Get drunk, stumble your way to maps, have fun.

A couple days to maps is not bad if you're only playing ~2 hours per session.

Ok, took me about 5 hours to get to level 35. (Wasted about 20 min trying to kill Hailrake with Spectral Throw.) Got Huntsman Gloves from my box.

Now to do it all over again on the PS4!

Just gonna use Flashback as practice for getting to maps quicker. I fucking suck and it usually takes me a couple days.

Check out this video it has the best pointers from all the sources I've looked at--commentary by one of the lead racers--it is a complete fresh start run. Even slacking he got to maps in under 6 hours.

I always, without fail, go the wrong direction towards the exit I'm looking for on Act 5+. End up spending 10+ mins on a map that the pros do in 3. Doing much better this run and should hit maps tonight if I don't get too hammered at BWW for lunch.

The flashback part was pretty awesome right after I left lioneyes watch for the first time. Utter chaos. Then I got a few pieces of gear and it's been pretty underwhelming. Yay, another backtracking abyss. Better than nothing I suppose but not having played synthesis before it was "fixed" I don't like it at all. Spend a ton of time IDing rares too since lol melee and I need gear but yeah, all rares still fucking suck even when you have shit gear. Going to see how far I can push it since I haven't ever done a league start and I've pretty much maxxed out my main character in standard so I'm not sure if I'll continue there unless some new skill comes along that I really like and can't min/max during a league.

Well, trash me as you may, but I think Chris Wilson is officially out of touch with his game now. The GDC presentation showcased how GGG is chasing quick returns on quick turnaround leagues. I don't have a problem with their business model aside from the speed meta is not necessarily my thing, but it's their game so fill your boots.

His apology post was well said, but just a bunch of words. Damage control, mostly, for possibly the worst received league ever (even moreso than Bestiary? Incredible!) Time will tell if real improvements are made in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

But reading that Q&A? Wilson is an idiot.

"If a player doesn't want to interact with specific past league content, then it's usually possible to just avoid starting the event. For example in the case of Abyss or Breach, you can just walk around the object that triggers it. However, this typically feels pretty bad for players, because the content usually comes with generous rewards, so players are missing out if they choose not to play it."

No, you jackass, it doesn't feel bad because THEY AVOIDED IT KNOWINGLY. Why don't you just come straight out and say what you mean "We want our players to access every single bit of design we have included, whether they like it or not". This has been an issue with GGG for many years - they are stubborn that players are squeezed through every small hole they make. Also, Betrayal mechanics (and to a lesser extent Bestiary) - do you even play your game?

"The honest answer here is that we believe that game systems like Delve will become boring if you have unlimited access to them, and so it's important to limit their access by requiring regular Path of Exile play between sessions of special content"

Bullshit. You fear that if you allow full access to this, or something like Leaguestones, that players will ignore the rest of your game you insist on cramming up their ass non-stop.

"We are fully aware of clear-speed concerns when designing new league content. We generally try to create content that doesn't require insane clear-speed. Of course, it is true that the faster you can complete an area and get its rewards, the faster you will progress, so there's an implicit incentive to making good (i.e. fast) characters."

Hey, Chris, your designers introduced Incursion and a decay mechanic in Synthesis. Stop talking such crap. The decay mechanic is not fast, but you can't play any sort of normal melee skill and enjoy the content. And incusions are crap to this day. I beat them fine, but I can see how the average player would hate hate them.

"This question also prompted a long discussion, which turned into a conversation about how people acquire specific maps for Atlas completion. Our current thoughts are that we could make this easier, and so we are considering adding an occasional chance for map bosses to drop a map from an adjacent location. If we go ahead with this in 3.7.0, you'll see it in the Patch Notes."

Translation - players are not engaging with bosses anymore except Atlas completion, so we are going to add some incentive to make them. We are not fixing map drops in any other way though, because now we want you to kill bosses again.

"Map bosses generally don't drop a lot of items relative to the rest of the map, but they also usually don't take a lot of time to fight. Some bosses die quickly, and others are more substantial fights. We are going to add extra monsters (that yield item and experience) to the substantial boss fights (during their mitigation phases) to make them worth the time of fighting them more. Examples of maps that have been modified in this way in 3.7.0 are Belfry, Lava Lake, Sunken City and Gardens. We'll keep propagating this to more maps over time."

Hey, Chris - players don't run the bosses because they are not worth the risk-reward. Add some incentives (loot, maps as above) and people will run them. Remove the death penalty (FYI I want it to stay, I am just saying) and people will run every boss. Also, fuck your mitigation phases right in the ass. Repeatedly. Fire the people who are designing immunity phases.

Okay I could go on but this is already too long.

Chris wilson has for sure lost touch and should be barred from being a spokesman for the game in any form. Whenever he does a podcast or interview he has zero fucking clue what he’s talking about and doesnt understand or is even aware of basic game mechanics. We go through the same excuse diatribe into q&a every league.

That said, like a battered woman, ill keep coming back cause im sure it will change this time.

Welp, it took me close to 12 hours to get to maps. I can do less than 10 on an alt but I forgot about the stupid lab stuff you have to redo.

I even skipped the non-skill side quests mostly. I realized about half way through what a huge waste of time Abyss was while leveling. But I cannot resist the breaches.

I died twice. Once in the first zone after town, before I had any gear or leveled skills lol (this is why I never play Mayhem haha) and then once on the Brine King as I was on cruise control and actually got hit by the falling balls. Yeesh.

Love Perandus though. Got 2 Tabulas, one for 164 and another for 104. I bricked the latter with a Vaal, held onto the former to level.

Battered wife is a bit hyperbolic. The game is still by far the best arpg despite the missteps of betrayal and synthesis. They definitely need to return to form though. The arpg market needs some competition.

I love the flashback so far. I am in no hurry and like additional content. Not sure I like my caustic arrow ranger though.

I tried a caustic arrow build and it was awful to play as it just wasn't very fun and felt super slow compared to most builds i've played before. Ended up playing a EH Deadeye and once i'd got a frostferno and a +3 bow it was good fun and really fast at clearing and bossing.

Normal leagues aren't like this right? Where you can run into 2-3 harbingers and an abyss spawning shit at you all at the same time? Cause it's chaotic and fun, what I wish D3 had was that feeling of overwhelming swarms of shit instead of 3-5 mob pack, move another corridor or two, another 3-5 mobs etc.

Legit question. What are the other ARPGs?

D3, POE, and Grim Dawn right? Those are the big three IIRC. I have grim dawn but haven’t played yet. However I’m pretty sure it has a weak end game from what I’ve read.

I haven’t liked a single ranger build in this game. A shame because DH was my fave in D3.

Grim Dawns a bit like Diablo you kinda grind numbers. It's good as a game, it can be pretty challenging at the end game and some of the monsters are difficult on the higher settings. I can see why people cheat in it as some people who played legit when it first came out spent months harvesting items to get specific crafts - it was really really grindy. I don't know about the new expansion but i've played Malmouth and that was pretty good.

There's torchlight but the new one looks crap. T2 is always worth a playthrough, stick synergies mod on for difficulty and end game and you'll be there for ages. It's seriously hard, harder than poe and grim dawn with synergies on the most difficult settings, but not grindy hard, it's hard cause the mobs are ultra difficult and you need to gear right up to even make an attempt at the highest tiers.

Grim Dawn & Titan Quest are essentially the same game in different myths (greek vs... I don't know, dark travel-y?) so if you've played that GD isn't much different except quality of it.

Anyone else playing on PS4?

Wondering how to target ground when using a skill, it just auto targets everything.
