L or 6L my CoD which isn't going so easily this time as i'm 100+ fusings deep (and 400ish jewellers to 6socket it before that).

It does change the way you feel when you start to lose good gear a few times heh. I'm so paranoid about everything now (on my 8th character on Beyond) I don't even attempt the boss fights as i'm progressing, I just pay the guys with games open the 1c they want for safe kills. Maybe it's just because i've been playing relatively squishy builds compared to my duelist. I'll probably try and find some enjoyable non-paranoid builds (my duelist never felt squishy or in danger) to shoot for the all classes 65 challenge and hopefully get over it heh.

Yea, I'm sure most people on Hardcore have similar stories. I Rip'd my 74 Freeze Pulser last week, right after making 5 chaos in purchases for a new wand, and new shield which changed the build drastically. I guess I started to feel a bit cocky, and the map I was in decided to bring me back to reality.

If we're sharing stupid rips - I did a easy as pie 69 map on my 77 shockwave scion and hear the talamoana, warrior! and figure hey, lets check it out. Oh nice, no rocks or anything, just find the karui spirit. Clear everything relatively easy and click the spirit. Bam dead. It was literally 0.1 second after I clicked it that I died. Why? It ressed everything around it, including portal mobs and shit, and my 4k health which I was not expecting was melted in an instant.

Pissed me off and now haku can go fuck himself if it's the cave map tileset, with narrow hallways.

Desync took me out in Beyond.

Had a box to open that had corpse explosion. No biggie, no corpses on the screen, and I'm a bow user with 48% run speed, I can kill stuff without it getting anywhere near me to explode. Click on box, run an entire screen-length away, fire into the crowd, half the pack dies right at the box, I rubber-band right back to the box myself, they all explode, and I die. Level 61. Chucked all my gear into the standard league stash if anyone needs it.

I think I might be done with hardcore leagues. I've lost 4 characters now in Beyond since that league started(and none of them to Beyond mobs), all level 59-64 in the first act of Merciless. Merciless just completely rapes me, I can't even make it to Mereveil, much less get to the point of doing maps :/ Self-found soloing through just isn't meant for hardcore I don't think. Too risky unless you play a summoner/totem build, and those just bore me to death.

You really have to start trading for upgraded items if you want to survive into merciless and maps. Trying to do self found, you're going to end up having to grind forever to find an upgrade. You just really have to trade in this game if you want to survive.

Beyond is easy. Ripping is what makes it fun. Just gotta choose your battles, chests rip more people than mobs do these days.

I give all due respect to PoE's hardcore playing population. There are already a hundred horrible and obvious ways to die in PoE that anyone should easily be able to see (holy map mods!) but then there are the dozens of subtle-not-so-well-known and as equally if not more deadly secrets which you will encounter eventually. PoE will lure you into a feeling of superiority as your excellent build comes to full fruition and begins to map only to push your shit it when you come to one of these deadly situations. Lose your concentration for even a few minutes is more then enough to get wiped in PoE yet you could lose your concentration for a dozen maps and not come out the worse.

And that is where PoE is "hard". Not in the build or even in the execution of that build but in the stalwart concentration after 80 levels even after you are lured into that false sense of security. Even then you have to keep your finger near alt-f4 just because there is always something that will kill you.

By the time you get into the 80's you kind of have a fair idea of what you can handle in hardcore. For instance, Ice nova or Det dead chests will rip you. Vuln curse in maps are kind of not okay until you get insane gear.

Even pack size gets sketch as fuck because you're almost guaranteed to spawn a unique boss (all of which are pretty rippy).

The one thing about HC that makes me keep coming back is that once you've gotten up there the next time around you're even stronger. Game knowledge and experience is more rewarding in HC than it is in SC (where clear speed is king) imo.

I played during invasion which was pretty fun even after the nerfs but the desync for me is insane in Florida. I actually like the pace of rushing and ofc Atziri farming which I would be terrified of on beyond.

I wouldn't even play the game if it didn't have hardcore mode. I could easily beat the game and grind to 100 in a softcore setting, but I would be bored to tears. It's just a different mind set and build philosophy that goes along with playing on hardcore, and that is most appealing in a game like this (for me).

Nah man, you're just careless and lazy. Boxes have been killing people for months; use a quartz flask, use smoke mine, use lighting warp, shit... trigger and Alt-F4 works too. When you trigger and run, your risk of desync skyrockets. People have been QQing about desync since beta but its never been a real big issue for me. You need to understand the types of situations in which desync probability increases, and the MAJOR one is running through a bunch of enemies. I.e., triggering a box.

I'm pretty lazy, too, and I usually just trigger, take a few steps, and /oos immediately. I know this isn't a feasible tactic in higher level maps though.

That being said, given your play-style, you probably will have a lot more fun in Rampage where mistakes aren't punished with character loss. If I kept ripping in A1M I'd quit too.

I dont know how you guys do it on beyond, I rip on rampage all the time esp to reflect even with granites etc.
Shrug, because you've never had a reason to adapt to it. Glass cannon works just fine as long as your outpacing your exp loss with ridiculous softcore kill rate. POE Hardcore players have to have a much more calculated defensive setup. Right now the meta is pretty stale but I think GGG is aware of it and working on it. I'd be curious what breakdown of Beyond league players are using AA/MoM or LC.

PSA: Regardless of what league you play in, everyone should have an AHK script running with /oos bound to a one-key press. Knowing for sure where my character is in relationship to the mobs around me is crucial, and sadly, for all of this game's strong suits, netcode isn't one of them.

I've been working on the get all classes to 65 during the league challenge, and I've never done hardcore before. Think I'm going to level one of the remaining classes on beyond for two achievements at once. Like Krassus, my playstyle has always been blow everything up as fast as possible, and just shrug off the occasional reckless death. Going to be quite the adjustment for me.

It's possible. Until this Beyond league, I hadn't played at all since the boxes were added to the game. Took a few months off from playing towards the end of when the Invasion league was first going(and I think the standard league at that time was the first one that added the boxes), right as boxes were added to all the leagues. Odd that I treated boxes the same way on every single difficultly level and never desync rubber-banded back even once (played to 63 as a ranged Arc witch, to 59 with a spec throw scion too, treating them the same) and it just happens to me once I get to merciless when it's actually deadly, lol. Figures...

I always play ranged classes, so I don't have a ton of experience with desync problems.

Decide from level 1 what your late-game defensive setup will look like. You will want AA/MoM or Acro/Ondars + LC unless you're very very proficient in maneuvering and have a very stable connection. High armor builds are tougher to setup and I'm not very familiar with it. Block-based builds are functional but more expensive. You don't want monstrous dps/crits until you have a very good understanding of how reflect will interact with your character.

Every HC character wants a CWDT + IC + EC + ID setup.

I didn't mean to come across as a dick -- I get into this discussion a lot with friends who are frustrated with the unforgiving nature of PoE. It takes about 3 hours to beat Normal and maybe 6 to beat Cruel depending on how stream-lined your build is and how much overleveling you do. On your last RIP you learned that you need to revise your strategy for strongboxes. You could either keep at it or just fire up some Rampage and get some more practice in. I think you'd be better off at this point getting some late-game experience in via Rampage. You can always re-attack hardcore in the next season. That's the awesome thing about PoE, you can take a break and come back to something new/interesting in the next leagues.

Are you following other people's builds or are you doing your own thing? Solo self-found is its own extra challenge mode, but dying in early Merciless is 100 percent player skill issue... the gear checks in the game come into play for later content.
