It is amazing and it does get better with each subsequent viewing. Every time I watched it in the last week or so (4 times) I am able to come across yet another layer of Scott's philosophical statement.

Even that Weyland thing that I posted in the previous post didn't come to me until the second viewing.

I had issues with the movie, but I agree with Araysar in general on this. The internet hate train jumped on this movie like crazy because its become the "in" think to do lately. It had its flaws, but the original was hardly perfect, either. If you want to shaw this thread because it stirs up a rage shitstorm, then sure. But I do not think Araysar is trolling in this case.

Yeah, its just the "in" thing to do. None of us are capable of independent opinions. I didn't walk out of the theater and wish I had my money back, only once I got home and FoH told me what to think. Get lost. And TDKR was a big budget shiny shitpile as well.

There is genuinely disliking a film. Then there is hopping on the hate bandwagon because ragging on something like some emo hipster is the in thing to do. Perhaps you are in the former category, but there are certainly more people in the latter (this board not withstanding) and I think you would agree that just generally hating on popular things in entertainment is something a large chunk of people do to fit in or pass the time. Just take a look at any public discussion of music on the internet.

The question I have to ask is, was this movie even in the same ballpark of bad as the Phantom Menace? Because a lot of you are bagging on it like it was worse than that move, which I think is an argument no rational person can make.

The people inPrometheusacted about the same as Liam Neeson and his daughter in Taken 2. I was annoyed with them, and I'm annoyed with the characters inPrometheus, regardless of them being world-class scientists in their field. Who throws a fucking grenade across rooftops in Turkey just to help her dad pinpoint her location (don't get me started on Taken 2)? Someone that would take their helmet off on an alien world, and pet an alien snake, and get lost in a structure they them self were mapping, that's who. It was stupid in Taken 2, and it is stupid inPrometheus, and even though one is meant to be a throw-away action movie, it still ruined both of them. Making characters do incredibly stupid things just to further the plot is the sign of terrible writing, and both movies had it.

That being said, everything else aboutPrometheuswas beautiful. The story was just Taken 2 levels of awful.

The whole movie went over Sean's head because he doesnt understand the purpose of existence beyond collecting a monthly disability check, playing video games and being fat. Maybe if the movie was about Weyland funding a trillion dollar mission to a moon 35 light years away to find a rare collector's edition of Zelda he would understand.

By the same logic 80% of Star Trek episodes would never exist. If every action in sci-fi was predicated on doing something logical and rational 100% of the time, that would pretty much eliminate every plot device in the science fiction genre. But you guys will sit around and stroke yourself off to the DS9/Dominion wars for pages regardless of how implausible and contrived they are but then balk atPrometheusbecause one guy got lost somewhere or another took off his helmet.
