Had a few hours to kill and the house to myself and decided to rewatch Fury on Netflix. Fuck what a good film. 4th or 5th time I have watched and it's just as good as the first. Killing Nazis just doesn't get old.

Talk to me
I don't watch a lot of horror but this one was very well done and worth the watch. Bunch of teenagers invite spirits into themselves because it is fun apparently...

Had a bunch of stuff on in the background while grinding through some late-night work:

The Substance - I actually really like this. Agree that it was a tad too long, but it was pretty good horror scifi. 7/10
Infinity Pool - Also really liked this one. Really cool concept. Execution was a little disjointed for me but not enough to ruin the movie. 7/10
Barbarian - Pretty good horror, worth a watch for sure. 7/10
Stupid Games - Terrible budget "horror" movie with some girls trying to get back and some guy. No idea really, it was bad. 4/10
Slingshot - The Other Affleck, Lawrence Fishbourne, SciFi. Pretty paint by numbers but I didn't hate it. 6/10

Something else I'm forgetting that was good but also pretty out there in the same way Infinity Pool and The Substance was. Wife and I are about an hour and a half into Caddo Lake and I'm really really enjoying it.

I can't remember if I've posted this here yet. My favorite Steve Martin movie:

Not sure if we have a thread on this or not, but it is surprisingly good. Hard to recommend to a broad audience, though. If you enjoy indie movies you should enjoy this one. This is an example of why I click on so many random crap looking things to watch with no knowledge of what they are, just to be surprised every once in a while.

The soundtrack / score is amazing. Very oppressive, expressive, sometimes over the top. It worked well with the suspense of the movie. The dialogue mix was hit or miss. Some dialogue was hard to hear, almost like a mic wasn’t working and they had to use a secondary source.

Definitely not for everyone, but it worked for me and my like of quiet, brooding, low budget, indie film.

The daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet made a film about young women being taken to a private island where they are drugged with a memory loss agent and victimized night after night. It's not quite as dark as I would like and it is occasionally comedic in a way that I think hurts the picture but it's pretty good. In the wake of Diddy I was looking for some "our fictional story might not be all that fictional" hints and didn't really see anything concrete aside from the basic themes.

The very, very ending (last 90 seconds or so) I wasn't on board with but it doesn't tank the film or anything. Watched at home it's a solid B.

Thought it was pretty good as well. Didnt expect the twist ending at all. Especially from todays Hollywood..

Abigail - 4/10
This movie has everything except good writing and acting. It's obvious it's a vampire movie so I'll start there. I don't know why they bothered with build up since there's a vampire on the ad image.
The house is atmospheric and it's competently directed. The special effects are fine, stupid, but fine. That's about all the positives. The writng made my brain hurt. Actors with accents occasionally is the norm.

The ending... is so dumb. Like Twilight dumb.

There's really not much else to say.
No nudity.

Finished this tonight and we really enjoyed it. The animal personalities were pretty good / funny especially the opossum. Animation was fine. The story was just a good straightforward heartfelt thing and it played out simply enough for our 6 year old to understand. There was more subtle adult humor and themes that worked for us as parents. Compared to some of the other recent animated movies it was nice to watch one that felt like it was trying and not just made to preach.

unknowingly ended up watching 2 anthony ramos movies this week , who i really don't care for

twisters, 3/10, utter stupidity

distant or long distance, 6/10, scifi, came out this year but was filmed in 2020 so has a very small cast, like 6. even with it being 95% ramos thought it was ok little story. i really like scifi so ymmv.

what is crazy, the trailer is less than a min long, and shows whole movie, even the ending

This was pretty bad especially coming off watching Wild Robot. The whole movie felt empty and generic somehow. Animation was also bland. The backgrounds lacked any shadow detail and so scenes looked odd. This whole flat unmoving backdrop. Maybe it was all just static. Not sure, something felt off and it wasn’t great. There’s a big rock / mountain thing at the end they’re running around on and you can’t tell if the rock is boulders or flat or there’s any depth.

Story was meh. It felt like a world things happened in and not a lot of effort in building up this kingdom / world and what or why. It being about divorce at the end was kind of lulzy and I don’t think the kids at Thanksgiving really got it.

Wouldn’t watch again. If the animation was better and the whole thing cleaned up a bit maybe. Otherwise it felt like a cheap Chinese animation story they paid some Hollywood actors to voice for a buck.

Rewatched "The King" with Timothee Chalomet and Sparkly Vampire Guy. Really solid tale of Henry V and Agincourt. I think Pattinson ends up being a DiCaprio type of actor. Starts out as some cute kid and then shows everyone what a standout actor he truly is and gets roles until he doesn't want to act any more. 8.5/10

Project Wolf Hunting - 6.5/10.
A version of the multiple groups of very bad guys that start killing each other. This time it's on a boat with ultraviolence and mega amounts of blood. Then a big bad shows up.

It's a good casual watch, it's set up for a second movie perfectly. I actually recommend it if you like this genre at all. It's pretty much the perfect, the wife went to bed, i want to have a drink and some nachos and watch something she'd never watch movie.

No nudity worth mentioning
