V but I give Beltran a pass because the writers basically forgot he existed for five seasons.
Voyager is the oddity in that the last season may have been one of the worst of the series. Pretty much the entire last season was depressing hopeless shit, outside of the Finale and the Chekotay/Seven shipper episode. The entire blob aliens dying off and leaving no living memory of their experiences before melting was a metaphor for that entire season. The issue with that show is that the Doctor and Seven were so much better characters (and acted) than everyone else it was torture any time they did a story with other cast members to keep the actor happy. Beltran and Mulgrew were really cunty about it, but I give Beltran a pass because the writers basically forgot he existed for five seasons.
It also didn't help that the supposed Indian expert that they used to create Chakotay was a fraud.
Yeah Beltran himself was somewhat pissed about that. He mostly writes and directs now. I always liked him, but then I really liked his debut role in Night of the Comet and it was nice having a first officer who had personal flaws and wasn't just trying to fuck everything that moved. But once Seven was on the series, the writers completely gave up on him. Problem is, despite being eye candy Ryan can actually act and Robert Picardo is amazingly great, so no fucking way would I want to write for the other lumps if I am working on that show. I mean, aside from Mulgrew (and Beltran doing directing work) none of the rest of that shitshow ever did anything else after it ended. Fucking Garret Wang is still trying to drum up interest in a Voyager movie LOL.
God that episode was fucking awful. I hated the Kes character and kept hoping she'd die in a horrible transporter accident, leaving Neelix to commit ritual suicide by ejecting himself out into space.
Star Trek: Voyager” actress Jennifer Lien was arrested and has been in custody for two weeks after allegedly exposing herself in front of several children, Roane County police confirm.
The concept of Kes's character was very intriguing. With a 7 year lifespan it was set up perfectly for the audience to see a character move through all the various stages of life over the course of the series.
The actual writers, however, never figured out what the hell they wanted to do with the character and she just ended up written into a very dull corner.
