I've been doing a witch summoner character, using tips from Pyros's guide. I'm doing decently duo'ing with a friend, but at level 35 in act 3 my pets seem mostly as speed bumps for me while I kill stuff with my nukes (slowly). I'm holding out hope they can become my main dps source later, as well as not dying. Here's my projected level 50 build:Click. Here's my estimated level 80ish build, which is a realistic end-game:Click. Here's also a masterfully drawn diagram of my goal end-game gem setup:Click

I dumped my summoner and decided to stick with a physical damage bow ranger for duoing and a EK/EB (eventually) shadow for solo. The summoner was weak, boring, and the minions pissed both me and my friend off constantly due to getting in the way of normal targeting. The shadow build is my favorite out of all the things I've tried so far. Still in act 3 normal with it, but there's been no ramp up in difficulty at all.

Care to post a link to the build you have in mind? I was kinda set on the summoner, but the first responses regarding minions and act3 have been less than stellar. Shadow's always cool, i just read it's considered to be more of pvp character due to it's placement in the wheel. But that was a while ago.

Summoner works in act 3 its just.... really... painfully slow.

I'm working my way through it right now on my Witch summoner and I have a feeling that once I get through it and into Cruel difficulty Act1 and 2 are going to be pretty easy again until I hit that wall back in Act 3.

I wish there was a way to raise minion elemental resistances other than losing all the stats on my shield to them. Those alchemist mobs in the sewers just destroy them.

Yea I ditched my summoner for a pure caster role. Summoner has survivability but its slow, very boring, and minion AI is retarded at best. Going cold witch with freezing pulse and Ice Spear, focusing on life nodes, ice/elemental dmg, and critical strike chance nodes on the passive tree.

It's basically this:http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/64424

I figured I'd worry about coming up with something of my own after I get adjusted to 9 months worth of changes since I last played.

Dumped the templar. It was fun, juggling with EE, but just not very strong.

Going to try a claw shadow, with CI/reaver/vaal.

Died in Act 2 Cruel on a 44 Ice Temp, to shock stacking + electric curse. Was my own fault just didnt realize it was going to be that bad. 26 now starting act 3 normal on same Ice Temp.

All the CI builds are prepatch CI, I wouldn't recommend doing anything CI with the current version until like 80 when you have very very good gear. Even then I think current CI isn't really worth it when you're so close to chaos resist nodes if you're going that way anyway. Since you drop all your life, you need very high ES, to get very high ES, you need to get good ES gear but also a lot of ES%. So much that in fact you're going to be fairly close to a health build in terms of investment. And while you might get higher ES than you would health+ES, that's only when your gear has so much ES the 8% ES are largely better than the 8% health(difference is due to base life going up as you level, str giving life and most health nodes being like 8 8 10+20str and stuff like that so more efficient).

I'm not saying don't do claw shadow that's fine, but don't pick CI/GR until you have a very large amount of ES, and you'll see it's quite hard to get that. Because of that, I'd say just do a health build first, and respec later, might cost you a few regrets but at the point you'll respec it shouldn't be an issue to afford them.

^^^ Yea....Unless they up the % of the ES nodes on the passive tree I just don't see any reason to go CI + ES % on the passive tree as opposed to health %.

Well eventually, with the maximum ES nodes and the ES% stacking, even though it was nerfed, you should be able to reach 8-10k ES I think. Going CI at that point, dropping health nodes and investing into ES% nodes, you'd net a decent benefit from it plus the chaos immunity. However that's basically with pure endgame gear, you need to roll the 3 exact prefixes AND get high rolls on them to get those really good ES pieces. Oh and it needs to have the right sockets/links because you're never changing that armor again most likely which is why it sucks at lower lvl when you don't have hundreds of currency to waste on one piece of gear. Could probably do it earlier though depending on your build and what not, I think if you can reach 6k ES with all the ES% nodes, CI is worth it. Before that, it's a waste of time and a good way to get yourself killed.

So I am making my way through cruel on my Duelist. I hardly have any damage modifiers, it's all been setting up defenses at this point. I decided to go the Iron Reflexes Unwavering Stance route and stick with dual wield rapiers.

Cleave + life gain on hit is pretty awesome for dealing with large groups. However there is usually some element that makes the group stronger or harder to deal with that is hanging back somewhere (Necromancers, Totems, Blackguard mages ect.) so for those I flicker strike over to them, then dual strike them down. Feels pretty sweet to just zip around the battlefield assassinating fools.

I keep frenzy charges up all the time for the added attack speed. I want to try out blood rage next. Hopefully that comes up soon.

Anyways, my question is about chaos damage. I am only finding chaos resist once in a blue moon on rare items, and I only see one node that I could possibly grab for 8% resist. Is there something I am missing when it comes to dealing with this stuff? Other than stacking life and block% I don't see it.

This was a fun game, but it keeps randomly crashing my entire computer. Looked on the forums and while it is not common, it is not super rare either and they seem to have no idea what causes it. Not worth repeatedly crashing my system to play it, though. *Sadpanda*
