Ok apparently i have to get some batteries because my tv remote is dead, haven't used it since I canceled Netflix 2 years ago or so.

In the meantime what are the best games to play on ps+? I can download any games in the library and play forever, right?

Should I just get the premium tier or is there a decent catalog of games on the poor man tier?

And is there any must have games not on ps+ I need to get that justify the 80 bucks for the disc drive and what, 70 for the disc?
You can buy any game digitally in the psn so unless you want physical games you can skip it.

I would get the top level PS+ plan for now. Grab your tablet, use opencritic, and figure out what is worth playing based on when it's leaving PS+. The monthly games you get to keep and play forever, provided you have a PS+ subscription (even the lowest level works) - but the PS+ game catalog, things ebb and flow there. The first party games seem to stay there indefinitely. You can stream them (if your connection is good enough) or download and play from hdd.

Discs are only needed if you're buying used games, or buy a ton of games and want to resell them after you're done with them. The PS store has everything in it, plus subscription or not. You can buy/keep things there forever* (* at some point there will likely be some crazyness in the future with all of these digital services)

There's absolutely no reason to spend an additional $25 for Premium on top of the already crazy $135 for Extra unless there's a bunch of really old games on the cloud streaming list that you're just dying to play. Extra has everything that someone who's been out of the console game for a long time needs.

A couple weeks ago it would have been a good idea since both Premium and Extra were on sale for $99, but Sony's subscription sales are so rare that you probably won't see another one until summer and possibly all the way to Black Friday.

Which ps5 games are must plays?
(in no particular order)

Sony games
God of War
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Ghost of Tsushima
Spider-Man
The Last of Us
Uncharted series (this is the only Sony IP that's worth playing past the first game... the ones above this you should just pretend the sequels never existed)
Bloodborne (just be aware that even on PS5 Pro it runs the same as it did on a PS4 and only the load times will be improved, reason #569438 that Sony are the biggest assholes in the games industry)
Demon's Souls
Days Gone (PS5 remaster is coming in April, but it won't be added to Extra for a long time and knowing Sony they'll try to "fix" the "problematic" parts of the game ruining it in the process... PS4 version is already great on PS5 anyway)
Returnal

Third party games that are on PS+ Extra
Control
Death Stranding
Guardian's of the Galaxy
Remnant II
Prey
Jedi Survivor

There's a bunch more good games on there but it mostly depends on what genres you're interested in.

Demons souls remake is one of the best visual and auditory showcases of the PS5 hardware along with Astros playroom (free) and astrobot.

Bloodborne is possibly the best PS4 exclusive, but as said it's locked to 30fps and it is very jarring.. but it's one of the best Fromsoft games ever made.

Astro bot is incredible. I wasn't even interested until I heard people say their kids liked it.

Daughter just turned 6 and plays silly ipad games.

Bought it just to see if she would game with daddy. Everynight now, as soon as she gets home, she runs upstairs to get daddy to play the " alien game ".

Game has given me quality time with my daugher...10/10 game for me.

If she’s close to 7 she may be able to play most of it. Our oldest was 6 when it came out but turned 7 in January and he’s pretty much done the whole game with the exception of the challenge levels. He asked for help at the start but I encouraged him to play through and give it a shot until he beats it. Sometimes works sometimes doesn’t. Was a great game.

She just turned 6. When we first got it, she couldnt make it past the first jump on the first board. Fast forward about a month later, and she can navigate Astrobot through the entire 1st level, as well as she can get from the start to finish on the construction level.

Shes made huge strides in short time.

Instead of having mama and daughter caught up in ipads and phones, my loft is full of laughing and giggling non stop with the family.

This game has given us something nothing else has, and I am very appreciate of it.

Honestly my advice is to just try out a bunch of different stuff you can get with your subscription if you pick up Plus Extra or Premium. No harm in just downloading whatever grabs your interest.

When it comes to games I would always recommend simply pursuing your own interests. If you try to stick close to what other people like you will have a bad time. There is no shortage of games the internet seems to be in love with that do nothing for me, and lots of stuff I enjoy related to things I am naturally interested in that hardly gets talked out. Especially given how you haven't been gaming for a while. I would recommend simply thinking of the type of stuff you enjoy, seeing what's available that appeals to it, maybe watch a gameplay youtube video to see if it looks like it would be fun for you.

Critics are a total mess these days, whole scene has been taken over by politics and activism so I would just ignore their noise. User reviews can be unreliable as well, too much astroturfing and fanboyism that can dictate the high praise. That said if everyone is shitting on a game there might be something to that.

God of War - Got it
Horizon: Zero Dawn - Not free on PS+
Ghost of Tsushima - beat it on PC/Steam
Spider-Man - do you mean Spiderman 1, Spiderman 2, or Spiderman: Miles Morales? Miles Morales is free and i got it
The Last of Us - ill look didnt see it
Uncharted series - Which game would you recommend to start with? I see drake's collection or something and a few other obvious sequels/addons on PS+, I think Uncharted 4 is the default game on PS+
Bloodborne - This is dark souls like? i can give them a shot but I was bad at these on PC and i'm sure ill be worse now
Demon's Souls - Same as above
Days Gone - didn't see it but wasn't really looking, will try again
Returnal - Got it

Third party games that are on PS+ Extra
Control - Got it
Death Stranding - Isn't this the walking simulator game? i'll give it a shot i guess
Guardian's of the Galaxy - got it
Remnant II - Got it
Prey -didn't see it
Jedi Survivor - Got it
eh my questions/comments ended up in your quote hopefully you can see and respond. Any of the ones that aren't free on PS+, are they good enough to buy? Knowing I have a backlog of games to get through? I started playing God of War and Miles Morales spiderman got through the introduction missions for both, kinda got option paralysis right now have too many choices on what to play just testing them all out to see how much I like them. Also grabbed one of the assassin's creeds ( i think Valhalla) and Division 2 and a couple more games. got like 10 games downloaded so far

Weird, I could have sworn Horizon: Zero Dawn was on Extra, but I guess it was only ever Forbidden West that got added (and removed last fall). The first three Uncharted games are only available with Premium, which is also strange since the Premium library is typically only PS1/2/3 games and not PS4 stuff. I guess that's something new they started doing, because I see that Prey is now only available at that tier as well. Definitely don't pay for Prey on PS5; if you're interested in it it's on sale for like $8 (including the excellent Mooncrash DLC) on Steam.

I wouldn't play Miles Morales before Spider-Man (2018). Supposedly you can upgrade the PS+ Extra version of Miles to the ultimate edition, which includes Spider-Man Remastered. It's $20, but still much cheaper than buying it normally. And I wouldn't touch Spider-Man 2 at all, it's the type of woke garbage that is all Sony puts out these days.

Last of Us Part 1 for PS5 is definitely part of the Extra library. Part 2 is only on Premium, but it's the single worst game ever made so you're missing absolutely nothing there.

Days Gone PS4 is on Extra too, but the upcoming PS5 remaster will not be on there. Like I said before though, the PS5 back-compatibility upgrade is already really good and runs at 4K (checkerboard) and 60 fps.

As for Stellar Blade, it's not on PS+ and probably won't be for a very long time. It's worth buying, but if you have a PC that can handle it I would wait for it to release on Steam in a few months.

Trying to add even more games to your list will further compound your analysis paralysis ans you will end up not playing any of them.

Take it one at a time, there are over 1000+ hours in those games listed above to enjoy.

Sylas Sylas I doubt Stellar Blade will get to PS+ in a timely manner as the game is still popular and has a good collab/dlc coming out in June, while also releasing for PC. If you have a PC, and depending on its quality, you could wait and play it on Steam (by quality, I would say something stronger than a PS5 Pro, so like a 4060ti+). If not, follow it or wishlist it on PS5 and wait til you've played some of the other games Vorph mentioned.

As for the game itself, I am heavily biased in favor of it, so my opinion might not be the best: it is a 100% buy.

If you have a backlog, then just play those. Not much sense piling more things onto it that you aren't going to play either, unless you have money to set on fire or something.

Pick out a bunch of things you'd like to play from said backlog, make a list, put them in groups, start playing them.

Like right now I've got Pirate Yakuza / The Thing as my two in-progress games that I want to knock out, then after that I'm taking on the Torna DLC (Xenoblade 2) and Metal Gear Solid 2 (been wanting a replay of it for years, it's the only MGS that I never finished). Then Xenoblade 3, Monster Hunter World, and maybe FF7 Rebirth plat. Dividing games into groups of 2 or 3 at a time has helped me get through my pile without getting too off-track or feeling boxed-in on one particular thing at a time.

As for your questions, the good enough to buy ones are Horizon, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls. However if you didn't like Dark Souls on PC, not sure you'll like the latter two. They're things you really need to focus on and "get to know" in order to get the most out of them. Like Demon's Souls can be either easy or really hard depending on whether you know what you're doing or not. Quite frankly, Elden Ring is superior to both of them (AND the most beginner-friendly by a mile) but it's also the biggest time-commitment, be ready to lose 200 hours to that beast of a game and then not really feel like playing any of your inferior other games anymore after it's over. Maybe just get Horizon...if you're going to actually play it any time soon. It's very good.

Hrm there is a 2 hour trial for stellar blade I'm gonna give it a go.

My hesitation for the dark soul games is that I wasn't very good at them on PC. I should of used a controller but oh well. Now that I can't really pc game much anymore I could give them a try but with my condition I doubt I'll be any better on a controller
