The beauty of Tabula - I normally run spark+EK, but I can swap in Arc and Bladefall depending on reflect (of course, I also have to turn off auras for ele reflect),but the drop in speed is better than rerolling the maps. I also vaguely remember lightning thorns being much weaker this patch, certainly don't remember dying to it. The only reflect that pretty much instakilled me was the ice golem' reflect phase at the end of waterways, since he was off screen. As Tenks said, that is the crazy thing about voltaxic - you don't have to deal with reflect, ever.
I started this league out as Spark and lost that character to the Promenade boss. I think I posted about it in this thread. It was way offscreen and the sparks just traveled like two screen lengths and murdered me via thorns. I had close to 10k HP and dropped in less than two seconds. Thorns is something like 10k damage per hit before resists, if you're spamming the screen with sparks you die basically instantly. Even if you're using Voltaxic and doing chaos damage it doesn't matter, thorns still kills you as it's not reflecting your damage.

Remember that Blackguard Mages can appear in any map and can cast thorns on anything. It's just a regular white mob and sure, 99% of the time they just die before they can even cast it but if say a blackguard reanimator (very chaos resistant) or one of the undead raisers (very lightning resistant) gets thorns you're just dead with no way to predict or counter it, you can't get rid of your sparks once they're out.

I think you just forget about running promenade.

The normal mob thorns is a lot less damaging, and the amount of conditions that need to meet to actually get you killed(need to have blackguard mages in the map, need to have a secondary type of mob that's highly resistant to your damage so it doesn't die instantly, blackguard mage needs to buff that mob before dying, the mob needs to be full or near full health before it gets buffed) seems a bit too extreme for it to be a realistic risk. I mean it might happen, but that's kinda poe deaths in a nutshell, they tend to be exceptional events that only happen once in a while. You're way more likely to die to a server crash/lag than this I'd say. Now you could play a build that doesn't suffer from this particular issue, but a lot of builds have some downsides against certain type of mobs anyway that put you at higher risk than others. What you mostly need to look at is how enjoyable the build is and how efficient it is.

Lightning thorns doesn't reflect your damage, it just deals a flat amount of damage to you whenever you hit the target. Once it gets on something, the zillion sparks you have out will guarantee you die as stopping your casts doesn't turn off all the bouncing shit in play.

I've never run Atziri but AFAIK the image with the mirror is an exception and also reflects chaos damage. I could be wrong on this though as I've never done Atziri.
With lightning based skills that are not targeted you would just swap out to storm call for Atziri. With an frontal AE, bow attack, or any kind of cone you can lure out a flameblast from the 4 split then shoot from the middle outwards towards any of the 3 that don't have the mirror in hand.

Also yesterday was a bit of an anomaly. The gods of RNG favored me.

1) Stole those +100STR / +10% phy gloves from GStash and Vaal'd them to get Temp Chains on Hit. Sold for 20c.
2) Cadbro sold me a Carcass Jack. I may use on my Reaver, I may not. Either way ~25c for 2k coins.
3) Exalted drop
4) Alpha Howl drop. Sold for 8c.
5) Consuming Dark drop [terrible rolls]. Sold for 25c.

This was in maybe 1.5 hours of play just mindlessly running maps to get passives to take my jewel nodes on my Arc witch.

Yesterday I also Vaal'd an Infernal Mantle for +1 all gems. Thats still sitting. Its on sale for 40c but i may need to lower it. Sucks I didn't socket/link it before the Vaal.

What are the approximate odds for corrupting +1 level onto a 20/20 gem? I want a 21/20 caustic arrow, but they sell for like 2-3exa. 20/20 pure gems can be had for 15c, so unless the RNG on vaal is really shitty I feel like it's more effective to buy them pure and corrupt it myself.

Need a plus1arrow Drillneck too, but that one I've heard is something like 1 in 25 so it seems like too much of a gamble compared to buying the finished product even if they start at 3.5ex.

I'm guessing uncommon but I honestly don't know. I'm considering doing something similar with Facebreakers. I can buy them uncorrupted for ~5c but ones with Elemental Weakness on Hit go for 2ex+.


Shiiiiit someone has Maligario's corrupted with Elemental on Hit for 10c but he's offline. I need this clown to come online so I can rob him blind.

I always assumed vaaling had equal chance for every outcome, but I honestly have no idea why I think that. GGG likes fucking with the odds.

I'd highly doubt they're equal odds. Since gems can have 1 of 4 effects you're at a 25% chance to get a level modification effect. Level can go -1 or +1 so a 50% chance of getting what you want. No way the odds are 12.5% or else the prices wouldn't be so high.

Since I've been corrupting a ton of gloves lately I can say I don't get vaal implicts very often. Most often it is "do nothing" and then followed by whiting out some sockets. Even if they were equal odds getting the vaal implicit I want would be low 25% and 10% so only 2.5% chance of getting the vaal implicit.

+1'ing a gem is roughly around 1:8 odds to hit level 21. Normally you would want to hold as many extras or your primary skill on you as you can while you level so when it hits 20/20 you have a handful to yolo.

Unfortunately I didn't have a good idea of which gems I needed at 20/20 and which were best to vaal for either level or quality when I started leveling and I'm 86 now so I'm stuck buying 20/20 pures if I want to gamble for a +1. At 1/8 it seems worth it, since 2ex is about as low as they go. Saw one for 1ex once but of course that was the day I crafted my bow and I was broke.

Still not sure on Drillnecks. Unlike failed gems which immediately drop in value from 15c to 1c, you can still sell a corrupt Drillneck for only a little less than you paid for the pure. Not really sure I feel like trying to sell potentially 20+ failures though, that sounds like a pain in the ass.

Yeah I was selling corrupted Maligaro's gloves and it was a bit of a pain. At any given time I'd have 3 up ranging from 1c to 3c simply so I knew which they were talking about when I got messaged.

Ah good, maybe there is some hope of getting a hat with 25% Caustic Arrow damage on it after all. Crafting a decent IIR item can't be anywhere near as bad as playing the labyrinth lottery.

Edit: Why does my Caustic DoT damage only go from 14749 to 15268 dps with a 25% CA dmg enchant?

Probably because it's additive damage, and you already have like +300% or whatever, so it goes from 300 to 325%. That or the tooltips are wrong with CA, which happens pretty often for a bunch of shit. But in general it's the additive property of most damage sources. You have dot damage, chaos damage, poison damage, projectile damage, aoe damage, whatever else, and it all adds up. Unless something says give x% MORE damage, it's additive and rarely adds a whole lot. More would be multiplicative.

Yeah, the tooltips are annoying. Like area dmg does increase the caustic cloud DoT, but it doesn't change the tooltip at all.

Ah well, can't complain anyway. I got the hat for 3c, alch'ed it a few times and ended up with 43% IIR, 40% cold res, 64 life, and some other crap. Sure beats running merciless lab a couple hundred times.

just to add to this, sinces its often overlooked. Debuffs are also multiplicative. (mostly curses, but not exclusively.)

Anyone experiencing bad lag lately? Goddamn GGG servers are pure shit. The past week or so the game servers has been A nightmare for me especially after 8 or 9pm CST. During the morning and day hours I get no lag or spikes at all but at nights the game is literally unplayable. I thought the problem was on my end but after reading the forums many people are experiencing it. I can play other online game and not have any lag or constant spike issues.
