That is a thing you know...ITT Furry says we can power spaceships with very strong flashlights.
BAE invests in space engine firm Reaction Engines - BBC NewsBAE Systems has bought a 20% stake in a company developing a radical engine that could propel aircraft into space. BAE is paying ?20.6m for the stake in Reaction Engines, which is developing a hybrid rocket/jet engine called Sabre.
Reaction says the technology would allow the launch of satellites into space at a fraction of the current cost and allow passengers to fly anywhere in the world in four hours... The firms hope to have a ground-based test engine working by the end of this decade and begin unmanned test flights by 2025.
DARPA to Begin Testing Satellite-Launching Fighter Jet This Yearhaven't seen anything about an actual test though, but I haven't looked too hard. Also the F-15 is the only aircraft to ever shoot down a satellite.More engine tech

What thev've designed, built and tested so far has been verified by the European Space Agency and the U.S. air force, so it seems legit. Wikipedia link on the technology behind it:

Air-launched rockets have been going on for a while (see Pegasushttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus_(rocket) , which was partly designed by Burt Rutan.) although they use specially modified aircraft rather than standard jet fighters.DARPA to Begin Testing Satellite-Launching Fighter Jet This Yearhaven't seen anything about an actual test though, but I haven't looked too hard. Just because I see the mathematical and scientific justification and potential behind EM drive as being far more logical than fields as QE doesn't mean I won't hold it to the same, and perhaps even higher standards of verification. Observation trumps the desires of scientifically minded people ALWAYS.What an amazing post.
