The Delft researchers were able to entangle two electrons separated by a distance of 1.3 kilometers, slightly less than a mile, and then share information between them. Physicists use the term "entanglement" to refer to pairs of particles that are generated in such a way that they cannot be described independently. The scientists placed two diamonds on opposite sides of the Delft University campus, 1.3 kilometers apart.

Each diamond contained a tiny trap for single electrons, which have a magnetic property called a "spin." Pulses of microwave and laser energy are then used to entangle and measure the "spin" of the electrons.

so, yes, they are using them to send information like morse code. This shit could change everything if the energy cost is low enough.

Wouldn't the entanglement itself be information? My little box turned on, someone's entangling it. That means X. Oh my other box went on. They must mean XY, not X. Oh, I have ten trillion of these boxes, and the combinations mean _______.
Not sure what you mean by your little box turning on. But you won't know your entangled particle has been measured on the other end unless the person tells you, so there's no real communication going on.

Well isn't that where the reality aspect comes in? If that part isn't upheld then you could never assume that the Qubits had a condition within classical mechanics? I guess then you can see and measure entanglement but since QM deals in probability structures, you cannot really efficiently send 'information' without other communication between the two sites because you could never tell whether it was 'random' within statistically normal parameters or intended. Not to say there isn't perhaps some way around that with determinism built into an apparatus.

I don't think they're sending any information at all. I think what they're showing is that entanglement is not a "local" phenomenon. They're moving to defining a boundary to it, or moving to showing it to be unbounded. Definitively, that is. They're testing the math.

Which is probably important for some reason or another. I think because some smart dude named Bell said that if it exists it must be bounded?

Help. I'm drowning, squirtle.

I bothered to read a bit of the paper, since they published that fecal matter in nature. They claim to have closed loopholes related to selection bias and fair sampling, yet blatantly state that they excluded all the results that disagreed with them because they weren't properly entangled. On top of that, they use light emission in fiber optic to set up their entanglement. All they have done is combined that level of filtering with the filtering of using the electron to choose favorable results. Additionally, they don't even properly meet the warrants of bells equation to begin with. When did this garbage become science? Quantum entanglement has to be the biggest scam.

maybe all of theoretical physics is just the 1984-esque government releasing false information as a way to brainwash rational people into believing themselves to be dumb.

or maybe quantum entanglement legitimately exists and the universe is just that fucking weird.

i honestly don't even know which of those two possibilities is more likely.

Either every major physicist who is working in the field, dedicated their lives to the research, spent thousands of hours studying the most challenging subjects in mathematics and the sciences at the post graduate level for decades of their lives are fraudulent liars, or the guy who lives in a trailer park and likes having sex with care bears is.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me honestly.

Quantum entanglement isn't all of physics, its not even all theoretical physics. I have time and time again said that theoretical physics has brillant people doing brilliant things. Take the discovery of the higgs boson, now THAT is science. This regurgitated pile of shit doesn't even deserve recognition. Who the fuck eliminates sets of data cause they feel it disagrees with them? fair sampling loophole is closed boys, we just ignore the shit we don't like!! SCIENCE!!

On the flip side, I can believe our SJW colleges produces kids of this caliber now adays.

At least now we know Furry still doesn't understand these things even when he does read them.

Did you guys know comets [can] contain organic compounds like sugar and alcohol? I sure didn't, but this article suggests that it's not exactly a secret:

In unexpected discovery, comet contains alcohol, sugar - Yahoo News India

I saw on Cosmos that there's a theory that life can be seeded between planets by huge asteroid impacts that launch debris into space. I would think that the debris' trajectory would preclude it from establishing an orbit around the original planet though, right? (If you haven't seen the show, apparently there are microorganisms that can survive in a vacuum - and reentry through an atmosphere - that resuscitates on contact with water.)

Yes, organic just means carbon based. Organic chemistry is the chemistry of the carbon atom. There are clouds of alcohol in space, for instance, because an alcohol is just a carbon heavy molecule with OH functional groups attached to it.

The probe that landed on that comet ealier this year detected all sorts of organic polymers. The fact that organic compounds can exist in such a broad variety of circumstances is one of the strongest arguments for the wide spread proliferation of life in the universe.

Organic is all good but they should also be free range and grass fed gas clouds in space!

sometimes i wonder if some comets and asteroids are just the result of an alien mothership emptying out their latrines.

what if life on earth only started because a giant ball of frozen alien shit crashed on our planet and the bacteria contained within started evolving.

I think we came from Venus. We got rokkit tech, gashoused the entire planet on accident, ran to earf in a few lifeboats (which was an iceball at the time), lost our civilization, and crawled out of our ashes.

Mars next.

Cycle of life. Aweemoway.
