Yeah, without exclusives consoles aren't really that big of a deal profit-wise. Hardware in all different markets has never been a huge money-maker, its always the accessories. Power tools are like that, Home Depot only makes a couple bucks off of them, but all the drill bits are on like a 200% mark-up.
Games are the same thing. Its blatantly obvious Nintendo makes retarded income on replacement Wii controllers and Switch joy-cons. Xbox/PS controllers are no doubt more profitable.
I don't think Microsoft has to worry about console profit too much if they're making good controller profit. If you look at most PC games, the default design for gamepads is the Xbox scheme. That's basically subliminal marketing.

I think the PS5 was the most hyped system to me in a long time. Not sure if it was a sad combination of it being hard to find because of the pandemic and being stuck in the house so I was yearning for something new.
Turned out that I think I found one for $700ish during the height of the shortage, ended up playing less than 5 games...and it sitting in the closet for the past 2 years.

I got one at a 24 hour Walmart. Loved it for Horizon Zero Dawn. I gave up on Spider Man Mike Morales because the controls were too complicated for me. Plus, it felt like I was part of some story-line that was happening without me. I bought The Last of Us but it bummed me out more than I enjoyed playing it. Hogwart's Legacy was okay, but inconsistent. That game felt like it was broken uop and farmed out to too many teams without enough vision or oversight.
I use the old switch console for party games.
I don't think it's the console or Sony's fault. It's like many of the discussions we have here. Culture has changed. Can't have a cool fun game that might offend people. No foul in killing "dead" people. Plus the marketplace wants massive multiplayer games that people will pay a monthly fee for, not a pay-and-play (eg., you own the game now) structure.
I think my last favorite game was Alien Isolation. PS5 games are expensive and they like (like Microsoft) to have intellectual ownership of the gaming rights, so they don't end up cross-pollinating to other platforms until they are stale in the market (if at all).
