After Wolcen somewhat reignited my desire to play an ARPG, I reinstalled this for the 4th time I think, but once again I can't get past the camera angle and zoom. I really wish I could get use to it because it sounds like such a great game, and has so much content. :(
Well you can wait until PoE "2", the camera seems further away in that. Should be end of the year/next year(beta probably end of the year).

I don't get the whining about taking things out of the game. I mean I get it on reddit, but here? Just run past Cassia or whichever other league content that you don't want to engage with - some other player will love Blight but skip over your favorite instead.

I also think that if a player has a problem with reading up on content or mechanics, and uses that as an excuse to ask for dumbing down to their personal comfort zone, PoE is not the game for them. They are better served with mainstreamed game design from other studios.

What's wrong with the camera angle and zoom? I didn't find it different than other ARPGs.

I can't really pinpoint it now after years of playing, but I remember having that problem. It's a little detail but it was really unnerving for a good while.

Compared to Diablo 3, and most ARPG, it's zoomed in closer to your character, and I'm not sure if it's a byproduct of being zoomed in closer, but it also feels like the angle is slightly more overhead then 3/4 view of other ARPG.

It's not huge to be honest, but it always annoys me a lot for some reason. As I said, I wish I could get past it because the game seems really good.

Pyros Pyros , I saw the POE 2 videos, the camera seems to be much more Diablo like, looks like it's zoomed out a bit more.

Mind you if I had started on POE instead of Diablo, I'd probably find the Diablo camera weird and the POE one "normal". :)

I agree that most league mechanics going core can just be skipped without much trouble. However, Syndicate and Incursion specifically take significant amounts of time and Syndicate is unskippable and rippy in tier 16. Add to that the fact that gaining Syndicate or Incursion missions actively takes away from Delve, Zana, and Bestiary missions and you have poorly implemented and time consuming content.

This could be solved if they made master missions tradeable like beasts; however, they have not and still continue to add more bloat. At some point they need a quality of life only league to just clean all this shit up.

That I can agree with, but not at the expense of gutting out entire leagues. I wish scarabs had been made a more general item that allows the player the flexibility they are asking for, instead of staying tied to a league on their own. The temple needs an overhaul because it's not up to par with other leagues, etc.

Assuming the devs do their homework, though, it does not need to take away from your wanted missions. They should be saying "we want players to get x zana missions per number of maps" and balance from there. If there are too many leagues types, a boss kill can just have an appropriate chance to give more than one mission, so the individual masters keeps their expected share. God knows I have enough spare missions for half the masters that I won't ever use, Alva first among them. A dev goal should be that across all players, master usage is somewhat similar, because their value is similar. They have the data on that, they just need to use it to change underused masters. Maps from the temple could come magic/rare with a temple affix that allows items from that map to drop with the temple mods, for example.

Don't worry buddy, you can play the new Hollow Palm build and not have to buy gloves or weapons, just punch stuff real good.
I love a good gimmick that they’ll completely ignore. Does anyone even play with lancing steel?

I hate unveiling. But I don’t know if I’d consider the game bloated. I’d have probably dropped off some of the older stuff that’s getting refined like breach.

Still the best endgame around.

As to zoom, I kinda get what he’s saying. I always felt characters in PoE looked bigger. But I like it. The game just looks good for its age.

I mean realistically a lot of this shit is going away by next year. While they're keeping stuff for 4.0 I expect massive reworks in a lot of these systems and any of the weaker systems will be removed or combined with others somehow. I expect a bunch of the content will be relegated to optional content you can do if you want, with keys you can use to spawn the old shit(abyss/breach/blight/metamorph for example really don't need to constantly be spawning everywhere and the bosses can simply be available via keying).

They do need to clean up stuff some I think, there's just too many random encounters and a lot feel same-ish, just click a thing or walk on a thing and monsters spawn and you kill them for terrible rewards and some sort of unique currency shit that you might never end up using(I pickup breach shards every league but I did the bosses only once for the achievement for example, I just sell them or don't bother for the cheaper ones). It's just not very interesting. And there's way too many different types.

Syndicate at least, while confusing as fuck, is fairly engaging, you get a variety of encounters and then you interact with your board, move stuff around, make them line up in a certain way, spawn bosses you yourself put there and so on. It's far from perfect, rewards are atrociously unbalanced so I'm sure 90% of the endgame player choose the same shit and it's terribly explained or put together, but I think overall it's an interesting bit of content with some lore aspects and stuff like that.

Delve is similar, it's its own side content stuff with a lot of things, so I think it's interesting to keep.

Temple on the other hand is meh although it's getting changed so we'll see but it needs a boost to make it a major mechanic. Beasts while nice in terms of playing really don't add much and are basically the equivalent of a minor league like metamorph at this point, so they should probably just be downgraded.

I think Synthesis if it hadn't been complete dogshit would have been a lot better as a major league mechanic, although it'd need a shit ton of reworks, but there's a lot of lost lore and content from that.

I decided to at least try to wrap up the acts last night before Metamorph leagues end.

I got trolled with one of these in Act 9.

I've never played animate weapon. Is there anything that prevents you from accidentally animating your drops-as-identified-due-awakened-bonus Kingmaker or Cospri's Malice?

Pretty much my take. I want the endgame to give me options and choices. That's one of the strengths this game has for me, unlike something like D3. It's fine if I let some of those opportunities pass, the point is having those options in the first place. At this point, the worst league mechanic that actually opens up encounters (so not boxes, exiles, etc) is breach. You don't even get most of the shards or stones from actual breach content, you get them from syndicate or legion.

I hated Synthesis at first, and it would have needed a major revamp to go core, but during the last two weeks it kinda clicked with me, and I would not have had a problem with it going core at all.

How hard is the 36 achievements?

Could I finish it still in this league? 20 hrs or 100 hrs etc

It's doable but requires a bunch of playing and at this point it might be hard to get people to help with some of the stuff or finding affordable gear and stuff cause the prices are aligning to standard.

I wanna say it's around 30-50hours depending on how focused you are on it, but that assumes fairly efficient play. If you have someone feeding you money though it wouldn't be that bad probably, a bunch of the challenges can be skipped with paying someone or buying stuff.

The 4 you'd likely drop are Endgame challenges, Map bosses and then 2 out of Sirius conditionally(can potentially buy but might be hard this late to find someone), Encounters VI(easy with money but very expensive), Rewards from metamorph(pretty easy over time but RNG gated), Encounters V(easy over time but can be expensive/annyoing if you want to do it quickly since you need Zana levels to unlock the good mods or buy a lot of scarabs), Deadly encounters(easy if you find someone selling kills, but Abaxoth is RNG gated and it's fairly expensive) and Conqueror conditionally(doable solo but some can be annoying and require a decent bossing build, best done on the lowest tier of conqueror).

If you find someone to give you 30exalts or something though you could probably clear most of that shit fairly easily in ~20-25hours as long as you can find people selling the stuff though.

I’ve been dicking around on various skills the past week. It’s pretty dead. I’ve mostly been able to reuse a lot of gear to make builds, but when I’ve needed a piece or two it’s marked up heavily and the pickings are very slim

If anyone is looking to play before next patch I've got gear and like 20ex or something I don't need anymore. I'll never play standard so it's all worthless at this point.

It's mostly all melee gear, savior, -phys helms, life recovery chests etc.

Lol, no meta portal for me then. Guess I'll buy some. Will apparently be farming those going forward since I love the random portal thing they are doing

Man I'll take it. Got a super late start and am still going, might do one more toon.

I'm not feeling the upcoming league at all. Same buggy bloated mess as every other league. I'd really like to see their MAU. I bet it's showing some trends of decline. 4.0 is GGG's only hope. Clean start, proper trading, no bloat. I'm convinced that they will do something drastic to the trade system and it will be one of their biggest selling points. If trading is not changed, the game is doomed. The game is gonna be like 10 years old when 4.0 is released. You can't hide behind some manifesto forever.
