Seems like both threads you guys all hate your brand of consoles, so coming from someone who hasn't owned a console since Sega Genesis, which would you guys recommend Xbox or ps5?
PS5 without a doubt.

I owned them all and have both Xbox gamepass ultimate and PS plus extra whatever the big dick one is. I still do like PC gamepass but I got butthurt with the way microsoft let Xbox go.

Ok so ps5 seems to be the consensus. So you guys just subscribe to the ps pass or whatever it'd called? Do you have to buy games too or is thst a large enough catalog/variety of new titles?

I have the Premium thing, and there are quite a few of the best PS games available there, enough to keep you busy for awhile.

PS+ doesn't compare to gamepass at all if that's what you'd compare it to. It's usually older games (except lol veilguard). They also raised the prices within the last year.

I think PS5 is the better console, but the value isn't quite where I'd like to see it anymore.

Yeah, especially if you are starting from scratch. There are a lot of good games that you can download from Plus immediately. Don’t buy many games until you assess your backlog there. I think you can look at “leaving soon” to see what to play first.

People shit talk PS Plus and while it doesn't have as many games or as recent games as game pass if you haven't played consoles in forever there's going to be more games available that are good than you'll ever have time to play.

I think the major difference between PS5 and Xbox is that if you have a decent PC ( which Im assuming most do here ), then you can play a mass majority of titles on your PC from Game Pass already. This should negate needing an Xbox.

Ok so im seeing 3 versions of the ps5.

Slim is 1tb and comes with a disc drive (can play physical dics) 449.

Digital edition does not have a disc drive (online only or buy disc drive attachment), 1 tb storage, but it's 499??

Pro is 2tb storage, no disc drive, 699???

There has to be other differences than just storage space and inclusion of a disc drive right? I mean wtf if not.

I'm looking at ps+ or whatever I'm sure there's a massive library I'll probably not need to buy any physical disc's, unless maybe there is some must have game like Spiderman or something that isn't on the subscription, basically I'd like to have the option to play physical disc's but if the slim is some base model that's shitty and can't play high resolution or whatever I don't want to buy it just because it comes with the disc drive

I got the PS five Pro and bought a disc drive. But yeah, you don’t need to have a disk drive on the pro if you are buying digital. The difference was a lot of games can be upgraded in 4K 60 or 120 frame whereas on the regular PS5 they’re stuck at 30 and sometimes 1440p

Ok but is the digital version just a pro with 1tb HD vs 2tb of the pro? I can't imagine it being a 200 dollar difference for just the HD, but also can't imagine it being just a slim but losing a HD and costing 50 more than a slim? Are there 3 tiers of technical specs?

I paid more than $200 for an additional drive for my PS5... you're coming out ahead if you get the pro at this point, especially as your first PS5 series thing.

For me, I still haven't got the pro, but I could be convinced if my kid wants to take the existing PS5 to college. She didn't this year, but may next year.

If you want a disc drive, I think it's $80.

Just get the pro it has 2TB already which is more than enough for you.
I got the disc drive because I still will go to GameStop. A lot of good deals if you go disc sometimes.

I wouldn't worry about the 1 TB vs 2 TB too much. They made it super easy to install an NVME drive on the PS5.

You can get a 2TB Samsung 990 EVO for like $120 now, if you end up needing more storage.

Personally I'd go with the disc drive, if you want to use it to watch Ultra 4k blu-rays or play borrowed/used games. But you can always add the disc drive later as well.

I have zero regrets on getting the Pro, but I also traded in my stock PS5. I will say every game I own on PS5 which got a Pro upgrade has been great. So, I would recommend getting the Pro as its more future proof and will apparently get an upgrade in '26 to have FSR4 integrated into their PSSR upscaler.

No one is answering you directly.

Digital is the base PS5, pro has increased performance. It's the midlife kicker for PS5.

Bruh I had someone in the Xbox thread try to tell me off for recommending a PS5, they even said PS+ having free monthly games is a new development lol

Some people just say the stupidest shit and try to trash the competition

Ok apparently i have to get some batteries because my tv remote is dead, haven't used it since I canceled Netflix 2 years ago or so.

In the meantime what are the best games to play on ps+? I can download any games in the library and play forever, right?

Should I just get the premium tier or is there a decent catalog of games on the poor man tier?

And is there any must have games not on ps+ I need to get that justify the 80 bucks for the disc drive and what, 70 for the disc?
